Its only a small shock really, truth is they were always walking a risky line between keeping him active (especially after the hiatus) and keeping him in line for a big title shot/cashout. He's really pretty bad. I would love to see him against Matthew macklin for an all-Irish MW fight, could do big numbers.

Well I always had my doubts about Duddy against the elite guys at the division but this is an embarrassment for Team Duddy.
I think Macklin is his best chance of regaining the spot light. I'm sure that fight would sell out at the new o2.
It is definitely a fight that the Irish fans want to see.

The only shock was that it took this long. Duddy is absolute garbage and was lucky to scrape past some no-name Canadian not so long ago after being hit at will for half a fight.

Mind you, those scores are bizarre- 98-92 against him and 96-94 in his favour? How the hell do you manage that?

Irish fighters are unfairly hyped up,..for in comparison to America, there is only a handful,..and the odds are those handful are just going to be average, one away,.. but because they're Irish,.. they are matched carefully, financed and protected,..given adequate press release teams and attention a piece,..only to come crashing down,.. just like your average American journeyman will, it's got to be embarrasing. I could imagine a 'dinky dinkum' all Australian fighter! show up in big lights, in New York city,.. scraping the barrel of talent around here and preserving 0's on the records of 5 average profiles,.. it would only be a matter of time before they 'pick the wrong bum'.

Yet ironically enough, almost certainly the most interesting Irish Fighter at the moment is Martin Rogan, who almost no-one seems to talk about but is making considerable progress...

Really?.. .. what banner is he under?.. .. 'Irish ropes'.. would be SALIVATING for that bit of vagina to clunkle around on a tall stick. What seems to be the problem?,..

    ..............................I know.... :crafty: it's because he's black isn't it?..

I just looked him up,.. he looks like a pudgey 50 year old man,.. it turns out he's 37,..I can see why he's missed the boat, even if he is Irish,... I thought you were talking about the Irish amatuer who James Degale fought,...I think he was black, and assumed he must have turned pro and wasn't getting any attention on the account of his appearance.

I know the guy you mean, and he's still Ammy I think...

Rogan is fat, old and great fun to watch. He recently had the good grace to beat Fraudley Harrison and then did the very difficult and stopped Matt Skelton.

The first guy to stop Skelton. :bears:

Rogan is the modern day Cinderella Man. I first saw him take part in Prize fighter and although he was entertaining I never thought he would defeat anyone of Skeltons standard. Apart from the top 5 or so I think Rogan would have a decent chance against the other HW's.

The Irish guy that fought DeGale is Darren Sutherland - this dude has potential and IMO is far better that DeGale.

Yep this is really no surprise. Duddy is a borderline bum, just like Andy Lee.

Honestly though the one thing that DOES surprise me is the fact that he lost to a scrub before being thrown to the wolves. I really thought they would have got him in there with someone like Pavlik by now.

I've seen racism is sport but I gotta say Darren gets nothing but respect and to be honest I never even thought about it until that clown brought it up.

I don't think the word 'shock' is required in the thread title.

the odds on Lyell were 21.0 - it might not be a shock that he lost, but definitely that he lost against THIS particular fella...

It would have been fine if 'shock' was typed as "shock", instead of shock.

Its highly benefical for his health that the Pavlik fight never came off. Kelly woulda had him eating through a straw.
