Arturo Gatti Found Dead in Brazil, Possible Homicide

    By Rick Reeno

BoxingScene.com has received numerous reports coming out of Brazil that former champion Arturo Gatti, 37, was found dead in a condo he was renting in Pernambuco, Brazil on Saturday. Globo Esporte, affiliated with one of the largest television stations in Brazil, is reporting that Gatti was found by his wife Amanda when she woke up in the condo. He appeared to have been struck by some type of object to the back of head. Police are investigating the matter.

BoxingScene spoke with his lontime promoter Kathy Duva. She was unaware of the incident but confirmed that Gatti spends a lot of time in Brazil. Duva is attempting to reach Gatti's manager and those close to him to obtain more details on the incident.

More information as it comes in.

Similar circumstances to Berbick it seems. Seems like a weird thing going on this past little while with all these celebrity deaths. Most guys also don't know that french tennis player Matheiu Montcourt also died last week. Obviously no big name over here but still a pro athlete and well known in France.

The weird thing is, as soon as I read this, I imagined a more seedy scenario, I thought maybe Gatti was living over there for a while, maybe got into the drug scene, rubbed some people the wrong way or something, I don't know.

But he only arrived there Friday?? And it was a honeymoon?

Absolutely bizarre. Just some random nutcase do you think?

I never knew anything about Gatti other than what he did in the ring. He kept it pretty quiet in his personal life. Somebody had an incentive to kill him. I can't imagine it being random. Was he involved in some drug ring or something? Nobody knows I guess but it'll come out eventually.

Gatti's long had problems in his personal life. Drug and alcohol abuse, arrests, domestic abuse incidents.

He apparently had quite a temper as I remember his manager stated that he had to stop Gatti numerous times from getting into fights in the street. Gatti also had a scar on his back from being stabbed in a fight over a woman.

It'd surprise me if it was random too.

Speechless. It's possible that my interest in boxing beyond the heavyweight division never takes off with Gatti.

    R.I.P. Gatti

Boxingscene reports his new wife is a suspect. Maybe she smacked him over the head, while he was sleeping.

If you are trying to imply that Gatti was a bum,...or trying to make light of his death.....then you are pathetic.

Your mom is a whore and your dad is a fag.

    How do you like that?

I'm surprised, but not shocked. Gatti was always easy to hit.

Damn, that was unexpected. He was a gutsy fighter. Not a good defensive fighter, but he had power in both hands and he was always up for a good slugfest.

If his wife is a suspect, I wonder why? It was their honeymoon.

I'm fine with that, I'm still alive unlike Arturo.
