A 110 lb chick who stabs you in the back of the skull with a kitchen knife while you're already passed out from alcohol. No man would survive.

I am not surprised at all. I am a huge fan of the guy in the ring, but Gatti was no saint. In fact, he was basically a thug. The lack of respect ON A BOXING FORUM, is what is troublesome. The man gave fans whatever they wanted in the ring. I am as surprised to here that he met a grim end as I will be when Tyson ends up dead, already 10-15 years overdue.

If you read one of my posts earlier in this thread, I had more or less the same thoughts.

It is kind of sad, and just strange and ironic.

And damn, what a stupid bitch. She kills her husband and now goes to prison, great idea, awesome plan, really well thought out

I can sort of understand something being in the heat of the moment, say when he shoved her to the street, if she had, I dunno, shot him in the head right there and then I'd think fair enough, crime of passion.

But she had a few hours to cool down, then killed him while he was passed out, I mean wtf?

From the sounds of it gatti wasn't a very nice person.

Tyson however, is less troubled than he used to be, and has chilled out a lot.

    He's become more normal now.

    I love Tyson :mj:

When was the last time you heard of Tyson being involved in an altercation outside of the ring? It's been some years now. He's a family man now who takes care of his children and stays away from the sh*t he used to be involved with when he was care-free.

    Indeed.

Ike, that was clearly not a well thought out opinion.

I notice Tyson these days is almost always dressed in a suit and tie. He's changed his image. He's also philosophical now and knows finally his place in society even if he admits that there's no place in society for him. When you have 6 or so children, you understand your place in society afterall. Being a father and raising your children as a father should do.
That's what will keep him going and he seems to have a very good relationship with his children. He's no longer taking trips to Cuba and trying out different ways of getting all drugged up like he used to.

I was shocked and was really sad when I heard this...he seemed like a nice enough guy around boxing and he was probably my favorite fighter of all-time.

Came here because this forum is the place to get news and different sides of a story; I did not know he was an abuser of women. Makes me not care much about his passing. I thought he was much better than that.

No, you are just ignorant on this issue. He did time for cocaine less than 2 years ago. I am a fan of Tyson too but he will be dead very soon.He is and shall always be an unmitigated disaster. Not only that, Mike Tyson is not a good person either. I like him as an interview and his style in his prime. In fact, I wouldn't like Boxing were it not for him. He is still a scumbag and his story will not end well although I think no matter how you slice it Gatti's story ended worse.

The women were prostitutes, hookers and strippers. Mainly their only purpose in the world is to get f*cked for cash and maybe slapped around if they do a bad job.

I doubt any high profile boxers are "good people." I mean, basically boxing is a criminal activity that is legalized for 36 minute intervals. You get women, money, fame and rewarded for beating ass. Diego Corrales seemed a kindly fellow. He was polite. He even called Jaws back for an interview because he told him in the previous conversation he was tired and the guy called him back. Still, he dragged his pregnant lady down a flight of stairs beating and kicking her. A respect for a fighter should be based solely what they do in the ring. Even Arguello almost blew his head off in front of his son. Nice, polite well adjusted people don't want to render men unconscious for a living, sorry to burst your bubble.

He had his problems but he was obviously a guy that was well liked.HBO loved him and almost all boxing writers did, except Jake. Jake also likes Vivian Harris so his judgment is obviously flawed. The one time I ever agreed with the idiot known as Floyd Mayweather Junior is when he told HBO to be fair and cover Gatti's numerous run in with the law and domestic violence. Ironically, it also eliminated PBF's so called "Street Cred" when he cried like a little cunt and ratted Gatti out. I always rooted for Gatti and he was one of my favorites in the ring. I am not saying he was an evil guy either, but he was a pretty violent person with pretty poor judgment.

He's a f*cking boxer, his job is to try and kill people. Of course he's going to be a violent person, Ike. Not everybody can be like Lennox Lewis and the Klitschkos outside the ring. Although if you look at their fighting styles, you can see it reflects their character quite well as opposed to Gatti who seemed to live for the thrill of taking or giving a bloody beating.

legacy tainted? Bullsh*t! The bitches he had around him were f*cking street trash, basically whores who probably drugged men in their hotel rooms and stole their belongings. It's not like he went around picking fights with women and beating them up for the hell of it.

U PERSIST N Saying this, but it's BULLSHIT...Arturo Gatti was a BOXER...His Legacy is Predicated on what he Did IN THE RING & NATHAN More...

Chico Corrales has Been Dead for a Good While Now & All ANYBODY Talks about is how EXCITING he Was & How they MISS Seeing him in Action...

The Same will B Said about Gatti...5 Years from Now, NOBODY Will Give a Shit that he Beat his Wife...Instead, People will Remember how ENTERTAINED they Were When he Fought...

    How is his legacy tainted?

Fans loved him for his performance IN THE RING, not his personal life. Some people don't even know about his personal life, as shown on this thread, and this is a forum for hardcore boxing fans.

Now if Gatti was some guy who's contribution to boxing was getting extra attention because he was a national spokesman for the National Coaliton Against Domestic Violence or something, then I'd agree. But his contribution to boxing was being an exciting fighter. The legacies of fighters like Diego Corrales, Alexis Arguello, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, etc...aren't affected by domestic abuse or mistreating their wives/girlfriends in some way.

Gatti should be afforded the same treatment.

Half the yuppies in my bourgeois town do coke on a regular basis, normal, middle class people with jobs etc. Doing coke is normal these days, you're acting like doing some coke is akin to being a crackhead or junkie

Mike has chilled out a lot, I think you are being ignorant.

I probably would have agreed with you a few years ago, but it seems like Tyson has finally sort of become more tame.

In all seriousness, it surprises me that he didn't spring into action when his wife started choking him. I mean he must have been a great deal stronger than her, you would have thought he would have snapped out of whatever state he was in, and thrown her off or something. He must have been absolutely paraletic, surely.

I guess so, but I just would have thought your raw survival instinct would take over in a situation like that, and you'd manage to overcome your comatose state.

Gatti has a legacy of an exciting fighter but I fear his early death will cause him to be remembered more fondly than he should.

I'd already had issues with those thinking he was a Hall of Fame guy (he isn't) but after this I wouldn't be surprised to see him make the hall in his first year of eligibility (which is 2012).

I liked the guy, but he wasn't Hall of Fame material. If he is, then a guy like Fernando Vargas is and as much as I was a 'Nando fan...he's not worthy either.

I'll never forget my one and only trip to the Hall of Fame...was a month or so after one of the Ward fights...Gatti didn't make it but Ward was there. I remember being PISSED when walking into the museum.

Gatti's robe from the first Ward fight was displayed BETWEEN the robe, trunks and shoes Marvin Hagler wore when he won the middleweight title and between a robe and shoes Ali wore (forget which fight). That ALONE caused me to root for ass kickings from then on out.

He was what he was...a hard-nosed guy who gave it his all and a fan favorite. However, he was never among the greats or an elite fighter. I'd say Ray Mancini 2.0 (and Mancini has no business in the Hall of Fame either)

You think renting a prostitute gives you the right to slap her around? :nono:

    .............That's her pimps job.

From what I remember about that incident was, some guy called Chico pretending to be his wife's lover and he immediately went balistic and started beating the shit out of her without even asking her anything, while she was pregnant. I remember during Chico's next fight HBO had reported that it was the guy he was fighting, Justin Juko who had done it.
