http://msn.foxsports.com/boxing/story/9285394/Breakdown-of-UFC-96 I like the part especially about Shane Carwin. I have been looking this guy up on you tube a bit since his win at the UFC in London(can't remember the number, Bisping vs Lieben). It was on the undercard and wasn't televised but his win was definitely impressive. Gonzaga is a huge step up for him but its a great test. Shane has a wrestling background that might not be as known as Lesnar's but is very close to just as impressive. The guy is huge and very athletic. Keep a close look on his fight with Gonzaga this weekend. It could be pretty interesting.
Carwin-Gonzaga is the biggest reason I'm looking forward to Saturday night. Carwin has been a monster without any of his 10 fights going past the midway part of the first round. It's an understatement to say that Gonzaga is a steep step up in competition. This should be telling.
This really isn't a very good card on paper. No matter which way you slice it, Keith Jardine is not a main event fighter. Not a PPV anyway. He's entertaining, but limited. I hate to use MMA Math, but did you see what Wandy did to Jardine, and what Rampage just did to Wandy? I like Rampage, but I have to say I'm hoping Jardine pulls off the upset, just so Machida gets the next shot like he deserves. I've never cared at all for Gonzaga. Other then his KO of of Cro-Cop, which after seeing how Cro-Cop has fallen off has lost a lot of it's luster, what has Gonzaga ever done to be considered a top heavyweight? I like Carwin and think he has a lot of potential, and I'm hoping he rolls over Gonzaga in impressive fashion. With guys like Carwin, Velasquez, and Dos Santo's all coming up, the heavyweight division in the UFC looks much brighter then it did just a year ago. Miller vs Maynard and Sell vs. Brown should be good fights. Miller (and his brother Dan) and Sell are local guys who I saw fighting on their way up for groups like Ring of Combat here in NJ. Sell and Brown are average fighters at best, but always exciting. Miller and Maynard are both up and comers and could end up being great fighters, so this is a very good matchup. I like Sell by KO and Miller by submission. TFK
What's the deal with Matt Brown? The dude's got an 8-7 record and really doesn't seem overwhelmingly good yet he's about to fight in a televised bout on his fourth UFC card in less than 10 months. Is the dude Joe Silva's stepson? Does someone see great potential? Or has the guy just become a last minute, injury slot-filling fighter?
Did you see what Jardine did to Forrest who beat Rampage? :: I give Jardine a shot, look what Forrest was able to do with leg kicks against Rampage. Jardine has some mean leg kicks. If it goes to a decision, it's going to be a close one. Officially, I'm taking rampage by KO but it wouldn't surprise me to see Jardine take a decision.
I have never been a fan of Gonzaga, but don't you still agree this is a big step up in comp for Corwin, TFK? I really hope Miller beats Maynard. I know Gray is a likable guy, but I just can't stand his lay-and-pray style. He has nice takedowns and never does fuck with them. I have Rampage by KO. I think Rampage moving camps has elevated his game, Jardine wil go down.
This is JUST the Type of Fight where Rampage Generally Shows his INCONSISTENCY...If he's SERIOUS, he Should Blow Jardine Out, but if Rampage is Bullshitting, this Fight'll B MUCH Tougher than it Should B... REED WANTS to Like Rampage, but he's a HARD Guy to Figure Out...REED Thinks this Fight will DEFINE just how SERIOUSLY Rampage Takes the Remainder of his Career...Does he Want to B GREAT or Does he just Want to B a Celebrity???... REED:hammert:
Gonzaga is a considerable step up from the cans Carwin has fought. Gonzaga is no slouch, he has very heavy hands(and feet). His grappling/sub skills are admirable. This could be a tough fight.
wow, that card is just awful on paper. Besides the two main fights, the opener (Matt Brown/Pete Sell) is the best fight. :notallthere:
this is definitely not a ppv worthy card. They are just banking on Rampage's popularity for it to sell. I think the Corwin/Gonzaga fight is the best fight on the card personally. Maynard/Miller is a crapshoot, if Miller has his way it will be good, if Maynard has the upperhand it will be a snoozefest
I`ll stay away from MMAth here. Anyone see how Forrest controversialy beat Rampage? Leg kicks. Rampage didn`t have an answer for them, and Jardine is pretty darned good at them. Thats why im still on the fence this close to the fight. I hope Rampage has been training for the leg kicks because if not, he`s in for a long fight.
Carwin got a dynamite right hand but doesn't knows how to react at all when he gets hurt. Worst of all, his chin seems pretty soft too.
He looked pretty slow and vulnerable at times. I think some of it might have been underestimating Jardine and having trouble with his awkwardness though.
It's not easy trying to stand up to 3 flush shots to the chin from a 6'3, 257lb goliath like Gonzaga who has 1 punch KO power while wearing 4 ounce gloves. Come on!
Damn my picks all sucked tonight (1-4). I had better luck picking my nose than picking the fights! Wost ever. The card was`nt that bad at all! Hammil looked the best i`ve ever seen him. His standup looked so much more improved. Still alot to work on though. Brandon Vera looked like a beast. Too bad it was against a can. Hopefully he`s backon track and starts beating some top competition. Matt Brown finally impressed me. All that tough guy hype finally came out. Carwin looked strong! But I would have liked to seen the fight go longer and seen him work off the ground more so we have some kind of idea where he stands in the division. Jardine did ok. He fell just a little short. Rampage looked slow tonight. If the same Rampage that fought tonight shows up against Rashad, he`ll get picked apart. Rashad has KO power, has faster hands and feet. Brings more skills to the table than Rampage does at this point.
I called every fight except for Tim Boetsch's. Rampage has no mobility. If you stand there, he has the power to spark you out. Rashad will beat him, but Rashad will have a tough time with Lyoto. Lyoto might even win. Rampage will not beat Rashad. I'm calling it.
agREED... A Win is a WIN, but Rampage WASN'T Impressive...REED's Still NEW N his MMA Fandom & TRIES To Like Rampage, but he Really HASN'T Given REED a Reason to (REED Jumped On AFTER he KO'ed Chuck, F.Y.I.).... Sure, he CLEARLY Beat Jardine, but Rampage COULD have KO'ed Dude ANYTIME he Wanted to...REED Watched the Fight w/Some BROTHERS who Box & have HEARD of Rampage & REED was Trying to SELL them on MMA via Rampage, but he Failed MISERABLY Tonight... A Clear-Cut Win, but NOT an Impressive 1.... REED:nono:
