The chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions said today he has "finalized" a deal to match Pomona's Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) versus Andre Berto (26-0, 19 KOs) in a world welterweight title unification bout on Jan. 30 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Richard Schaefer said he expects contracts to be signed this week.

Mosley, who aspires to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. and/or Manny Pacquiao, had a TKO victory over Antonio Margarito earlier this year.

Schaefer also told The Times on today that Bernard Hopkins will fight Enrique Ornelas on Dec. 2 in Philadelphia. If he wins, as expected, Hopkins will fight Roy Jones Jr. sometime in 2010.

Hopkins really gonna fight a guy like Ornelas ???? Not that I'm complaining, he should stay sharp if he's gonna fight Roy later on ( who is scheduled to fight Green ), but it's a surprising matchup and I really doubt it will ever happens.

 

Ornelas was once with Golden Boy, not sure if he still is, but whatever the case, at light heavyweight, against Hopkins, he's well out of his league.

Interestingly, December 2nd is a Wednesday.

Same day as they Roy fight. I'm guessing they're going to package Hopkins-Ornelas with tape-delayed footage of Jones-Green. On which network, I don't know.

 

I don't know about twelve months between fights for the 38 year old.

I'm not making a prediction on the outcome yet, but Mosley and his legs are gonna look old in this fight.

Mosley vs Berto is Not Finalized, Says Lou DiBella

Contrary to some of the reports floating around, a deal for a welterweight unification bout between WBA champion Shane Mosley and WBC champion Andre Berto has not been finalized for January 30 on HBO. BoxingScene.com spoke with Berto's promoter Lou DiBella who admits the deal is very close but nothing has been finalized on Berto's end.

"I wish some of these people would have called me [before running their stories]. We are optimistic about a deal getting done and it could get done in a couple of days but as of right now - the deal is not done. It may be done on Mosley's end but it's not done on Berto's end," DiBella told BoxingScene.

"There are things that are still being discussed, talks going back and forth with HBO and a few other items. I can tell you right now, from a Berto stand point, that a deal is not done. We are optimistic about the deal getting done."

 

That's good because I still don't like this fight for Mosley. As much as I bitch that Berto won't fight anyone I still don't think this would look good if Mosley comes in and destroy's Berto. I just don't think this is a good matchup. It doesn't seem fair.

That got killed when HBO took the Dec 24th date off of Mosley's plate.

yes. If you check his Boxrec...his birth name is Andrade.

And they fought together on one of the HBO Lation Golden boy cards where it was mentioned as well.

 

Unless Shane has slipped considerably from the Margarito fight, he'll wreck that Hatian within 10.

 

He got pounded by Christian Cruz on that card.

 

GOOD Fight for Mosley...Berto's SPEED & Activity COULD Pose Problems, but 1nce Shane Nails him CLEAN, he'll Bring the Bitch Out of Berto...Berto MAY B Ahead after 3-4 Rounds, but Shane WILL Catch him & Stop him...

Bottom Line, Berto is CHINNY & Even an OLD Shane STILL has Enough Athletic Ability to PREVENT Berto from Successfully RUNNING the Entire Fight....

You know what would have been an even better fight?.. had Shane been fighting one "Fraud Mayweather" ,.. but we can't have that can we, Fraud's too important.

 

Why in the hell is Hopkins fighting a middle-weight who's lost to Bronco McKart (a junior middleweight) and a bunch of other guys nobody's heard of?

This fight is a farce.

 

Dude, Berto might beat Mosley. Not that I think he's all that, but considering Mosley's inactivity and Berto's style, I don't see that as an easy fight for Mosley. Don't get fooled by Mosley's destruction of Margarito, Margarito's weaknesses could be exploited by Mosley's strenghts. Not sure it will be the same against Berto.

Of course, I favor Mosley, but it won't be a walk in the park for him.

 

Hopkins is old and wants to stay active so he's not waiting until December to fight Roy, who may lose to Green anyway and blow the whole deal?

I like the fact that it's at Temple.

If boxing wants to get a younger demographic, there's worse ways of going about it than having some fights on campuses.

 

Shane will make Berto look like a 2 bit hooker

 

Shane will go life and death with Berto. Besides Margarito Shane has looked like shit for years.
