Believe it or not... Martinez is a harder fight for Paul than Pavlik. Martinez is a bigger, faster, more powerful Quintana.

    Now Steve Kim is reporting...

"Told that Dec5th is now a Goossen-Tutor/Heymon Boxing Organization date, so Clottey-Quintana might be pulled off, with a new opening bout"

    Please.

Martinez is an aging counter puncher who is going to struggle to go the 12 at any kind of Williams-like pace.

Paul will get a stoppage here.

I don't care about the fight being off. Pavlik should take care of his health first. Staph infections are a serious thing, you can lose a limb or maybe die because of complications related to it. Get well champ!

some of this has been real sad. i know that it is severely disappointing that the fight was postponed multiple times but the guy is injured what do you want him to do? who are you to say FUCK THE GHOST or to even insinuate he might be faking an injury in order to avoid top notch competition at middleweight?

i don't know first hand about staph infections - but i do know that the broncos first round pick in 2007, Jarvis Moss, was a star DE for Florida and he missed an entire season with a staph infection in/on his leg. Now Moss has turned out to be a bust anyway, but all of the bronco faithful were clinging to the hope that he would develop later since he missed a whole year of development in college - due to a staph infection

I have to agree. Even in Taylor I he looked pretty crappy and almost got KTFO (again, a fight that MANY a ref would have stepped in on). The fact is, I've NEVER seen Pavlik look really impressive.

What they should do is match Williams against Clottey. They both talked shit at one point claiming that one ducked the other so a matchup with them would be nice IMO.

What a pussy. Fuck that guy. Can't he come up with a better "excuse" than this to avoid top competition?

Yeah, cause I'm sure you'd just fight right through a serious infection like that. His hand looks fucking disgusting there.

Dammit some of you guys sometimes never fail to amaze me with how obtuse you are. Did i really need a wink icon in my post to get it thru your thick skull that i was being completely sarcastic - especially considering my previous post ripping EVERYONE here for dogging on Pavlik and explaining how serious a staph infection can be?

Pavlik is irrelevant at this point. I never thought he was very good, but I loved watching him fight. He got huimiliated by an old overrateed fighter and has fought Arthur Abraham level of competition since .

Williams should move to welter and dominate and force pussy boy Floyd to fight him. Staph infections are serious though. I hope Williams refuses the re-schedule. I don't think Kelly is very disappointed in not fighting Williams either. I wouldn't want to either. I can't think of a more challenging style thaN Williams'.

I didn't like this fight for Pavlik anyway, I would have watched it and it would have probably been a good scrap but it's not the smartest match making I've ever seen by any means.

Fighting Hopkins was the worst matchmaking I have ever seen. I said that before the fight. There was a 90% chance that no matter what happened Hopkins who is a negative spoiler was going to make Pavlik look bad. I actually remember thinking Hopkins would win, but I never though he would complete humiliate Kelly like he did Trinidad. After round 2 in the fight, I never had interest in Kelly again. I never thought he was very good anyway. He is an above average offensive fighter, with ok stamina, power and workrate. He also is glass chinned and can't deal with anyone that can box at all. He is basically a rich man'sd Abraham.

I hold Winky Wright in high regard, Joe Calzaghe, Vitali K, Lennox Lewis, Manny Pacquiao, . I think Ali is and was flat out overrated. I detest Sugar Gay Leotard, but I have never implied he wasn't great.

Kelly Pavlik is not a great fighter. Anyway, what is negative about that. He isn't a great fighter. I root for him and I enjoy watching him which is what I wrote in my initial posts. Not all of us can be mindless cheeleaders.

A good friend of mine had a staph infection on near his elbow and it was seriously one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. At the worst points, it was basically a whole in his skin an inch or two deep. The pain was awful and he wasn't a wimp.

Also, after taking the medication, it came back several times after he thought it was all better.

It is a serious thing. I don't think Kelly is faking it. I just don't like fighters holding up fights. If he is not 100% sure he can fight, he shouldn't sign to fight.

From what I can gather it is an impossibility to get PBF to fight a top Welter.
How would Williams crack the code?
I wonder if Floyd would have even come out of retirement if Williams hadn't moved up.

    It was bad matchmaking.
The older (canny) guys have the best of looking good against guys that aren't slick. (See Mosley-Margarito), because of experience & guile.

Everybody thinks that they've turned back the clock (untill they see them against a slick guy again-Then they're "old" once more.)

That is true. I can't think of a worse move ever, frankly. Even before the fight occurred it had little chance of working out for Kelly. Even had he won, it would have been a horrible fight. I guess Spinks/Mayorga was bad too. At the time, Mayorga was being sold as a poor man's Duran. The thinking was Spinks is a pussy and isn't tough. For me, that is exactly why you would never let that fight take place. Spinks ran and slapped to decision and Mayorga was an opponent after that.

What really sucks about this which nobody has mentioned (I don't think) is that Mosley's fight was cancelled due to the Pavlik fight.

Ike...do you really think Pavlik only has okay power? Imo, he is one of the hardest punchers in the sport.

Pavlik's heavy handed, but he's more of an accumulation puncher.
