Time for Oleg to hang em up. I mean, dude never did have a chin to begin with... but its pretty apparent from that short clip that he's shot to shit.
That was very typical of a lot of Olegs performances- at the start, middle and later stages of his career.
Remember when Oleg got KO'd by that fat Canadian dude his confidence was shot for years. He got knocked out by Goofi and the black Corey Sanders. IV always liked Oleg, thought he was a pretty average fighter who won a title with hard work and determination. He got upset a few times when he was overrated, but he also upset a lot of guys along the way. Fun to watch, but at 40 and not particularly big by today's standards, I hope he retires. He doesn't strike me as the type who has made a lot of money, but I hope he did.
He worked hard throughout and is living proof of the lie that whitey gets handed the ball at heavyweight. The guy was fed to bigger, more experienced contenders, ex champions even, as early as his 8th fight. He never got an easy break and earned every dime he ever made. I have him and Baldomir marked down as the true Cinderella men of the last 20 years. Throw Pendleton in there too. Guys who ascended to the very highest level in spite of the script making no mention of them.
The Most AMAZING Thing about Oleg is that in 2 Fights, Hasim Rahman (Who CAN PUNCH) COULDN'T Even Come Close to Duplicating what Soooooooooooooo MANY Others have Done... REED::
That always got me. How he went the best part of 20 rounds with that guy and never got seriously fazed is boggling. How Rahman, who has the better jab and the better chin, never even got close to doing Oleg makes no sense. But thats boxing. If it was supposed to add up, it would.
Damn, Oleg looks old in that clip. He also doesn't look like a fighter, he's stiff as hell. I liked Oleg though, I really enjoyed seeing KO Rahman, especially the second time.
Oleg is a really good fighter, he's just too old (though he hasn't seemingly lost THAT much...), and his chin is beyond suspect. He's got a really SOLID skillset, you almost can't fight more "by the book" than Oleg manages too. He's got some great wins over top opposition, and he's got some losses to top end and (now) a journeyman fighter. Time to hang em up I think, always enjoyed watching Oleg fight, too bad he wasn't champion for longer, he certainly was better than alot of the "champions" of the past decade.
I dont know.....Glen won a title in less than a Cinderella moment, with a 12 round win over less than stellar Clinton Woods. He did have a Cinderella moment versus Jones, but he was a titlist by then and had had other title shots too, notably vs Ottke and that bum Hopkins. He is the classic road-warrior come good, though.
Alot of these old guys will end up getting seriously damaged unless they hang then up, Maskaev could be knocked over by a gust of wind never mind a punch.
