    WTF??

    http://www.primerahora.com/diario/n...mpeon_mundial_de_boxeo_alexis_arguello/311692

Managua .- The mayor of Managua and former world boxing tricampeón, Alexis Arguello, 57, died today in circumstances that Nicaragua is investigating the Police, various media reported Nicaraguans.

Channel 8 television and other media reported that apparently was a suicide, which has not been confirmed by police.

Argüello's corpse is being taken to the Nicaraguan Institute of Legal Medicine show, for this institution establishes the cause of death of the head of the municipality of Managua and former world boxing tricampeón.

Argüello was elected mayor of Managua on November 9, 2008 but his election was challenged by the opposition in Nicaragua on the grounds that these elections took place in a massive fraud.

Argüello's death was considered "a great loss for the sport in Nicaragua," because it is an athlete who gave glory to this Central American country, with eighty victories won quadrilaterals in different countries.

    Like any other mayor.

Fightnews says self-inflicted gun shot wound, maybe he pulled a Plaxico into the wrong direction.

He will be missed. Arguello was one of the classiest fighters to ever grace the fight game. I am sorry he felt the need to kill himself. I wish the urge would overtake Corey Spinks and Ivan Calderon. He was my favorite tv fighter as a very, very young child. He was a true gentleman. I wish it had not come to this for him.

A very nice guy if you met him, he was up at the Boxing Hall of Fame quite often along with Aaron Pryor, another really accommodating guy.

Unfortunately he had many demons and never quite seemed to pull himself together like Pryor eventually did.

He loved his country but the different factions there basically used him up for what he was worth to them and spit him out.

    RIP!

Indeed the classiest fighter ever. He never uttered a word to disgrace his opponents and instead praised them and stated what an honor it was to fight those guys. He will be missed. I only wish the urge to commit suicide would had overtaken FreeIke instead of Arguello.

    I'm afraid not.

Seriously though, RIP. There's no death more tragic than a suicide, IMO. The biggest tragedy of all isn't that he died but that he felt so boxed in and such a sense of despair to resort to that. Great fighter, right up there with Joe Louis among the best technical punchers the sports ever saw.

Damn, that's sad. Arguello was a great fighter and sportsman. My dad's met a lot of boxers, and has a picture with Arguello, and said Arguello was one of the nicest fighters he's met.

    A Great Loss

One of my true heroes and ring idols.

He was one of the greatest fighters ever, and my pick as the top jr. lightweight champion ever.

I watched and read everything about him I could get my hands on when I was winning in the 70's, and studied his every move and then practiced for hours, his left hook underneath and sizzling straight right hand were my favorite combo in boxing.

I had the privilege of sparring with Rolando Navarette in preparation for his fight with Alexis, and as outstanding as a fighter as Roland was, and he really hit Arguello a few times, he could not beat "Flaco de Explosivo."

Rest In Peace Brave Warrior with the Gentle Soul.

THE classiest boxer who ever stepped into the ring. Always humble and respectful of both the opponent, and more importantly.....the game of boxing.

Probably was as technically sound as any fighter I've ever seen with his personal set of skills and weaknesses.

Damn shame he had to get old,...because boxing was obviously the only thing that kept him happy and secure.

    Tragic loss.

Damn shame. Rest In Peace Alexis.

One of my all time favorites

The most beautiful puncher to watch, like a living textbook... he was the living embodiment of LEVERAGE

So brave and cool and calculating even when under the most pressure possible.

    This is absolutley horrible news.

Suicide is just about the worst thing... you always wish someone could have helped someone who's soul was so tortured

R.I.P Alexis Arguello, one of the true legends who gave more of himself in that ring than most

The sole reason I got into boxing.. I watched tapes of him when I was young, he was my dad's favorite therefore became mine, I am a tall skinny boxer just like he was, so of course he bacame a figure I wanted to be like, but most importantly the fighter he was out of the ring as well...I just can't believe he would commit suicide..
    I'm absolutely devastated...

Rooney later said that he was back home later on and woke up and started getting dressed, when his wife asked him where he was going, he looked at her incredulously and said 'I have to get ready for the fight!"

    He had forgotten...

Somebody told me he was shot in the chest. That seems rather odd for a suicide.
