Shavers did not have a great chin, but had more one punch power than Frazier (who was a slow starter), & what evidence do we have that Frazier's chin is any better than Nortons?
Nah-Frazier destroys Shavers to the body then rips off his head.

Frazier climbs off the deck and ices Shavers within four rounds... George Foreman had the PERFECT style to beat Frazier and it took him SIX KNOCKDOWNS to finish him... Shavers could never do that

Frazier gets hurt early, comes back and beats the life out of Shavers

Shavers had a big right hand, but that's it. Qualities absent from Shavers' game, which were present in Foreman's, were...

    A strong chin
    A first-class killer instinct
Big power from the right and left side

Shavers, one of the more over-rated contenders of the 1970's, was not even a poor man's Foreman --- he was a poor man's Lyle. He hasn't the urgency or variety of punches to finish Frazier off if he hurts him early, & he clearly lacks both the chin & endurance to survive the response.

Frazier stops Shavers in four-to-six rounds, with a clean count of ten.

I pick him in LOTS of MM's but everybody around here thinks Joe Frazier and they think FOREMAN KO2... which is beyond idiotic

Foreman would blow out most of the best Heavyweights of all-time, for mine. Difficult to hold it against Frazier, with that thinking.

not to mention if you could design a fighter in a lab to beat Joe Frazier, you'd design George Foreman

It's not just here mate- it's every fucking site I've ever read. I think most of it is because the majority of people have seen, at most, FOUR of his fights: the three with Ali and his loss to Foreman. This I can understand, but those four fights do not the fighter make, and people seem utterly to forget that:

    1. Frazier has a number of notable wins (Bonavena, Quarry, Ellis, Foster, Mathis etc) and was so impressive in gaining the title that the Ring Magazine, which had steadfastly refused to acknowledge any HW champ bar Ali while he was exiled, eventually relented and crowned Frazier their champ.

    2. He has a legitimate win over Ali, in or around Ali's prime (layoff permitting). Despite what Ali said afterwards, Joe won handily IMHO, including one of the hardest KD's you will ever see.

    3. As you correctly say, Foreman was the PERFECT style matchup to beat Frazier. All uppercuts and brute force. Joe's head low, shoulder swinging defense was tailor made for Foreman. Yet all you hear from people is "Joe has no chin", "face first defense" and other such crap :shit:

The underrating of Frazier generally is a particular bug-bear of mine. You may have noticed this...

    MTF

agREED that Frazier is criminally underrated by many. And not do folks pick him to lose most MM's, but by one-sided KOs so often that you would think they were picking against Marvis instead of Joe. Hell...I was once thread-stalked and harrassed for weeks by Jaws1216 for the crime of picking Frazier to beat Tyson.

Frazier was simply one of the best heavies ever. I wouldn't put him at the very top alongside Ali, but he definitely deserves consideration to be among the top 10 all time.

That being said, Shavers IS a threat to get Smokin' Joe outta there early. A fighter who hit like Shavers had a chance against anyone, especially early. But outside of the puncher's chance, I don't see Shavers winning.

Shavers hurts and/or drops Frazier early, but Frazier gets though it and takes control by the 3rd round and stops Shavers before the mid-rounds.,

^^^Plausible. Shavers just does not have the strength of jaw, or the defensive savvy, to withstand Frazier's assault, or effectively hold him off.

He never finished off anyone he hurt who was on Frazier's level.
