July 22 - Kermit Cintron has caught wind of Shane Mosley’s struggles to make a fight, and like the rest of the boxing world, he doesn’t want to see “Sugar†Shane sit on the shelf for the rest of the year. So, Kermit wants Shane and the rest of the world to know he is ready to step up and make a fight between two of the world’s best welterweights. http://fightbeat.com/news_details.php?NW=22142
I can see why. Despite having lost to Margarito twice, he's definitely a better fighter defensively, and as it turns out, he hits harder too. And he's tall and is not afraid to mix it up which I think will help him against Mosley who tends to load up even if he does have impressive hand-speed. I know he's not as talented or as experienced as Forrest was when he defeated Mosley, but he is long like Forrest and fights in a style not unlike Forrest's as far as using his 1-2 and showing hooks and upper-cuts when the openings are there. Margarito, it turns out, cannot fight going backwards. At least not very well. But I think Cintron can. And that will work to his advantage against the very aggressive Mosley. Plus, Mosley's penchant for clinching his opponent won't help him because Cintron will want to stay outside anyways. Against Margarito, it worked perfectly as far as moving Margarito back and stunting his forward momentum. But Margarito fighting off his heal was an easy puzzle for Mosley to solve. I'm not so sure it will be when it comes to Cintron.
I personally don't think Shane should waste his time with this fight. Cintron offers nothing for Shane and even in the press release quotes, Cintron doesn't sound confident of himself winning the fight. Saying things like "right now it makes sense," "it's a big risk", and "it's the one fight easily availble for both of us" doesn't sound like Cintron is brimming with confidence. If anything I think he's just trying to get a decent payday. I don't understand why Cintron would go after Shane rather than someone who I'd actually give him a shot at beating in Berto. Mosley is way too tough for Cintron who hates it to the body and is an overrated puncher. With the way Cintron has to constantly think before every move he makes, and his softness I think if Shane came out and went at him real hard he could stop Cintron in 2 or 3 rds. I think Shane could probably ruin Cintron and this is just a bad idea for him to pursue this fight. There are 4 welters I give Cintron zero chance of beating. Cotto, Mosley, Margarito and Clottey.
You gotta give cintron credit. This dude isn't scared to fight the best. Margarito makes him cry. He wants a rematch. Say what you want, but he's got balls.
Mosley will gave him a beating. Kermit has more chances with Berto. He can KO him in a fight where he will be behind in all scorecards!:: Anyway, I prefer to watch Mosley fight Berto...or anybody else but Cintron. Kermit should challenge Daniel "Rusty" Santos instead.
