I think it will be a lot easier to gauge this one after watching Pac-Mayweather.

    ditto

right now, Benitez would be the greatest defensive fighter Pac had ever seen

seeing how he deals with mayweather will say a lot about this

though obviously if you can hit Benitez's chin, things can happen

not a lot of people were able to do that when he was at his best

the KO will be unlikely...Benitez will be too big for Pacquiao 5'9-5'10"...long reach great defensive boxer...

Do you know what Double L is laughing about?? Did i just started a thread about not wanting to see Pacquiao vs. Mayweather get made or something...?

I just can't imagine Benitez knocking Pacquiao out. I think if anyone gets knocked out, it's Benitez.

I don't think it's funny though to think that Benitez could win a decision. If anyone could, he could.

Two of my favorites, but Benitez wins via UD in a good and crisp battle between two greats.

Lets not let Manny's last few fights fool us. Shot Oscar, Hatton, and Cotto were NOTHING like Benitez in style, or in class. Benitez by UD. His defense, and counterpunching IMO is exactly the way to beat Manny.

Benitez wasnt a boring fighter by any means. His finest boxing displays, vs Duran, Cervantes, and Palimino, were NOT boring fights. They were high class boxing matchups.

Freddie Roach can improve Manny's skills all he wants, he still couldnt OUTBOX El Radar.

No fucking way. Benitez was one of the most boring fighters in history. His fight versus gay ray was one of the worst in history.

No, Leonard-Benitez was a very good chessmatch. Its just overrated cause ppl act like it was close. Ray was in control the entire time. Leonard's handspeed completely threw off Wilfred's style.

Hearns-Benitez.... now THAT was a boring fight.

Wilfred was shot by then whiskey, but it was a good scrap as you pointed out.

And that is not to take anything away from Hilton as he fought a terrific fight, but he ran into a shell of a former great that afternoon, as did Davey Moore.

Hilton had sooo much potential, reminded a bit of Marcel Cerdan style-wise and physique-wise at one point in his career when he whipped up on Buster Drayton, but he evidently decided that alcohol and women were more important than boxing.

    The Cervantes fight WAS boring

But I generally agree, X, some of Benitez's fights were very entertaining, especially when he wasnt at his best and got hit (and hurt) a bit

It was not boring for a boxing purist, trainer, manager, or current or former fighter.

Benitez put on one of the most beautiful exhibitions of boxing against a very formidable and avoided Champion seen at that time.

The excitement level on site there was incredible, just watch the the tape as the crowd in San Juan was loaded for bear.

that is because it was a 17 year old kid beating a well regarded veteran champ... the accomplishment created buzz

Also, "Crowd in San Juan" ... A puerto Rican fighter could shit in a cup in the ring and they'd cheer him in San Juan

the fight itself isnt very exciting, there are about 2 cleanly landed punches in the entire fight between both men... it has almost no replay value at all.

This wasnt like Benitez aghainst Maurice Hope where he is landing clean, picturesque, hard shots on the guy and making it look easy

It wasn't domination that involved offense. It was basically all defense, from both guys. Benitez was just faster and his defense more flashy

The fight is a snoozefest, regardless of the excellence of the two fighters and I'm a Whitaker fanatic and a Locche fan, I love a great display of pure boxing... that fight is nowhere near as fun to watch as any of the best performances by Whitaker or Locche

Well, I'm a lot badder and tougher than Heath ever was, and I don't use drugs.

I am giving you a pass as I indicated before as you contribute here, but don't push it, Aaron.

agREED. There wasn't much drama in Hearns-Benitez. Benitez couldn't do anything with Hearns.

I have to disagree strongly about Benitez being boring --- while it's a subjective issue, he was magic, for mine, to view. I marvel at some of those shoulder-dips & rolling counter-shots. Just not scored the way they should be by judges, either today, or in Benitez's time. I think he's a horrible match-up for Pacquiao. The best version of Benitez may struggle with Pacquiao's speed & unorthodox approach early, & in patches throughout, but it's Pacquiao who's going to be more frequently puzzled in this match.

Benitez on relatively comfortable decision, over twelve or fifteen, for mine.
