I did get my monies worth. I paid for and got to watch 2 great great fighters put it on the line. Yeah it was a mis-match but I was still intrigued. No one knew how the inactivity was gonna effect PBF. No one knew if the alleged rib injury was gonna have an effect on PBF. Hell in JMM no one knew that he was gonna be shut and dominated in the manner in which he was. No one ever expected him to get dominated for the first time in his career. Lemme change my respone from we to me. I didn't know what was gonna happen. Wit JMM being one of the greatest technical fighters of this era and best second half adjusters I thought that he might have been able to make adjustments and push PBF. However that wasn't the case ane I was very entertained. I'll Holla 5000

If that was entertaining to you then that is great. It's just not for me. I personally predicted an easy win for Floyd so nothing about the outcome was surprising to me at all.

The fewer buys there is, the better for boxing. If PBF managed to make great numbers fighting a featherweight, what will keep him from fighting another?

Nothing, and he will do it for as long as stupid fans keep eating that shit up. It's a joke. Boxing sucks now. I used to love boxing, now I can't hardly stand it anymore. There are no good fights, the so-called stars don't give a shit about the fans. It's the deception business. As long as they can fool fans into buying garbage they will continue to serve it up.

exactly, JMM-Mayweather was garbage, worst of all, it robbed boxing fans of great matchups ( Valero-Marquez for example ) and other less know boxer gets fucked too ( imagine how big Valero would be if he had managed to beat Marquez or even give a good account of himself )

Who has Valero beat to deserve a Marquez fight? Marquez deserved the payday and Mayweather deserved a fight with the potential of not being so easy for his comeback...Stop your bitching!

I've go to admit I'm shocked that the fight did near 1 million buy, didn't thought PBF was that much of a draw ( thought I doubt these numbers are legit )

    Thank you.

Size difference aside, PBF shut out one of the great in ring technicians of our era and did it after a 2 year layoff. To me, thats impressive.

People just don't appreciate boxing skills anymore I guess.

Marquez is not a big draw but he is not as unknown as you'd like to make him seem.

pacquiao's biggest ppv fight before Oscar was the Marquez rematch since you brough it up.

After 3 Morales fights and 2 Barrera fights - both of them guys being more popular than Marquez and JMM still sold more on the rematch.

Right after the Marquez rematch Pacquiao fought David Diaz and the sales were about half the sales from the rematch.

So even if Marquez is not a big draw he is not as irrelevant as you make him out to be.

The night of the fight I went to a casino to watch it as I refuse to buy PPV's. There was a pretty good crowd early on but by the main event the place was packed. It was almost like being at a real fight (I guess) as you had a quarter of the crowd cheering for JMM and booing Floyd and the majority of the crowd booing JMM and cheering Floyd. Me? I just clapped for both guys since I'm a fan of both.

By the middle rds though I found myself getting pissed at the thought of this farce that was happening before my eyes. I mean I was actually getting pissed that JMM career was being shortened by this farce. I started willing JMM to stay away and clinch more and even started hoping he would quit on his stool at some point while also praying he would finish the match on his feet to prevent Floyd from getting a KO.

Z keeps saying nobody fights for their legacies anymore but there are a few guys who do. I think Cotto, Pacquiao, Mosley, and even JMM all fight for their legacies first. I also believe Floyd will fight the winner of Cotto-Pacquiao because to be honest they're both 2 of the easiset top teir welterweight fights out there for him and I doubt he fears either guy. If there is anyone he fears it's probably Shane.

Well to be fair REED in California the reason that PPV was bought was because Marquez is mexican, trust me...300,000 of those buys were cuz of Marquez, thats for damn sure...

mexicans supported marquez because he was FIGHTING MAYWEATHER.

i doubt marquez could pull over 50k if he were to fight terdack or jaca.

i noticed that a lot of my friends who doesn't even follow boxing ordered the fight just because mayweather was fighting. some of them were girls who had zero interest in boxing period and never even heard of marquez.

mayweather can't draw like oscar fighting guys like wilfredo rivera or yori boy campas, but right now, if he were to fight a guy like collazo or berto, he would still pull 400k + if not more.

Hey REED get off his nuts for one second, you do know that hispanic fans are the most delusional fans in the history of the sport right? You do know how we get behind our fighters...Marquez is the best mexican in the sport right now, trust me...90% of California bought that PPV because they wanted to see a mexican beat Mayweather...if you can't even admit that, then there is seriously something wrong with you.

And I have said many of times my heart gets in the way of my picks, but if you would have seen any other prediction other than what I hoped for I figured Mayweather would win, I even put money on him.
Its kind of like me bein a Yankees fan...but I will put money on the Angels to always win the series with them...its a win win for me...its the same thing...

According to the media fight coverage even the site where the fight was held wasn't completely sold out and there were many empty seats before the main event fight started. :p

Read the thread, I already mentioned there was empty seats. Considering I was there I would probably notice.

I should not make a blanket statement like that I admit. You are right about the guys you mentioned. It pisses me off to see a guy as talented as Floyd squander his best years with stupid fights.

It wasn't sold out, and the reports of how well the tix were moving leading up to it weren't good, but sometimes there's a disconnect between the buys and the attendance.

Floyd's last 3 fights have done very well PPV. At some point it has to be more than who he is fighting...he has something to do with it as well.

Both Schauffer and Arum have said that UFC numbers that have been given for UFC 100 are BS. Until proven otherwise Mayweather-Marquez is the top PPV this year.
