It's amazing that the years and years of wrestling training is so easily dismissed.

Tim Sylvia had years of combat training before his UFC career. He was involved in Karate since he was a kid and started wrestling in high school. He also took up boxing training right before he started MMA.

 We all did karate as kids and a little high school wrestling, Bob N Weave. Tim was a common man, working blue collar jobs including bouncing until he saw an MMA fight on tv, contacted Marcus Davis to help him out and after a year of training in MMA, went out and started eating guys up.
Matt Hughes called him a fat sack of sh*t when Tim approached him. Miletich gave him a chance because of his size and trained him further. In terms of athletic ability, Tim was nothing close to an athlete. Lumbering motherf*cker couldn't walk straight. Most of his fights ended with punches thanks to his size. He had pretty good hands for an MMA fighter, better than average.

So what if he was a blue collar guy working jobs before fighting???? Most professional fighters do. He was training and fighting prior to "seeing it on TV". Don't rely on Wikipedia for your info, much of it is BS.

I was thinking the same thing. Brock Lesnar's wrestling training goes more than a decade long. Yet no one acts like it means anything. :notallthere:
