Look I'm not saying that Spinks is a killer at the box office, but he did used to sell out when he was champ, if memory serves me correct. I could be wrong though. All I'm saying is Mosley was never a big box office killer himself. Hell, if Mosley was fighting Spinks it probably wouldn't be a PPV either.

True. If you call out guys who are retired (even if a phoney one) who are in heavier weight classes you can't exactly expect them to make the move. Marquez knew what weight Floyd was at. If you won't fight the guy there then don't bring his name up.

At the same time Marquez is not the only guy who called out Mayweather.

I can't back Floyd all the way on this one. When you only reply to guys calling you out who represent the smallest risk with the highest award there's only so far you can cry the "but they called me out". angle.

 

Everyone "calls out" the big names, or even the not-so-big names, in boxing.

Margarito, Mosley, Spinks, even Courtney Burton called out Mayweather. Mayweather called out Hamed, Freitas, Dorin, Tszyu, etc...Toney has called out like every boxer on the planet.

I don't see why anyone cares about it.

It's just a way to add hype or get our name out there, but a real "call out" is calling the fighter's team on the phone and trying to work out a deal.

I would imagine Spinks-Latimore would have done well as they are both from St Louis.

I see no facts here. Where are these awesome numbers for Spinks fights? He draws in St Louis and no place else on earth. The fact is Spinks vs Floyd MIGHT do a good number of ticket sales, it would not be on PPV and Mosley vs Floyd certainly would. I'm telling you right now, more people will pay to see Mosley and Floyd fight than Spinks vs Floyd.

 

It's true he has a good fan base in St Louis I won't dispute that. It's ONLY in St louis though. Over all, are you really going to say Spinks is the bigger draw?

Shane is a PPV fighter against any big name. Who the fuck is going to pay to see Spinks?

 

The cable company only cares about the PPV revenue...they don't get a cut of the gate. That's for the promoters to worry about. With that said, Mosley vs Mayweather is a PPV fight whereas Mayweather vs Spinks is a Boxing After Dark show.

Hell, as well as Spinks - Lattimore did at the gate it was STILL a ShoBox show...meaning, Showtime didn't put very much money into it.

 

No kidding, Spinks can't attract flies let alone fight fans. ::
