Yes, but don't underestimate Khan's power, bro.

Kotelnik is a taker, and that does not bode well for his chances vs. a sharpshooter like Amir.

Emile Griffith was stopped in the first round vs. Rubin "Hurricane" Carter when he was Welterweight Champion, but look at what Griffith accomplished after that.

Of course, I am in no way comparing Khan to the Great Griffith, but that example illustrates a fighter can come back from adversity against fighters naturally bigger than him with great success down the fistic trail.

 

Khan's power is completely unproven at 140 and arguably somewhat unproven even at 135. There is no-one going to convince me that Khan hits harder than Junior Witter, and he never for a second looked like getting Kotelnik out.

Andreas Kotelnik is one of the most underrated champions in boxing right now. As Khan will find out very soon.

Hitting harder is not necessarily the issue, hitting accurate is.

seriously though, kotelnik doesnt have what it takes to beat amir. too basic, hand speed is the best asset you can have in boxing, hands down.

I agree that Hatton is the long term objective- I just don't think they have a cat in hells chance of pulling it off. Hatton has much bigger fish to fry, starting with Manny. Hatton is beyond world title baubles now, it seems to me at least, whilst Khan is levels below anything which might interest Ricky.

You need some sort of explosion of energy even with speed, to punch properly. Khan has fast amateur style punches, no real meat on them.

Seriously, with the amount of flush shots he landed, he would have hurt/dropped/stopped old featherweight Barrera if he could punch.

I wouldn't go as far as to call Khan featherfisted, but at world level his power is very average for a lightweight, nothing more than that.

 

i actually think they will fight. when khan beats koletnik he will have some bargaining power as he has a belt. whilst ricky if he has lost to pacman at that time, which i expect to happen convincingly, will find himself most likely looking at fighting someone for a belt, as floyd wont rematch him, and will most likely be fighting pac, and jmm will be looking at the winner of pac/pbf, or valero. which leaves hatton either bradley or khan, which is the bigger fight, especially in the uk? gotta be the bolton bomber, and yes ricky beats him right now, but i wouldnt write khan off when it happens.

 

Rubin Carter's KO of Emile Griffith is just one of those fluke things, it should also be noted Griffith was not yet a middleweight when that fight happened

I think time will show whether this is the case or not, the worlds number one lightweight couldn't stop Barrera either so I don't think it's fair to say he is a light hitter off of one fight. He sparked Graham Earl much faster than Katsidis did so theres numerous ways you can point to different examples to say "he doesn't hit hard" etc, he don't even need to hit hard anyway, just use your speed and stay out of the way. I think he hits harder than people think, although I can see your point and why people might think he is a light hitter. At this point though it all remains to be seen, although I think there have been definite improvements under roach

dunno man, khan looked like was made out of tofu as soon as prescott threw the first jab. if khan rematched prescott and managed to remain conscious until the 7th round i'd be surprised.

 

i agree that if khan let prescott get through with those kind of shots again he ain't getting up, but he has waaaayyyy more skill and natural talent than prescott. he should never have lost to a guy like that in the first place, he would handle breidis pretty comfortably in a rematch i feel.

 

if khan, roach, and warren share your confidence, they'll get that signed asap - it'd be a big cash-cow.

can't think of any precedents of people getting ko'd in the first round and then avenging their loss... (trivia question?)

Prescott is very ordinary. Personnally, I'd be surprised if Khan lost again to him in an eventual rematch. I think the first fight was a fluke. Watch the guy fight (Prescott), he won't stay undefeated for long...

 

yeah, good point. if khan gets the title, maybe a prescott rematch will appear a few fights later. i'm sure prescott is ready to rematch khan tomorrow if he could.
