How popular he is? by the number of fans he has we can measure his popularity. Right now Facebook has surpassed myspace as the #1 site for people to put their profiles and contact others etc. and become fans of celebrities. While checking all the Floyd Mayweather Jr. home pages, the one with more fans was the one that looked more legit, with 911 fans. Then I checked Felix Tito Trinidad's page...9,375 fans! *gulp! a longtime former champ now retired boxer has more fans!* Lets check Manny Pacquiao: the two with most fans, one with 145, 826 the other with 100,980 fans and that's just two of dozens of Pacquiao pages. Hmmm...Miguel Cotto: 43,240 fans. Gee, is this a Facebook conspiracy against Money Mayweather or the guy really doesn't have that many fans?
Sounds just about right to me. You would have to be pretty maladjusted to be a fan of Floyd Mayweather.:shit:
Why are you insulting me? I just brought the facts. Go check yourself facebook's numbers and then come back here and tell me if was making this up.:flip:
Nobody really loves Floyd but EVERYONE wants to see him fight and hopefully lose soon enough. That's why he gets great numbers on PPV and stuff which works pretty good for him I think.
Mayweather got 2 very good number in PPV fight because #1 he got a hell of a lot of publicity..hbo..wwe...dancing w/ teh stars.....#2 he fights other popular fighters...DLH/Hatton. Mayweather vs. Marquez sells where how bad? Bad enough that they had to postponed the fight till a mexican holiday...
I just checked. You must have gotten the wrong page. Floyd Mayweather Jr has 42,517 fans on Facebook as of right now. I just happened to check up the stats on some other athletes to see their popularity on Facebook. Check it out: Swimming star Michael Phelps has 2,581,628 fans on Facebook. Tennis star Roger Federer has 2,355,783 fans on Facebook. Tennis star Rafael Nadal has 1,894,686 fans on Facebook. NBA star Lebron James has 933,646 fans on Facebook. Golf star Tiger Woods has 840,155 fans on Facebook. WWE star John Cena has 58,084 fans on Facebook.
Oh, my bad. Which page that was? or you combined the numbers of ALL the floyd pages together? Still...that means that he has less fans than Cotto and three times less than Pacquiao.:bangh:
MJ had a few facebook accounts devoted to him but from the one I saw, he has 8,833,709. 4 times that of anybody in the list I posted.
I don't know about Mayweather. But everyone seems to have heard of Merryweather. That's not to say they've every bothered to watch him fight, or that they're fans of him, or even know what he looks like. They don't even seem to know his name. I think the success of his every event has depended on the opponent he's faced. And that the opponents he's faced agree to fight him for one reason and one reason only: because he's hugely over-rated presenting opponents like Gatti, Hatton and ODH with a no lose situation - if they lose they lost to a perceived invincible fighter. If they win, they're suddenly the only fighter on the planet to have beaten him. So to sum up, Mayweather is not a household name. He relies almost entirely on the fame of his opponents to draw. And it's why we'll never see him in a fight with the likes of Clottey or Mosley in which the weight will be on his shoulders to draw. You might say, well how do you explain that ODH's biggest PPV numbers came against Merryweather. Well, because if the public knows one thing about Mayweather (and it's not his name) it's that he's unbeaten and perceived as being invincible (although they've never bothered to watch him and aren't tuning in to do so but rather to see their favorite fighter like Gatti, Hatton or ODH go up against a reportedly unbeatable opponent). Merryweather has nothing going for him except his unbeaten record. If he loses that, he'll have to start fighting real opponents once again, he won't draw flies, just as he didn't at 135 and below, and my guess is he'll have little success fighting the top guys in their prime at 147. And if he does, it'll mean his winning in boring as hell fashion, which will do nothing to fill in for his old ticket, the undefeated record of his. It's one of the reasons he's fighting JMM. JMM is no Hatton, ODH or Gatti when it comes to selling tickets. But it is a guy small enough that PBF can afford to take chances ala the N'dou fight and convince the naive public that he's an exciting fighter. I guess he is exciting when he's fighting guys smaller than him, or guys he's as strong as, but when it comes to the contenders in his division today, he probably can't beat them, let alone in exciting fashion.
