Steve Bunce: Max Kellerman is an idiot

You know who else is a complete boxing nut? Double L. That means fuck all.

I'm much more knowledgable on the current world championship level boxing scene than he is.

that makes it even worse, all of the cheesy historical references

they should have added something like:

"yo! you step to me I'm-a be like "let's do dis!
then I break yo jaw like my name Ted "kid" Lewis"

 

Doubt it very much but hey whatever.
My point was that outside of his brash personality, he has reported on many of the big British and European fights in plenty of boxing mags and a few national dailies going back to the early nineties, late eighties as my memory has it. Regardless of his take on things, the fact that he was writing about it when kellerman was still trading vhs tapes and building up his scrapbook makes him at least as credible source as max.

Not when they're in similar settings, adam. Did you watch ESPN when they had Kellerman? As studio analyists, they aren't even comparable when it comes to boxing knowledge to be perfectly honest.

 

I've seen a ton of him on various boxing videos and streams that I've acquired. I don't miss many fights on your side of the pond, no matter how big or small.

 

Absolutely not. Experience means little when you're an idiot with plain bad/wrong observations.

 

Saw the snippet. Bunce seemed to be limiting his criticism to how Max interviewed Chris John after the fight. He made some good points. I didn't see him go on any general attack against Max.

 

That NOT Bad, Actually::...REED Certainly Expected WORSE...Sam's a BETTER Emcee than Max, but Max WASN'T Completely AWFUL Either...

Having Said that, Max Made a WISE Career Move...

As i've said, credibility can be interpreted in many ways. I disagree quite strongly with a lot of what Bunce says, but on an historical level, he really knows his stuff.....and not just, who beat who, but anecdotes also....and on the current scene, both in britain and europe....he is very clued up.

In britain, we have an advantage at the moment....we get a double dose of boxing....we'll get one or two cards from here each weekend....maybe one from germany.....and usually action from the states or wherever the big world championship fights are coming from .....this week we had 5 different shows, all live, covering 3 countries, over 2 nights.....and that doesn't just impact on the viewers, but journalists too....


AND......that is why us Brits know best on boxing!

The US is flooded with boxing--more than almost anyone can watch, but it is limited to North America and Argentina. Only a few cards from Europe are televised here each year. Whether that makes you better is arguable, but it definitely makes the knowledge of the fans different.

 

yeah, i'm not disputing that his views are often off-point......that is because he is so opinionated...sometimes he can be way off the mark, other times he is bang on the money. I was just disputing implication that Kellerman could whipe the floor with him on factual knowledge etc... Not that i put any great onus on it anyway.

....Buncey mainly gets my respect, not so much for his views, but his passion for our sport. He's doing more than most to give this sport the coverage that it deserves.

 

This guy is not Kellerman, bigdawg.

That is why I made that reference to cdogg about "last night" in another thread to see if he would bite as I hung out and debated Max in the Hilton bar about the welterweight best ever, nice cat, very respectful with a winning personality.

If Max was cdogg in real life, he surely would have said something to me as much as cdogg hates me here, and he didn't.

Someone else told me the rumor was Max was this poster, I hate to break your bubble folks, but he's not.

 

Kellerman has a great grasp on boxing history... it's his strong point. He is also quite obviously a smarter man than Bunce. Either way, I really have no idea who knows more.

i've always enjoyed steve bunce's input. he's a funny guy.

max kellerman was far more likeable when he was on espn as a studio analyst. even when he contributed on espn.com, i liked reading his articles. but let's face it, he's just not a good live commentator.

Despite saying some sometimes ludicrous things, jockying British fighters something fierce (he once said hamed would easily beat not only Morales and Barrera, but Floyd too :: ) and sucking up to fighters in person (partly because he obviously has huge respect for fighters) - I do like him, and he knows his stuff.

Personally I think Max's knowledge is overrated, and certainly seems limited to what's going on around him.

I think Buncey has more knowledge of boxing history AND the world scene, has been covering boxing for longer, and has contributed more to the British boxing scene than Kellerknob has to the US boxing scene.

I kind of like Steve for the same reason that REED likes Max, ie has huge passion for the sport, genuine passion.

The difference is, I find Max to be an irritating fucking nerd, I don't like him as a commentator, but I like Buncey's schtick, and somehow I find Buncey's bullshit less offensive than Max's bullshit.

 

Same here, I used to like Max at the start of FNF but his schtik got old real quick and you can always predict the angle he's gonna try to use even before he opens his mouth. He's garbage.

Not somebody, but more than a few people here, and that is why I sought him out afterwards.

I introduced myself and Max told me "Yeah, I am familiar with you, bro!" and extended his hand, and when he said that, I knew he wasn't cdogg as he was too at ease and open.

He was with his girlfriend and a friend in the bar at the Hilton Americas talking with Tex Cohen of ringsidereport.com and myself, and like most boxing people, is a heck of a nice guy.

We didn't see eye to eye on the best at 147, I said Napoles and he said Robby and we both laid out our cases for our picks, but he is a gentleman, very respectful and professional.

I don't really like Kellerman and I don't even know who this Bunce guy is.

I just don't get what the problem is. I saw the video that was posted on the first page of this thread and Bunce is going on about Kellerman's post fight interview.
