it can be. if you're working on hand-speed and foot-work it can be like jumping rope which cardiovascular-wise is more taxing than jogging.
It's not all that absurd really....he had a minor back injury, but carried on training....and that minor injury turned into a proper injury....by carrying on training he was putting extra strain on his back, and it took its toll as he threw a hook while shadow boxing. He's had it before, and it has flared up again. Shit happens, too bad that it happened just a few weeks before the biggest night of his life.
It's a tricky one this, to be sure. One the one hand, it sounds riduculous. Back injury shadow boxing? :: Your first instinct is "bullshit". But on the other hand, if he's had a legit back injury before, it is possible it could be re-ignited by something relatively minor. AND, if it was completely fabricated, wouldn't they think of something less ridiculous? :: The fact that it sounds so silly, sort of makes me think it must be true, otherwise they would make the injury sound more hardcore. Another big possibility is the rumour that someone mentioned. Haye is not a stupid man, if he thought there was a chance he wouldn't get paid, he's not going to risk it. Incidentally, I had no idea Setanta was about to go bust, is that really true?
The most probable reason for Haye pullout imo is that, as some others mentionned, he doesn't want to risk not getting paid. You can't medically prove a back injury, so everytime I hear about one falling at an opportunate moment, I do get supscious. Though I don't blame him, he shouldn't fight if he's gonna get paid peanuts for this fight, Wlad really act like a real pos for lowballing him this way
I work for Sky TV and I sincerely hope Setanta stay afloat as they have been the best thing to happen in years for UK boxing fans in terms of coverage. Sky are absolutely shocking with their coverage when it comes to big bouts in the US which don't feature a British fighter.
Totally agree. Boxing on SKY is shite - putting Khan PPV so early on in his career is a prime example.
I agree totally. The thing is, Setanta is great for fans of all sports...i'll watch the football, boxing, UFC and athletics and come away with the feeling that i am getting value for money. Setanta's problem is that the vast majority of people are only interested in the football....and for that alone, is it worth it?......i don't think it is. As for the pay isssue....i don't think, with a contract in place, that Haye would have passed up on this opportunity for that reason. If that was the reason, then surely he'd have waited a lot longer before pulling the plug?....why 3 weeks from the fight?....might as well let it run until days before the fight in the hope that setanta could strike deals or find a buyer.
maybe pull it sooner than later so he could arrange a more reliable new fight in shorter order if the current deal goes south? Of course, a match-up with Vitali isn't exaxctly a reliable proposition either given his penchant for injuries (allegedly) during training. But those seemed only to occur when he was scheduled to face Rahman for some reason. It seems ludicrous to suggest that Vitali would've been afraid of Rahman of but it sure seemed that way, didn't it? Maybe he was weary of Rahman's at that time new found sluggish grappling tactics.
Setanta Sports, for all their faults, are the best thing to happen in British Boxing for near 20 years. Tons and tons of fights, British and elsewhere, for a tenner a month. Their going under would be a real shame... MTF
i don't think he'd give up the possibility of Setanta getting their act together, for the sake of getting a week or two head start on arranging another fight. It now looks like Setanta may be saved afterall, so he'd have made a mistake if they were the motivations behind pulling out. Besides everything else, what is wrong with just coming out and saying he won't fight cos he won't get paid?.....many fighters publicly squabble over 50-50/60-40 splits As for Vitali-Rahman. I doubt very much that Vitali was running scared. Retiring for nearly 4 years is a pretty elaborate way of ducking someone.
Undoubtedly, but to be honest, had they simply left PL football alone, they would have been fine and dandy. Personally (and as a boxing fan), I wish that they had done so. MTF
