Not at all..you spend your time in the TAA section..when you come here to this side of the board...it's for one or two things...a filipino is fighting...or a filipino won a big fight.... you are not a boxing fan....you probably would not care to shits about boxing if not for Manny Pacquiao... ::
What weight is this fight going to be at? I hate this fight. It sucks that Marquez is cashing out like this. He should stay at 135 and have success there, he will have none versus floyd.
Actually I don't know if I would. I might, but not nearly as much. I'm Filipino, and I'm proud of what my countryman was able to accomplish and continues to accomplish. I bet a lot of boxing fans become bigger fans of the sport when their countrymen are doing good. Nonito, and Viloria crushed their opponents last month, and Pacquiao did the same. I can't wait until Nonito gets a crack at Darchinyan or Montiel.
I think Zab hits harder, and Chico probably a bit harder than that. The thing is, Chico never really landed flush, and he really did look drained as fuck. But Zab and Corley were able to hurt Floyd, so I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Gay Marquez did too.
I don't like the fight either, I've become a real fan of Gay Marquez recently. He looked fucking good smashing both Casamayor and Diaz in consecutive fights.
There is nothing wrong with that. As long as you admit it. You are right, this is a great time for boxing. but if ricky hatton had won the fight, dominating pac with amazing head movement and a clear change in his style, boxing fans would say the same thing. But you, would be gone for months.
I'd still watch Nonito and Viloria and other Pinoy champs, but Pacquiao is a once in a lifetime occurrence. A lot of people, pinoy or not, would probably enjoy boxing a lot less if Pacquiao were utterly obliterated. Some people before the fight thought it would be bad for boxing if Pacquiao lost, so it's not just me. We should ALL be glad he's here, not just me.
If pac lost to the wreckless ricky who basically hits and holds, i agree. It would be bad. But if ricky's style was completely different and he actually looked terrific because of Floyd, then i would be excited. The posibilities would be great.
Oh so now you're just looking out for Marquez, glad to see him get the big fights eh? Not glad your hero managed to pull yet another small guy up in weight. ::
:::: IMO Marquez beat Pac at least once......but yeah I don't want none of Marquez let me jump up a few divisions and fight/destroyed these two much bigger guys..maybe fight Cotto or Mosley to end it off..you know cause i'm afraid of Marqueez.....yeah.....
Pac isn't small? He started at a lower weight class then JMM did. JMM flew all the way to the Phillipines to call out Manny for the rematch but he fought David Diaz instead. Pretty much all the ringside writers had Marquez beating Pac in the rematch.
Nothing at all wrong with this being Floyd's comeback fight. It's a better opponent than most would face first fight back.
Some pics of the press conference http://www.411mania.com/siteimages/dsc_0156_19596.jpg http://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01395/floyd_mayweather_1395891c.jpg http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Media2/ReM_Floyd_Juan_GV.jpg
I agree, there doesn't seem to be this huge difference. Maybe it'll be different in the ring. Some of these fights in recent years, which have been said going in to be some big size difference, haven't turned out to be.
As far as size is concerned, Casamayor is good point for comparison. Juan eventually beat the shit out of him, but I thought the size difference between him and JMM was pretty noticeable. Mayweather is a little taller than Casa. But compared to Joel, Floyd is stockier, more solid physique-wise. And I think come fight time, we'll be seeing the difference. In fights like this, size represents an advantage in a way that it could significantly negate the skill differential between two guys who have it. We all know how good both Marquez and Mayweather are, but if JMM doesn't have the heft to get Floyd's respect or if he couldn't take what heat Mayweather is going to lay on him, then it's going to be very difficult. I'll be rooting for Marquez to win though.
What people aren't lookin at is, basically Floyd wins on speed defense and accurate counter punches... Yes early I think he beats up Marquez close and competive but clear... But as the rounds go by...Marquez is not an idiot, when Mayweather is on the ropes he is going to see the most intellgent boxer he has ever faced pounding his liver his ribs, uppercuts and straight right hands... He will adapt he will make this a fight, he WILL HIT Mayweather...flush...how many have done this? I can name very few, and the 2 I can think of in the top of my head with decent power is Judah and Corley... Mayweather will be hit hard, and often...we will see what this layoff will do...and how his legs will be. I dunno if its enough to beat Mayweather but Marquez definately has enough to pull off the upset, or at least make this very very competitive.
Good point. I would rather see this fight than Floyd against some handpicked 140 lb - 147 lb journeyman.
at first I really saw this as a mismatch as much as I like and respect JMM. But I've noticed that alot of people are giving JMM a good chance here. Maybe not to win but to really trouble Floyd. the more I think about it I just keep thinking that Floyd has to make a statement with this fight. The same way Pacquiao destroyed Oscar and Hatton better than Floyd I think Floyd wants to destroy JMM who has arguably beaten Pacquiao twice. I just think Floyd will really try to finish JMM and that extra motivation will really play a part in this fight.
