The only MMA league making any money is the UFC.

Competition is GOOD for the Overall Growth of MMA...The UFC Probably WON'T Like it, but it's GOOD for the Sport Itself...

The best fighters are already with UFC and now Strikeforce. King might be able to put a decent card for hardcore fans, but I doubt he can get a big name to carry the event. Fedor is always an option, but I don't think DKP understands MMA enough to know what makes the fans watch the fights. UFC gets arenas packed because of national TV exposure. TUF and regular shows on Spike. What King might try to do is what Affliction and EliteXC already tried and fail at. I see this going nowhere.

The Thing is, Don King's an Evil GENUIS....

If the Affliction & EliteXC Model is Tried & GUARANTEED to Fail, King WON'T Go that Route...As RICH as he Is, Don King is FRUGAL like Jewish Guys Stereotypically R...King ISN'T Going Into this Trying to LOSE Money, Not even a SMALL Amount:nono:...

Granted, UFC has NATHAN to Worry about, but if ANYBODY Is Capable of Putting Together a Lower Level MMA Company w/Potential LONGEVITY, it's Don King...

Don King usually goes after the 'names'. Who can forget when he walked in with Frazier and walked out with Foreman?
If he knows anything or tried learning anything about MMA, then he'll probably realize which fights the fans want. Who knows, maybe he'll make an effort to give the fans Fedor vs Barnett in a main event along with CroCop vs Arlovski in a co-main event. Big matches will attract the fans. But it's going to take a superhuman effort to try to establish a brand to compete with the UFC right now. I don't see that happening for a long time with the way things are going.
It's like a start up pro wrestling company trying to compete with Vince McMahon's WWE. No chance in hell! :nono: WCW did it with Ted Turner's funding and having a f*ckload of established superstars in a crowded roster. No MMA league out there has any money to really spend to establish a monster company, it's going to take a long time.
The UFC was almost out of business before somebody had a brain scheme of putting together a reality show which became an overnight success and exploded the UFC brand.

In this case I don't think competition is good. I like the fact that the UFC is only game in town it makes for exciting fights. Rashad just won belt and for that win he gets thrown into the cage with Rampage - the more competition = more shit fights ala boxing.

How does the UFC being the only game in town make for exciting fights? Especially when the best fighters in the world aren't employed by the UFC?
Stop being a blind nuthugger and try to see the big picture. Competition is what we need. MMA was a million times more exciting when UFC and Pride were competing. Pride consistently put on far superior events.

The UFC IMO is the modern day pride - where was the competition for Pride... Yes Pride had better fights that is because Pride was even more dominant than the UFC

I don't give a rats ass which body is the biggest/best/powerful I just was to see the best guys fight each other and that is what happens in the UFC.

Exactly. Don gets a lot of hate, and despite seeming like a cartoon, he's one sharp cookie.

He'll probably look at the businesses that failed, work out why, and avoid doing the same thing. He's no idiot.

Like you said, if anyone is capable of developing another MMA org, maybe not one that overtakes the UFC, but one that survives at least, it's Don.

There will be more competition. Soon enough, somebody will come along who will do things the right way and try to build a legitimate organization. Good for the sport, good for the fans.
:bears: The UFC is basking in its glory for now while the sport is young and while the fighters don't have many options to compete for big money other than in the UFC.

We don't know how passionate he is about MMA. That's the thing. From what I've read, he doesn't even like MMA and is only in this thing to make money. Has he done his homework on what the fans want? Or is he just going to round up a bunch of bar fighters and throw them in a cage? And what role is he taking? Just a guy giving advice or is he going to actually try to establish a brand of his own? Not a fly by night as most of these guys are doing. Is he going to invest his life into making this work?

News like this is a dream for fighters looking for opportunities but a nightmare for the likes of Dana White. Last thing Dana wants is competition. He knows that any of his fighters will gladly ditch his ass and work for the comp if the money is offered. You know it, I know it.

There are more guys fighting to get into the UFC than fighting to get out.

Competition is good for fighters, but multiple guys called 'champions' who won't ever fight each other is completely and utterly bad for fans.

I think he is thinking about how everything worth watching in boxing anymore is a PPV and much of that is King and HBO. But the UFC won't be letting King in the door and the UFC has a great contract and partnership with Spike that won't be going anywhere.

ridiculous, they are hardly any quality UFC show on free tv unless you cont TUF as quality tv ( I don't ). Fact is, Dana White ( backed by the Fertitas of course) has been far worse than Don King has ever be. He's far more of a crook to the fighters than King has ever been, and he puts more, or at the same amount, crap on PPV than Don King does. Yet Don King is the bad guy that will ruin MMA:notallthere::notallthere:

Fair point. I guess to successfully market a product you do have to believe in it.

Still, Don is an awesome businessman, so my money would be on him not failing like the others.

I am not a White apologist by any means. But seriously. When was the last time King put any boxing on anything but ppv/premium channels?

and haven't put on a great card since a long time ago. King is washed up, Top Rank and GBP took over and kicked his ass onto the HW division. He can't do much with an MMA roster.
