I wouldn't be totally sure of that. Williams doesn't always fight as a long armed boxer from distance. In fact, not taking the Winky fight into account--because I didn't see it--the only fight I recall PW boxing smartly in was against Margarito.

Every other fight PW was in he brawled rather recklessly. Now I'm not saying he would do that against Shane, but the odds are actually pretty good that he would. If he did, he makes that fight a lot more closer on paper than most people would think.

The target date for Berto-Mosley is supposedly December 5th.

Update from BoxingScene...looks like it might either be Pavlik-Williams or Mosley-Berto this year, but not both...but that it could end up in the first quarter of next year.

Mosley (Clottey, Cintron) and Berto (Hlatshwayo) could face other opponents this year.

    Does Cintron own a belt?

Doesn't matter, Clottey doesn't so I think Shane should definitely take a tune up and fight Cintron and earn himself another highlight reel KO for his colection rather than kill himself in a life & death 12rd struggle with Clottey.

This is hilarious. Berto is such a paper tiger it's funny. What has he done? Cintron a tune-up for Berto? Clottey a tune-up for Berto? Both Cintron and Clottey are better than Berto. Berto can't box at all. He has speed and that's about it. So typical. Mosley will apparently be fighting yet another quality opponent while Berto continues to fight on HBO against anyone but the best. Typical DiBella ride.

Well where did you read that they said Cintron or Clottey would be tuneups for Berto? They said that for Mosley, but said the only consideration for Berto was Hlatshwayo.

Also I'm not convinced Cintron is better than Berto. Berto may not be the most fluid boxer but at least he does have talent and toughness which is a hell of a lot more than you can say about Cintron who really has nothing more than decent power and an extremely overrated stature in the sport. I think I'd slightly lean towards Berto in a matchup between the two.

Wow they offered 3.2 mill. Shane was on Versus network saying how fighters are bitching about money and not fighting. Shane is the biggest hypocryte in the sport right now, turning down a more than genorous offer to fight nobody.

I don't normally respond to your biased lifetime anti-Mosley posts, but just try to take into account that Shane wasn't going to get the whole 3.2 mil.

Yes i know this but 3.2 mill to split is more than genorous to Berto and Shane.

Floyd is right, Shane is the worst business man in the sport and right now the biggest hypocryte.

Shane needs to fight somebody this year or he will finish 2009 with just the Margarito win which would be sad considering what that win means at 147

I agree with Lb 4 Lb Mosley should fight Cintron and score a devastating KO. Because even if he beats Clottey he won't look good doing it.

As far as Berto you can't blame the guy he has had bigger paychecks than what he is offered on this split. Why would you fight Mosley for less money? Stepping up your competition should come with a bigger purse not the other way around.

But in my opinion Berto needs to rematch Collazo instead of looking elsewhere.

They could prop Vernon's dead hand out in a jab position and Mosley would still walk into it all night long.

I wasn't clear. What I meant was, how is Cintron or Clottey a tune-up for Mosley in preparation for Berto? Cintron and Clottey are at least as good as Berto, and probably better. My point is, why or how has Berto established himself? The answer is: Dibella promotions. Translation: he's established himself by beating a bunch of guys on HBO who were smaller than him.

It's obvious Shane ain't going near Clottey way to dangerous with too little reward.

Yeah but that's Mosley's signature. He's made a career out of taking on guys he's not supposed to look good against. Or in some cases beat. Sometimes it's paid off with a victory, sometimes a loss. But it always pays off as far as defining Shane as the warrior that he is.

But I agree that Clottey's style is wrong for Mosley. So is Cintron's too in that he's rangy and likes to box off his back foot. Ironically, Berto is the easiest of the three guys out there for him. That's why I can't understand anyone's acting like Cintron or Clottey would be good tune-ups for Mosley in preparation for a Berto fight. He'd make easy work of Berto.

    That's nothing.

Shane turned down 12 MILLION for a third fight with Oscar, then gets his butt kicked for a tenth of that.

As I have stated before, Shane Mosley has turned down more money than any fighter in history.

Money may not be that important to Shane, and I fear his ex cleaned him out to a good degree.

Yeah, but whoever said use Clottey/Cintron as a tuneup for Berto? I said use them as a tuneup but not for Berto. Assuming Shane fights one of those guys now, I think that pretty much means he won't fight Berto because his next matchup would hopefully be against one of the top 3 at welter. I'm also not sold on Berto being an easier fight than Cintron for Shane. Cintron is way too soft and the only reason Berto isn't ahead of him in this regard is because of Berto's questionably shakey chin. I really think a Berto-Cintron fight should be made and I have no idea who wins that one but it's one of the few Cintron fights I'd like to see happen other than an Angulo rematch.Likewise Shane should stay away from Clottey because he couldn't make anymore off of that (harder) fight than he could with a Berto fight. Clottey brings in zero dollars as he couldn't even manage himself into a PPV opponent for Cotto.

Speaking of Berto he appears to be trying to wriggle out of the Collazo rematch. I just read an interview on boxingtalk where Collazo wants that rematch and is awaiting the purse bid. He claims Berto is trying to get out of the fight and knowing Berto it's not a surprise.

    Shane will sodomize Berto

I'd pick him to whup Clotty

he should not fight Williams, Williams has a good chin, is very active and is tall

Williams is about to get STRETCHED by Pavlik though

Dan Rafael reporting that Richard Schaefer says Mosley is locked in for December 5th at the MGM Grand and that if Mosley-Berto can't be made it will likely be Clottey:

Understandable. I didn't want Mosley to take this fight, but he has to move on with his career, especially being 38. Berto's people never would have put him in with Shane anyway. I think Shane should be able to beat Clottey, hell he might even stop him.

Nazim is going to really have to come up with a fight plan, and I think that plan should be body, body, body, and please for the love of god try to teach Shane how to better avoid the jab.
