According to fightnews, Sunday, June 7, Urijah Faber is going to get a rematch with Mike Brown at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento. I saw the first fight, and I'm not sure if it was a fluke as Brown brings it. Hopefully it is much more competitive than the first.
Brown is a strong dude at 145. I would not be surprised to see Brown take it again. The guy is an animal, did you see his last fight?
I met Mike at a Team Quest event down in Portland. Really cool guy. But Z is right about being strong at 145. The guy does not look 145. He looks like he walks around at 170+. He has serious skills too. Faber has relied on his strength and athleticism to rip through guys. He will have to be on his game to beat Brown. I could see either guy winning, but my pick is Brown.
I'm going with Brown too. You are right on about Faber. It's not like he's especially skilled at any one thing. He's just a really athletic well rounded guy, but even at 145 is pretty small. Do you think Faber could make 135? He would be a big 135er. How about a Torres fight? I think that's his best option if he loses this fight. He would really be a force at 135 if he can make it.
Brown is so tight with his stand-up and that works perfectly against Faber's free wheeling style. If Faber tries to come out more controlled then he wouldn't be Urijah Faber and is an ordinary fighter. Faber would best served to get on the ground early and often. On the ground Faber's pace and wrestling will give him the best shot to win. Pick em for me.
good points, Trplsec. I see it very similar. Faber's standup isn't great, he just tries to overwhelm guys and Brown is way too experienced and disciplined to let that happen. Faber needs to get this to the ground. The problem is I think Brown's ground skills are better but Faber is the better wrestler, Faber will have to win by GNP.
Brown made Faber uncomfortable in there and forced Faber to do something stupid.Brown deserves props for that win,he was winning the fight leading up to the KO IMO And Brown wins again in a more competative fight.
I just re-watched Brown-Curran and was again impressed with Brown's strength on the ground. Curran is a slippery technician but Brown was too strong on the ground. The more I think about, the more I question Faber's real advantage on the ground and his overall chances. Damn, this rematch gets more and more interesting
I missed the Garcia fight, I'll check to see if its on youtube later. I did see the Curran fight though, and he looked tough as nails.
Short of Being More CAUTIOUS, REED Can't See what Faber can Do DIFFERENTLY...Mike Brown is a TRUE MMA PUNCHER...When he Lands Solid, it's YOUR ASS Pretty Much.... REED Doubts if Faber is Good Enough @ Boxing to FEINT & COUNTER...Like Trplsec Said, it Appears that Faber's BEST Chance is on the Ground...REED WANTS Faber to Win but Wouldn't Bet a Dime on his Chances... REED:hammert:
IMO, this fight comes down to Brown trains his ass off in 100% world class MMA gym. Faber is the better athelete with tons of potential, but his gym will never get it out of him.
U have the Inside Scoop on their Gyms, Jarhead???...If so, ELABORATE a Little Bit.... What is Faber NOT Doing???...& WHAT Could B Done to MAXIMIZE his Potential???.... REED:hammert:
This card just got even better with Jose Aldo facing Cub Swanson. Aldo has looked awesome since joining WEC, and Swanson is a big step up for him. Look for the winner to get the next title shot. TFK
Faber didn't really show anything that would suggest he'd win a rematch. Brown was winning the fight, and took him out conclusively. Brown looked by far the stronger man in there, and Faber usually relies on outmuscling people. I pick Brown again. He looked like a beast again in smashing Garcia.
I am becoming a big fan of Aldo. The guy has serious skill, he should take Cub out in less than a round. I would love to see him fight Garcia, but I don't blame them for giving him the next title shot, he deserves it. To answer your question, REED, no. I don't have any inside scoop on the two camps. Faber fights out of Sacremento, with Capitol City Fighting Alliance(not sure if its alliance or association, can't remember). He is their star and is even one of the trainers/coaches. Mike trains with American Top Team where he is just one of many world class fighters. He rolls and spars with world class fighters every day. Most of whom are actually bigger and some even more accomplished than him. Faber doesn't have that. So he works on conditioning and allot of wrestling/GNP. I just think if Faber wants to progress as a fighter he has to get outside his comfort zone and challenge himself. He has so much raw potential but I just don't think he is going to maximize it there. Rampage was kind of the same, but he went to a new camp and is looking sharper than ever. Just one fan's opinion, but opinions are like assholes, right?artie:
:: True, but Your Opinion is Actually QUITE Valid ont his Matter, Jarhead...It Makes PERFECT Sense...N Boxing, Trainers R ALWAYS Looking for SUPERIOR Sparring for their Guys...Guys Who R BETTER, More VERSATILE, HARDER Punchers or Whatever the Case May B...REED Never Gave it Thought, but it ALSO Makes Sense to Treat MMA the Same Way...Even if U're a Cross-Trained MMAist there's STILL Somebody Out There who's BIGGER &/or BETTER... It's 1 Thing to Run your Own SCHOOL or Whatever, but when it's Time to Train for a FIGHT, the Fighter HAS to B Pushed...If Faber is LITERALLY Coaching the Guys that R Supposedly PREPPING Him for a World Title Fight, he's ASKING for Trouble... Even a Cat like GSP Brings in BIGGER Men to Work w/Him like Rashad Evans...& a Cat like Anderson Silva has ALL Of Brazil to Pick & Choose from, for Topnotch Sparring.... Some Guys Get a TASTE of Success, Think they've MADE it & DON'T Make Changes/Improvements on their Pre-Fight Preparation...If Faber ISN'T Venturing OUT of Sac-Town to Train, he's ASKING for Another Ass Whipping...There Damn Sure AIN'T No Mike Brown's in Sacramento.... REED:: ps. REED Always Wondered WHY Brown was Sooooooooooo HUMBLE All the Time, but U've just Answered that Question for REED...
