Fight stopped on a cut in the 5th caused by an accidental headbut. Khan was well ahead on the cards and that was that.

Khan still sucks. He's probably the most athletically gifted fighter in the sport right now but he has all the brain power of a steamed cabbage.

Nope, Pacquiao is more athletically gifted. Faster hands, and MUCH faster feet, quicker reactions, and MUCH harder punch.

Khan is fast hands. He's still less athletically gifted than a prime Judah for example, I am not sure what makes you think he is the most athletically gifted fighter in boxing.

Right fine, excuuuuuse me. :lol:He's the second or third most athletically gifted fighter in the sport, then. The basic point remains - he has all the physical gifts in the world but is dumber than pig shit.

I've always said he'll be a world champion. And I've always said I don't care, he still sucks. If I wanted to watch mindless athleticism I'd be spending my time watching track & field, not boxing.

Fair enough. He is athletically gifted, but it's mainly just his handspeed.

Power is also physical talent, so are reactions, and neither of those attributes are great for Khan.

His footspeed is nothing special too.

And yes, he has the IQ of a fencepost in and out of the ring. And I don't like him in or out of the ring.

Slice, I remember YEARS back we used to argue - when Pacman was still a flyweight you liked his chances against Morales and Barrera, I told you you were mad and he'd get butchered.

It turns out you were right

    But you're wrong this time.

Khan is honestly nothing special. His main attribute is handspeed, and that only goes so far.

His power is average, he has no ring intelligence or craftsmanship to speak of, his punch repertoire is basic, his footwork is average, and his chin is SHIT.

He won't be as accomplished a fighter as Judah.

He'll win a paper belt of course, but he'll never be as legit a champion as Judah was, or as legit a fighter as Judah was.

He won't be anywhere near as successful as Hatton or Slappy Joe.

Honestly I doubt he's even as successful as The Shitter.

Him against David Diaz or Michael Katsidis is a pick em fight, put it that way.

I watched the show live on Saturday. It was only $25 so I went for it. Honestly, the only fight on the bill that isn't worth talking about is MAB/Khan. The show was really fun to watch other than the main event.

Ola is my new hero.

Also Khan has good power in his right hand. He has good variety in his offense, a solid jab. As long as he stays diciplined, keeps his hands up, and doesn't force his offense he will be a star. He's a good little fighter and he's only 22 years old.

seeing as nobody found the other thread, i may as well copy and paste what i said here...

The Khan fight didn't tell us an awful lot

Not only was he fighting an old, out-sized Barrera, but he was fighting an old, out-sized and one-eyed barrera.

He boxed great though, pretty much faultless so i can't take anything away from him......it is just a shame that the cut put Barrera at such a disadvantage.

I don't think without the cut Barrera would have been in any immediate danger of getting KO'd....the fight would have gone on longer, he'd come on a little stronger and have more opportunity to land the one shot that can turn a fight around vs Khan

on the undercard....i felt sorry for Enzo Maccarinelli, just cos he is a nice guy who has had a lot of rotten luck over the last year.....but frankly he's not quite top class material......anyone with durability and a half-decent punch always has a chance against him......he didn't box a smart fight at all, and i think the KO was as much exhaustion as anything else....he could have won the fight easily behind the jab

Martinez isn't all that.....Nicky Cook was getting the better of things....stunned Martinez badly in the 2nd.....but he got caught by a cracking shot and then was a little too brave in trying to defend himself by trading with Martinez when he should have been covering up and holding

Who Khan fights next is an intriguing one.....they want to get him a shot for early next year....he's not ready for the current champion....i don't think he ever will be.....but if that is the target, then they either have to test him against a frindge contender and see if he is really capable at world class.....or, protect him (because he it only takes 1 punch) and put all the eggs in one basket, get the title fight and hope for the best

a fight i'd like to see is vs Kid Diamond....he's a proper lightweight....frindge top 10.....he'd be a dangerous opponent, but would give us a clearer indication of how good Khan really is.....because last night was a poor barometer

this post sort of brings the thread full circle. :atu:

I agree. Khan is a question mark. his handspeed and power are there and he has jumped back from his loss. We will see. I think he is young enough to learn a bit.... but Mex and some of the other guys are right about his lack of ring smarts (any smarts).

He reminds me a lot of Judah that way actually. Great natural ability, stupidity and a lot of flaws.

Khan can punch too. He stops practicly everyone he faces. Why are people saying Khan can't punch?

Because he can't. He whacked small, shot MAB with a PLETHORA of flush shots and couldn't even come close to putting him down or stopping him.

    Khan can't punch.

The people he has KO'd are absolute bums.

Pacman and Floyd are FAR more intelligent than Khan. I'm not saying Khan lacks intelligence, I'm saying he is thick as 2 short planks, an absolute fucking donut. It's painful how stupid he is.

In the ring he's not much brighter either.

If by "champ" you mean a paper champ by beating one of the sorrier excuses for a titleholder, then yes I agree, he is on track to becoming "champ".

Cook looked pretty sharp until he got caught with a cracking shot and that was pretty much that. He showed absolutely zero brains in trying to trade with Martinez having been dropped that hard: he should have clung on for dear life until his legs rejoined the rest of his body.

Enzo is the only other fighter in England with a chin as bad as Khans  He looked vulnerable everytime he got caught and he allowed Ola to rope-a-dope him- he utterly punched himself out hitting gloves for nine rounds and stood right in front of a guy perfectly capable of punching his lights odd. Fucking ridiculous (and oh how I laughed).

As for Khan, that fight taught us nothing. From the second the cut happened it was a doctor's stoppage waiting to happen. Khan seems to have learned to keep his hands up high mind, albeit that he kept leaping in and out of range like a startled cat. It's a start, I suppose.

Was a fun card, I must say mind...

I was a little intoxicated on saturday, I must admit, so I'm glad I didn't just imagine seeing him skipping around as if on a pogo stick.

    Ahh, the feeling of vindication...
