Hatton has had a very, very good career. He's lost only to the very best and has a number of very, very good wins. But he is done. It's time to call it a day and enjoy his retirement, rather than start fighting guys that he would have hammered a few years ago but would lose to now.

The plan is obviously a fight against Khan. Hatton is at LEAST three levels above Amir at his best, but Khan beats him at this point. He doesn't need that shit.

Juan Manuel Marquez and Ricky Hatton have begun talks to fight in Manchester, England, promoter Richard Schaefer said.

Marquez is coming off a one-sided decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September, for which he went up two weight classes.

Lazcano has always been a big puncher. And Hatton, while he survived Tszyu's punches, did so by bull-rushing him and holding. He couldn't do that against PBF or Pacquiao.

He did so against Lazcano for most of the fight.

And let's not forget the Collazo fight, that happened before the PBF and Pacquiao fights. Hatton was out on his feet in that fight too.

Point is, Hatton has never been overly durable. He's just a grappler. He's crap. He wins fights a lot like Ruiz did.

The sad thing is, I wouldn't be surprised to see Hatton beat Marquez.

 

Marquez is going to smash him with ease. He won't KO him early, like Pacquiao, but he'll make it look like Hatton doesn't belong in the same ring---which he doesn't. That will setup a third clash if Marquez is impressive.

If Hatton does come back, he needs to find himself a good trainer, who will look out for him. Floyd Sr didn't give a shit.

 

I always thought it odd that Hatton chose Floyd, sr. as a trainer. I don't believe that any fighter other than his son will get FS's very best. Then again, Hatton didn't exactly take his career seriously, either. If Hatton wouldn't even take FS's advice to quit drinking and watch his diet seriously, what difference does it make who trains him?

 

It does tell us a lot that a guy who crushed Kostya Tszyu doesn't belong in the same ring as featherweight Marquez.

 

Hatton's very professional once he's in fight camp, which for him usually starts about 12-14 weeks before the fight. Hatton's habits in between preperation for bouts probably have had their effects in terms of physical durability, but shouldn't effect his boxing per se. Reports of him getting beaten up in sparring, rifts between Mayweather and other members of the Hatton camp, and Mayweather Sr reapeatedly turning up late, amount to an all-round bad camp.

He needs a camp where everyone is behind him 100%. Mayweather Sr is more about himself, than his fighters. That's why he tells us all that he is the best trainer in the world, but where is the evidence?

Showing up for camp almost 50lbs overweight puts him way behind the eightball from the very beginning. From what I saw, Mayweather and Pac didn't show up in awful shape to begin their recent camps. Cotto didn't look bad coming in, either. To be honest, Mayweather, sr. looked in better shape than Hatton was coming into camp. While Hatton is doing his Jenny Craig thing, the competition is concentrating on fighting. Why should he expect to compete at an elite level?

Didn't Roach offer to train Hatton after the Floyd fight? I remember Roach saying after the Floyd fight that he saw weaknesses in Hatton's style that he could repair, and make him elite. I guess Roach felt slighted by Hatton's choice of a trainer, since he called Hatton "not that good" after the Pac fight. I'm assuming that the flaws that Roach saw earlier were still present for the fight with Pacquiao.

 

JMM looked like utter trash in his last fight and now he's going to have an easy time with Hatton?

I like this fight a lot. Hope it gets made.

 

You never know REED. Juan Diaz did some damage to JMM using aggression, Hatton no doubt is stronger and hits harder than baby fat. JMM is defiitely the better boxer though.

Hatton has come into camps overweight all his career, and actually, he probably didn't blow up so much inbetween the Mallinaggi and Pacquaio fights. But that's beside the point. Mayweather's job is to do the best for his fighter during that 10 week period, and he didn't.

Roach did offer, and i think Ricky should take it. But if his plans clash with Manny's in anyway, he's not going to get Roach's full attention.

 

JMM didn't win a round. He got shut out. Hatton made it way tougher on Floyd. The only thing JMM did better at was making it through the fight. ::
