Last time I saw him was against a green Mundine who beat him.
If I remember correctly, he was LITERALLY shot.

I agree but he did have one hell of a punch. I remember he stunned Hopkins when they fought. If I remember correctley they fought 2 times.

Echols is Shot.........and yes, he used to be a pretty tough opponent for a short stretch years ago. Raw but tough and strong with a great punch........a style that doesn't age very well.

Only Hopkins detractors will say otherwise.

Yeah. That was evidenced by Hopkin's incessant holding and hitting. Especially in the second fight.

I do think one of Hopkins best performances in which he truly showed skills and not just holding was his first bout with Echols. Didn't Echols knock him down after the bell? In any case I was impressed with Hopkins slipperyness on the ropes and his sharp counters in that fight. In fact, I think it was around about the time Trinidad was terrorizing the 154 division and it seemed to me Hopkins would be the only fighter near or around his division who could beat him.

But in retrospect, Echols is a pretty crummy fighter and most of all very predictable without a jab to speak of. So it comes as no surprise that it one of Hopkin's most impressive wins (of course his subsequent wins over Tito and Tarver were more impressive but aesthetically Hopkins looked really good in his first fight with Echols).

Actually I think Echols was a decent fighter. He wasn't a champ but he gave champs hard times. :dunno:
