REED Doubts if this Latest Loss will HURT Juan's Marketability in Houston, where he REGULARLY Draws 10,000 +...The Question is, will HBO Still B Down to TELEVISE his Fights???...

Ringsidemike Mentioned Jorge Barrios, who'd B a Good Fight...He'll SHITTALK Juan Throughout the Build-up, it'll B a Good ACTION Fight, BOTH Men will Bleed & Juan will STOP Barrios Late...Win-Win...Ringsidemike Also Mentioned Joan Guzman & Nate Campbell RE...ANY of those Bouts would do BIG Business in Houston....

Or Juan Could Become a GATEKEEPER Type & Face Anthony Peterson or Somebody...He'll NEVER AGAIN B Considered "The Best" In a Particular Division, but he's STILL Got Some Decent Paydays Ahead of him...

Because he cannot beat "eeee-lite" fighters, has rock-solid 135 and 140lb opposition to the South, and is too small to push north. Plus, as you moot, there is the possibility of gatekeeper status...something which may not appeal to him.

Humberto Gonzalez {sic} packed it in early despite having plenty of hard fights still in him.

Humberto's case is nothing like that of Diaz' at all. He got KTFO brutally in three separate fights and almost had his face fall off in his last. He'd been fighting in 12 round championship fights for almost a decade prior to his retirement.

That said, Diaz was always going to have a short prime. REED, you say he's only lost four times? Well, those four losses have been in the last 20 months with a single victory over Michael Katsidis....which was yet another tough, physical fight. I think he's clearly been "found out" over that time and the "Baby Bull" seems to have more "Baby" than "Bull" in him.

135 is where his future needs to be. He's just a fat kid @ 140 and without the extra strength advantage he holds @ 135, he's just cannon fodder for any good fighters there.

I dont want to hijack the mans thread, but Humberto was winning against the Thai, then got stupid. He could have had a great many more fights, but he had his money made- 3 butchers and a dance hall, I believe he owned at one point. Before Carbajal fought Arce, Humberto was mentioned and shelved, thanks to his not needing to fight again.

As for Diaz, he better go and get some of that catchweight shit while it is still hot.

You mention 135.......his last shot at "Glory" is if they take him to a proper training camp and train him with the sole intention of schooling Valero.

You seen the three Gonzales losses? They all look almost identical to this.

Why is it when a fighter retires when it's right, people always maintain this kind of approach? "He could have had more fights". Really? How would you know? The guy retired when he felt it was right, not when his bank balanced reached a given point. He was shaken horribly from each of his losses and the guy fell hard after Sorjaturong got him.

He won't "school" Valero, but it's a fight that makes sense for both guys at some point soon.

At least we agree on Valero vs Diaz being a fight worth making.

And Valero was just cleared to fight.....IN TEXAS.:fightme:

    Sounds good.

As it happens Diaz is one of the only "name" fighters Valero would probably beat.

    Well, Diaz and Goozman.

As for what's next for Diaz, well surely 135. If you lose to Malignaggi twice, you have no business at 140.

Why? Paulie did OK vs Cotto and Hatton, two truly stellar fighters of that division, and is a former 140lb titlist.

Losing to Malignaggi is not the acid test for who does and who doesn't belong at 140, its not like Paulie was ever the best 140lbr, but he is no gatekeeper either.

That said, Diaz would fare better at 135....unless, for reasons unknown, Amir Khan thinks he can beat Diaz.

Funny, you realize both Malinaggi-Diaz fights were JR. WW bouts where you need to come in under 140 right?

diaz should fight marquez in a return bout. that's the most lucrative fight he could get unless hatton comes out of retirement and manages to make 140 again somehow.

Seriously though.... I think Juan is done as a top fighter. Its true he had no business at 140, and its also because Paulie just had the wrong style for him... but Diaz is now in decline, as Tam alluded to. I say that because Paulie was able to wobble him, and its a terrible sign when you get hurt by Paulie. Also its highly doubtful Juan will be able to maintain the same pace he could set 2-3 years ago. His body, and skin are starting to wear down. He cuts EXTREMELY easily now, which makes it harder for him to see punches coming... which sucks cuz he never had a good D to begin with.

At 135 I think Anthony Peterson would beat him, Funeka would batter and stop him, and I see Valero icing him within 4.

Whats the point of a rubber match w/Paulie? We've just seen Paulie beat Diaz TWICE. The second time more clearly.

A Hatton fight isnt a bad idea, it would be smart for Diaz to take it if offered. Juan would get proably his biggest payday, and Hatton would get to retire with a stoppage win.

Diaz doesnt have the skill, defense, or power to "school" Valero. He'd get violently KO'd. I mean... if Paulie could wobble him, what the hell do you think is gonna happen when Valero catches him clean? It wont be pretty.

Name ONE 140 pound contender Diaz could beat. I'd pick even a fringe guy like Ricardo Torres to KO him.

kinda sucks that diaz is getting all this hate. he's actually an honest fighter and also fun to watch.

it's not like he's had a tons of gift decisions either.

texas being a crooked state when it comes to boxing is a different story, but his ability to attract fans in texas was good for boxing while it lasted.

no one really called diaz a top fighter in the first place, so why not resume whatever career he has left in houston against guys like campbell, marquez (both guys he lost to but that are also in decline), casamayor or fight washed up guys like david diaz or jesus chavez that he could've beaten even in their prime.

Name one 140lbr apart from Diaz that Malignaggi CANNOT beat. I said Malignaggi was not the gatekeeper, in otherwords, losing to him does not mean you have nothing at 140...and, if you read the full thread, I think I suggested already that Diaz might be as well off retiring. That said, if Hatton is dumb enuff {and he is} to come back, and if Valero is licensed in Texas {where Dildos are illegal but brain damaged powerpunching Incas are not} then hey...fuck it. There are 2 fights for him, just for openers.

If you lose to that overrated irrelevant Arab, you really can't have much, or atleast, enough to be a champion,.. seriously father O'neil,.. this guy is not only Armenian but,.. he's no good for the avid bird-watcher, she's a spray of mace, to the face, propergation may be good for the nursery, but you've already got your clone of collossus, you should be happy enough with Mcbrilliance.
