Seems like Cotto is leaning towards adding Manny Steward to his corner for the November war with Pacman..!When he was asked about the addition he said "i need to do whats best for my preparation"...

    Opinons?

He loves his team just is willing to upgrade because of all the errors he noticed during the fight...

Nice GIF as your signature. The power slam. Clottey really pissed me off with that cheating BS.
The ref are excellent. "Act like a champion" "suck it up"

I think Steward is an improvement but I'm not sure he's the right man for the job.

If you noticed Mercante originally said act like a man first. He then clearly realized that was inappropriate, then he said champion.

It wasn't a surprise. Mercante did let Beethoven Scotland die in the ring many years back by not stopping the fight sooner. He's a terrible ref.

Steward has done little for nobody for years. He hasn't improved anybody recently. Bad choice by Miguel if he makes Steward his trainer.

Ah. Cotto's going to learn how to clinch. So much for the entertaining version of Cotto. We're going to see a hit and hold Cotto for now on. Thanks Steward.

Steward has improved Wlad in one respect and one respect only. He's taught him how to drape his huge body on his smaller opponents in order to neutralize their offense and sap their strength and control the pace of the fight.

Lewis was a brave dude who wouldn't back down from any challenge. But late in his career he did an awful lot of holding and some of his fights become very boring. Even his fight with Tyson was a tedious stop and start affair if you ask me.

His first fight with Holyfield was entertaining but the second was crap I thought.

Is Miguel a tall heavyweight w/ a long reach.....that Manny can make more stationary and show him how to throw a jab/right hand combo then clinch? :dunno:

Nacho would be a good trainer for Miguel....he has a long time relationship w/ Pacquiao...

In all seriousness, Nacho is the best trainer I can think of, that would be able to improve Cotto.

REED Actually Thinks this is a Pretty GOOD Choice...Manny's Always Been an OFFENSIVE Minded Trainer, so he'll Only IMPROVE Cotto in those Areas...Like it or Not, Steward DID Make Wlad a More CONSISTENT Fighter...Considering Wlad's Chin, he HAD to Become a More TEDIOUS Fighter to B Successful for the Looooooooooooooooong Haul...

After DROPPING Clottey w/a JAB, we Barely Saw Anymore from Cotto for the Remainder of the Fight...He Only Fired Right Hands when Clottey was ON the Ropes...There's IMPROVEMENTS to B Made Here...

& YES, Manny WILL Teach Cotto how to CLINCH when he's Hurt, as Opposed to that Peek-a-Boo Behind the High Gloves, Bent @ The Waist Shit...

No Guarantees, but this COULD Work...

Yes, and also taught Wlad how to jump back like a kangaroo whenever the other fellow makes the first attempt to come forward, and Wlad is unbeatable at that style thus far.

I thought Cotto was going to hire Dan Birmingham as his trainer, but I don't know if Mr. Steward is the right fit here.

In Stewards' biggest fight against a southpaw, Thomas Hearns vs. Marvin Hagler; he blew it by training Hearns to keep fighting to his right and to try to take Marvin out with the right, while he neglected for the most part sliding over to the left and cranking the hooks and double hooks to Hagler's right side.

Marvin knew what Hearns was going to do off the right side everytime after the first round of that fight.

I agree with Reed, that this could be successful. I think Manny is only going to do his best work if he's working with the best fighters. Training Vivian Harris isn't going to motivate Steward, but everyone is going to be looking at how and if Cotto improves so Manny should be motivated to do some good work here. If he takes a leave from commentating during Cotto's training, we'll know he's putting in work.

Cotto won't leave the nice hotels and gyms of florida to go to Detroit, of all places. And to listen to someone telling him what he's doing wrong, even less. He wants to stick with Joe Santiago.
