And Floyd Mayweather, would you go up in weight and fight him? Wouldn’t his style and movement be very difficult for you? I would go to body to take away his speed. Also, hit him on the arms to lower his guard. I have faced shifty boxers like Roque Cassiani and Alejandro Heredia. Of course, they are not the level of Floyd but I really believe that once I slow down Mayweather, he will be mine for the taking. - Edwin Valero
WOW...great strategy..many have tried it...but nobody has had much success. Someone like Margarito would have been able to do that...punch..punch..punch...not worried about any incoming punch..since May doesn't throw more than 2-3 punchers in a row...Cotto might be able to do it..but will he be willin' to take the counters coming from Mayweather.. Most of Mayweather opponents get discourage since he can do soooo many things.....they go in thinking i'm going to punch his arms till they drop...BUT Mayweather doesn't stand in one spot for more than a few seconds...some are stupid enough to think they can outbox him...some one to just pressure him...but after 3-4 rounds of eating counter right hands..they kinda give up mentally and just go in half-hearten...
How do you do that?... headbutt his elbow, bite his forearm?... no,.. this is the wrong strategy,.. the right strategy, is when he rather takes the form of a coffee table, lean your lead left hand on the back of his neck in a half plumb clinch, and fucken hammerfist the bench with the other,.. and when the referee cries,.. 'Hey nar cant do dat!' .. reply... 'Can't bend your head below belt level either can you fucken incompetant moron?'... 'Sorry, only following the orders of HBO in association with golden boy promotions' ...and I think maybe we'll get some frank answers from somebody, either way.
Good post. I agree. I still think however that the best punch vs PBF is the JAB! Including to the pit of the stomach like I have been saying for years! PBF is so good that it will be very hard to consistently land punches. Like you mentioned it would take someone like Margarito who wont give a fuck about the incoming.
:atu: i agree though it would be interesting to see opponents throw at Floyd's back when it is turned...rather than just hesitate and wait until he's facing them again
Well, it's one thing for a fighter to theorise how they would beat PBF, but once they get into the ring and realize that Floyd has earned millions of dollars and participated in biggest PPVs in history, their will to fight evaporates. As simsple as that.
I think once round 1 is over they are simply bewildered on how to land a punch on him. This frustration breaks down there will as the fight goes on.
Nah, it's not that.... It's one thing to fight a fighter who makes $1000 per round, but when you're in there with a guy who makes $1 million per round, it's entirely different game. Your pre-fight plan just goes out of the window. Psychologically, Floyd's opponents just can't get used to the idea that he makes so much more money than them.
It's like this. Imagine that you sit next to your co-worker doing the same job. But he gets paid 100 times more than you do. Of course, it makes you angry and resentful, so your job performance suffers and you start doing your work less and less effectively, until your ass is fired. Same story with PBF and his opponents.
I re watched PBF/Marquez and he is so fundamentally sound I cant find anything he does wrong. As much as I dislike him I respect his skills. He's the man right now and I dont see anyone beating him at this point. Like Roger said you either get LUCKY or skills pays the bills at the end of the day!
Cotto has a chance but he dosent have the stamina to pull it off I think. If he wears down against PBF (WHICH HE WILL) he will start getting picked off and badly hammered in the late rounds. I could be wrong but Cotto has shown to slow down late.
Yeah but problem is,.. Fraud's backtwist is like a 2 metre diving apparatus, you only see that turned back for a mili second before he twists and shoots under water, you've got to spear the surface area of his back while he has nowhere else to go, just like a judge wacks his hammer on the desk to remind everyone of law and order.
I think people should fight Floyd like Froch fought Dirrell. qUITE FRANKLY, Floyd's negative illegal style must be something ridiculously hard to adjust to. I never understood why fighters didn't just 1/4 step to the right or left and hit John Ruiz with an uppercut as he ran in, pelvis gyrating, for another round of man o humping. I would pop Floyd's kidneys like balloons if he pulled that "movie theater quick duck blow job" move on me. I would also send shots to his brain stem everytime he ducked. Easier said than done I guess.
That's what Rahman did to Toney when Toney twisted and gave his back as the target. Toney suffered a lacerated kidney. Probably much harder to do to Mayweather as unlike Toney, he's real agile on his feet so he's gonna get hit less often throughout the course of the fight.
Good for Rahman. Toney deserved it. They put rules like that in for a reason. Shots to the brain stem and kidneys are highly dangerous.See if Floyd tries his illegal tactics when a ref learns the rules and enforces them properly. If Floyd complained to me, I would tell him not to put himself in a defenseless position. To me, there is nothing wrong with what Rahamn did. Toney does the same thing although in a muich more masculine fashion.
Maybe you didn't know this, but James Toney used to fight at 160. At 160, he looked like an Ethiopian. He wasn't always fat and he does use the illegal tactic from time to time. JT is an example of an exciting defensive fighter. The things he did when he was younger were flat out amazing. Unlike Pernell Whitaker, Jt really would stand right in front of his opponents make them miss and make them pay.
Are you off your nut? That's exactly the sort of thing that Cotto WOULDN'T do. Cotto is too patient, which is the main reason he'd lose to Floyd.
Oh and as much as I hate Floyd, the idea of Valero fighting him is hilarious. His chances of winning would be in minus figures.
This threads are always funny because we get to see a bunch of random boxing fans pretend we see and implement things boxers fighting their whole life and trainers training their whole life couldn't see. In a way we're saying "Hey Nacho Beristain, what the fack is up? That's not how to beat this fighters, listen to me."
Who gives a shit about what you think Rubio. If we need to ask about Oragami or how to look like a pedophile we will ask you.
