Ward, Dirrell and Escobedo were generally considered the more promising prospects from that group. Escobedo, 21-1, 13 KO's, is scheduled to take on Michael Katsidis September 19th on the Mayweather-Marquez PPV undercard. He's on a solid run with consecutive wins over Dominic Salcido, Carlos Hernandez and Kevin Kelley. Ward, 19-0, 12 KO's, stepped up earlier this year with a UD 12 over Edison Miranda. He's scheduled to take on Shelby Pudwell on Showtime September 12th on the same day Mikkel Kessler faces Gusmyl Perdomo to set up a showdown on Showtime two months later. Dirrell, 18-0, 13 KO's, is set to take on Carl Froch on October 17th on Showtime. Martirosyan, 25-0, 16 KO's, has been busier than the aforementioned prospects, but he's no further along. He's coming off a win over Andrey Tsurkan, and is scheduled to fight Pawel Wolak on October 10th on a Top Rank PPV. Can't really call this that much of a step up, but considering who he's been fighting and where he's fighting, it's a move up. The Team:
Also, winning the USA trials but not making it thru the America's qualifiers were: 119 Robert Benitez who lost in the qualifiers to JuanMa Lopez and Argenis Mendez and 125 Mickey Bey Jr. beat Brandon Rios in the USA box-off Of the group Ron Siler has to be the biggest bust. And I always like to point out that Vanes had to go thru Andre Berto to make it to Athens.
