I won't be doing one but I figured I would start the thread because I want to point out that James Kirkland turned pro in 2001. That's really surprising to me.
Yes I have. He doesn't look particularly seasoned :: I would have thought 8 years as a pro would have him looking a little more savvy :dunno: But seriously, I know he is nothing special, and pretty wild etc, but that's exactly WHY I thought he'd be brought along quickly, as he is not a great fighter, and probably won't have a long shelf life either.
Well, the fewer fights he has to get to the top the longer that shelf life will be. Regardless, I can understand why its taken as long as it has to manouver him into a position to get big fights; he's not great and the early part of the decade was all about Jermain Taylor, Kermit Cintron and Miguel Cotto. Kirkland is clearly not in their league and perhaps the hope was he'd develop in the gym. That or he's just had some management issues.
Spot on analysis. Very powerful, very hard hitter, very entertaining fighter, but gets hit a lot himself. Kirkland is a "Winger", doesn't set much up, but just goes out and throws bombs from the opening bell.
..... Just means he didn't likely have much (if any) of an amateur career. He's still only 24 years old. Tonight is a pretty big step up.
Im not sure if "big" is a powerful enough word for what this is. Julio is flawed himself, but even the Julio who struggled with Cosme Rivera is a seriously massive test for this chissled helicopter without a pilot.
too bad. guerrero was in for a tough night. cut or no cut wonder what stinger has to say about guerreros behavior
Kellerman needs to shut the fuck up. Complains about the champions and sanctionig bodies, when Hatton had left the division for two years and upon returning had no interest to face any of the champions. Plus Pacquiao, Marquez and Campbell haven´t even fought at 140.
What I see with Ortiz... Stronger than Arnaoutis and is very close to catching him. I think Arnaoutis has been bothered a little by the power of Ortiz and Ortiz hasn't thrown full power yet. The major negative I see Ortiz goes straight back and doesn't move his head.
Is this the same Mighty Mike Arnaoutis that was calling out Miguel Cotto two years ago? The guy is a complete bum!
