Based on whatever criteria you use to judge FOTY, give your reasons, etc.

For me based on the quality of fighters involved, and the action and grittiness of the fight throughout most of the rounds (except for the last few where Cotto just ran for his life), I think it's a good candidate.

Hell no. For four rounds yes, but for the last seven and 1/3 it was one-way traffic. Greatest performance of the year could be close though

For the first six rounds it was shaping up to rival castilo-corrales & morales-barrera 1 as fight of the decade. It petered out a bit but yeah, i'd still make it foty, and by far the most significant fight of the year

I loved it, but it wasn't competitve enough to hit my FOTY criteria. I'd be more inclined to give FOTY to something like Marquez/Diaz.

I agree, this was my thought on which would be FOTY

    Diaz/Marquez was a great fight.

For 4 rounds maybe. Once Pacman landed that rear left uppercut the fight was over. Also Pac carried him in rounds 9, 10 and 11. I don't care what he says. He looked like a vicious predator until Cotto submitted and then he took it eas-y. Therefore, no it was a very good fight and I enjoyed it but not competetive enough after the 4th round.

This Fight WASN'T Competitive Enough to B FOTY...Marquez-Diaz had ABRUPT Shifts in Momentum & a SPECTACULAR Ending....Marquez-Diaz is FOTY & REED is PROUD to Say that he Saw it IN PERSON!!!...

I am with the majority here. Diaz/Marquez was better. Not to say last night was bad. It was a good fight. It was just to one sided. A FOTY canidate cannot leave the viewer feeling sorry for one of the combatantes after 5 rounds, sorry.

Not even close. Pacq was never in danger.

Performance of the year? Arguable, but I'd go with Mosley over Margarito and Pacq over Hatton and I haven't even tried to think of other fights.

You didn't feel sorry for Tommy Hearns by the middle of the second? Seems a strange criteria that one.

Yeah I feel bad for Cotto, he's a warrior and to be honest rounds 9-11 were just Cotto taking shots. Round 12 didn't need to happen.

It was at the first but it tailed off drastically in the latter rounds. It's too bad. If it had continued the way it did into the latter rounds i would have classified it as fight of the year material.

Like most, for the first 5 rounds, it was the most exciting fight for the last couple of years...but by the end Cotto was purely just trying to survive, that's not FOTY stuff.

Marquez-Diaz and Froch-Taylor are the best fights i've seen this year.

I agree with you. Once Manny landed that left at the end of the 4th... the fight was essentailly over. It was an ass whuppin from that point on.

    Froch-Taylor was a better fight than Marquez-Diaz.

Not competitive enough IMO to be FOTY.

    I like Marquez-Diaz a lot. I didn't see Dunne-Cordoba, and I hear that was a real good fight.

    Maidana-Ortiz was really good too.

Ortiz ruined it though by quitting and then saying in essence "they don't pay me ot get punched in the face.":lol:

Diaz/Marquez is a pretty fairly obvious pick as FOY.

I'd argue that Marquez knocking out a guy that had never been stopped before is better than beating Cotto. However, it wasn't his first fight at that weight. He even did it in his opponents hometown.

    JMM > PACQUIAO :fightme:

Marquez/Diaz should be FOTY. Good scrap.

Umm... considering Cotto is light years the fighter that the Baby Cow is, I'd rate Manny's win as MUCH MUCH better.
