    by Ryan Burton

</TD></TR><TR><TD style="PADDING-RIGHT: 20px" vAlign=top bgColor=#ffffff>At the post fight press conference after Manny Pacquiao's destruction of Ricky Hatton, Bob Arum said that Miguel Cotto is Pacquiao's next likely opponent. He said that Pacquiao will be ringside for Cotto's fight against Joshua Clottey. Arum did say that nothing is set in stone and that he would talk to Bruce Trampler (Top Rank Matchmaker) and then with Manny and Freddy Roach to decide their plan of action. When asked about Mayweather Arum said that Mayweather would probably ask for too much and that Pacquiao is boxing's pound for pound king and a bigger draw than Mayweather.

arum says that mayweather jr will probably ask for too much?

arum is funny sometimes, he knows he stands to make more money off the gate and pay per view sales with a cotto fight than a mayweather fight. I guess pacquaio has a better chance vs cotto than mayweather jr but he'd be taking a lower guarantee as well as a lower overall amount of money to take on a very risky opponent in cotto.

    I was thinking....

between Pac and Mayweather..who will take the bigger cut..i don't see Mayweather going for 50/50 and i see Pac agree to 50/50..but not anything less than that...

Pac vs. Cotto will be easier to make....

we'll see what pacquaio's ppv numbers are versus hatton and what mayweather jr - marquez does. 50-50 seems to be a fair split and I'm sure hbo will push HARD for mayweather jr vs pacquaio. cotto can always face the winner. IF cotto defeats clottey. either way it will be a hard fight for cotto and he's not coming out unscathed

Analyzing the styles.... Manny is a nightmare for Cotto. You need not look any further than Cotto's fights with Corley, and Judah to see how a sp can hurt Cotto. Miguel doesnt have much headmovement, and with Manny's handspeed he's gonna find Cotto an easy target. Fuck it.... I say Manny KO's Cotto. But Cotto has a better chance than Hatton did.

If Manny does end up fighting Cotto, then after Floyd beats Marquez.. there will NO excuse... he BETTER fight Mosley.

Man fuck Arum.. Even though Pacquiao vs Cotto is a live fight he knows the public is screaming for a Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight.. He's gonna be the one to kill the fight from happening.. It should be 50/50 split hands down.. But I agree with X I see a Pacquiao and Cotto fight going excatly like that.. Wouldn't mind seeing it even though I rather see Mayweather and Pacquiao...

Cotto ko'ed both Judah/Corley..and dealt w/ Mosley speed...the thing that is going to fuck w/ Cotto is Manny foot speed.....and angles...and the fact taht Cotto won't be able to attack the body...Manny is a small guy and keeps moving......

:dunno: Arum is not killing Pac vs. May....if Pacquiao goes on to KO Cotto...that only put more pressure on Mayweather to fight Pacquiao....

For those that think that PBF deserves 50-50 against Pacquiao is trippin. Had they fought after PBF ko'd Hatton then yes he deserved 50-50 perhaps 55-45. But now Pacquiao is the man and a 55-45 split is due in his favor. I'll Holla 5000

This fight depends on Floyd. He will decide whether or not it is made. I doubt Pac is going to refuse to fight him. If May argues over the split (assuming 50-50 or 55-45 in Pac's favor), then he is bitching out.

Like Someone Else Said, the Floyd-Marquez Fight WILL B a Factor...If Floyd-Marquez OUTSELLS Pac-Hatton, that'll Pretty Much SHIT on the Notion that Manny is a BIGGER Draw...Thus Making it DIFFICULT for Manny to DEMAND 50/50...

Here's what we DO Know...Floyd-DeLa Outsold Pac-DeLa...REED DOUBTS if Pac-Hatton Outsells Floyd-Hatton...REED EXPECTS Floyd-Marquez to Outsell Pac-Marquez II as Well...

I've been surprised by your recent posts bigdawg, objective and reasonable.

For some reason I thought you were more of a Floyd groupie.

That coupled with the fact he waited until Cotto and Margarito were beaten...two guys he wanted no part of. Toss in ducking Shane to fight a smaller guy...should have something to do with it.

The thing with Floyd being the bigger draw...enough of that crap. In the Hatton fight Ricky wa sthe draw. Look at the amount of people and money he brings to Vegas...the same holds true for Manny.

I seriously doubt Grand Rapids is well represented when Floyd fights.

Floyd retired for one reason...he was pissed he didn't get what he wanted for the rematch with De La Hoya...gambled (as he loves to do) and lost. Once Manny destroyed Oscar it shit on Floyd's win.

Second, Floyd needs the money. I heard that someone asked Floyd about his tax problems and he responded by saying he'd just purchased a $15 million house and had the balls to say, "I pay my taxes when I want to pay them."

Can't wait for that to funnel down to the IRS offices.

i dunno if Roach will be happy going up to 147....i think he wants to keep Manny around 140

the thing is, Manny is so god damn fast, despite his last two fights being at 140 and 147, we still don't know what will happen if a bigger fighter actually can find some success......i don't think Cotto is that guy (too slow).....Mosley is the one to avoid (i don't think Mosley would entertain a catch weight contest anyway)

BULLSHIT, Muzse...For as Much as U KNOW about Boxing, U CONSISTENTLY Allow your HATE for Mayweather to DISCREDIT him, Even when it ISN'T Warranted...

Sure, the LIVE GATE Can Mostly B Attributed to Hatton, but How about the AMERICAN PPV #'s???...How about the Presence of AMERICAN Celebrities???...REED Guarantees that NOBODY will Credit Hatton for the #'s that Pac-Hatton Did, yet U Wanna Give ALL Floyd-Hatton Credit to Ricky???...

THE ONLY Reason there was a "Mayweather-Hatton 24/7" is Because of how BRILLIANTLY Floyd Played the "Bad Guy" Role in "Dela Hoya-Mayweather 24/7"...Ricky Hatton was Completely UNKNOWN to Mainstream American Audiences, yet there he was on an American Reality Show...WHY???...Because of Floyd Mayweather...

"Ya'll Musta Forgot" that Floyd was on "Dancing with the Stars" for SEVERAL WEEKS as Well, which Certainly HELPED Because Floyd OPENLY PROMOTED the Hatton Fight on that Show...THEN, Floyd had Helio Castroneves (The WINNER of that Season of "Dancing w/the Stars"), Wayne Newton (Mr. Las Vegas HIMSELF), Mark Cuban AND Fiddy Cent (Like him or Not, Dude is MAINSTREAM) ALL Part of his Entourage for the Weigh-In AND Fightnight...

To Say Floyd ISN'T a Draw is NATHAN More than HATE, Dog...There's a REASON why DeLa's BIGGEST Grossing Fight is w/Floyd & NOT Tito, Vargas or even Pac...

    Let's Keep it REAL, Dog...

England is a much smaller country than the US and the British PPV did over 1 million...Floyd got NONE of that money. In the end, hatton made more than Floyd did.

Also, I suggest you read Thomas Hauser's article about Mayweather-hatton and how the fight was made for ticket scalping. The casino's and promoters purchase the vast majority of the tickets upfront.

Hauser's article talks about how Hatton made a killing on the reselling of his ticket alotment...something like a 30% markup.

I think some need to rethink what the term "draw" means...in terms of Vegas, they're concerned about high rollers and money spent in casino's. It's clear that hatton brought it in the Mayweather fight and this fight as well as the crowd Manny brings to gamble in the casino's.

BTW...Jay-Z, Nicholson, Denzel and Puffy were at the fight last week the same as they've been for mayweather fights. The "celebrity" angle on who is or isn't a 'draw' is pointless.

Then again, Manny doesn't rap but he sings.

Speaking of the "bad guy" role, Floyd was asked about that at the press conference. The question was somewhere along the line of why he feels he needs to be "the bad guy" in every promotion and if he feels it has a negative impact on his marketabilty. Floyd's response was, "I'm just being me." The obvious reply is, well you just admitted you're an asshole.

That's another tired cliche that there needs to be a "bad guy" in every promotion. A good fight sells itself.

lastly...you do realize that "Dancing with the Stars" is solely reserved for D-List stars, no? What's next, Floyd doing Nutri-system commercials with Marie Osmond? Come on.
