What may possibly be the biggest fight in history, will of course probably have an underwhelming undercard. I still have hopes it lands in Dallas, but it'll most likely end up at the MGM with at best a decent undercard. With all kinds of money being thrown around what are the chances of some other big fights or fighters landing on this? probably none but here goes anyways:

    Wishlist

    Mayweather-Pacquiao 147
    Pavlik-Sturm 160
    Williams-Martinez II 154
Juanma-Tony Escalante 122(just to see the local kid try at a title but any other top contender at 122 or 126 would do, have yet to see Caballero fight who is by most accounts topdog at 122)

Man oh man that would be a glorious day for boxing, but alas if were lucky maybe Juanma is on the undercard and hopefully Chavez Jr. is still suspended by then. What are the more real options?

Being promoted by Arum and GBP, you can bet your ass the under card will be full of Mexican midgets and of course Chavez Jr.

Hopefully the undercard is filled with guys who can punch combined with glass jaws.

From a bussiness point of view it doesn't make sense to invest more on a great undercard. Everyone will watch the PPV and it will be all because of Mayweather and Pacquiao. Why spend an extra 15-20 millions when you won't get any more buyers than you will get anyway. Sucks, but that's how it is.

Then again, from a future marketing standpoint it does make sense to market what could be future stars. They should be putting good prospects on the undercards so they get exposed to the biggest audience possible.

If the Undercard is Gonna SUCK Anyways, that's the LEAST they Could Do, Right???...Put a Bunch of GUARANTEED KO's on the Undercard...Instead, we Get Chavez Jr. in a Loooooooooooong, BORING Distance Bout...

Exactly. Even if the guys are cans if they produce some exciting KO's it at least builds some excitement.

I do agree with this, but on the other hand look at Z's post below yours.

It's no good being short sited. Surely they have to put it the work and the money to hype upcoming fighters, get people interest, and even just give PPV's a good name.

Maybe if people start putting kick ass fights on the undercard, people are going to be more satisfied, and they could possibly make PPV's more often, as long as people are getting their money's worth.

By the way, why on earth is Pavlik - Sturm one of the most appealing fights in boxing to you?

the casual fans who would allegedly be won over with a great undercard most likely wont arrive at whatever fight party or bar until the main event nears. if they are there earlier they are most likely not paying attention to the undercard. proven fact

Dan Rafael says Chavez Jr. won't be able to fight on the undercard due to his suspension.

But anyway, since it's a Golden Boy/Top Rank event, I'll try to list match ups between fighters from each camp.

Any combination of Valero, Soto, Guzman, and Barrios would be good. I'd be interested in a Victor Ortiz-Marcos Maidana rematch. Pavlik in with a live body...Sturm will suffice. And a fight featuring Gamboa, JuanMa, or Mosley if either comes out of their January bout unscathed.

    Wishful thinking, I know....

But with this fight expected to shatter PPV records you would think these promoters would at least take the chance to showcase more of their talent to the masses. Pacquiao-Mayweather itself will be huge for the sport...but what happens afterwards? :dunno:

I always thought the same. But I watched Pacquiao-Cotto in a bar, and was surprised at how many people were not only tuned into the undercard...but actually entertained by it. No joke, during Santos-Foreman, they put the Boxing PPV on all the big screens and the loud speakers...people were actually ooh and aahing at Yuri Foreman's and Daniel Santos' power shots. Then again...that could have been because of the alcohol.

I already learned not to get my hopes up even if there is alot of money involved.

fights like Delahoya/Mayweather and Hatton/Mayweather had shitty underdcards even with all the money involved.

This card will probably suck as well before the main event.

Haha yeah not exactly a barnburner, but I guess just to get real clarity as to who the man at 160 is. Shit who else is there for Pavlik? (aside from Tall Paul)

Yeah we can only laugh at the loser for a day, but then we´ll have to listen to the winner brag about it for two years, because he knows all the superior fighters are tied up in the Super Six tournament.
