It matters but doesn't mean much. Hell, Manny and Floyd were in negotiations at one point too and we saw how that turned out. Still, the longer this takes to actually become official the more I'm starting to doubt Floyd will go through with it.

Maybe I pulled that Kentucky Fried Floyd sig too soon.

If this fight does not happen Floyd is one chicken shit mofo. We all know Shane would walk through fire to get in the ring with PBF.

I'm sick of this guy, when he fights he fights guys no one wants to see then retires only to come back with 18 months to piss us all all again.

Come on dude, man up. Fight Shane and if you beat him get in there with Manny.

It does appear that the numbers of those that "do know shit about boxing" seem to be getting less & less every fight that PBF avoids.

Corrales beat Floyd in the amateurs? Didn't know that. Either way, it's of minor importance.

Corrales' style troubling everyone to that point isn't really relevant either. Floyd was obviously much better than anyone Chico faced.

And like a lot of patient punchers, Corrales had trouble with pure boxers. Trinidad would be another example of a patient puncher that had trouble with boxers.

It's the classic style triangle actually.

Boxer beats puncher, puncher beats swarmer, swarmer beats boxer.

Patient punchers give boxers the room and pace they need to potshot and move etc. Swarmers on the other hand, don't give boxers the room they need. And of course swarmers walk into the puncher's hard punches.

That style triangle is probably illustrated best with Ali/Foreman/Frazier.

Even though all along I've considered it's going to take a non stop aggressive fighter to beat Floyd, I'm not sure that's true. Floyd does actually do better against swarmers than most pure boxers, probably because he's quite adept and sneaky on the inside, and still has good defense on the inside.

Castillo in the first fight was the best example of how to beat Floyd, intelligent aggression and timing. You have to pressure him, but not swarm.

Pacquiao is the man for the job :kidcool:

Again, Floyd fights to the style placed in front of him. I've seen him get on his toes and box (Corrales), be the come-forward stalker (Judah), or fight on the inside and take his guy out (Hatton). And Floyd did press the fight in the latter rounds and stepped it up. Did he get the KO or come close to it? No, but he certainly stepped it up. Sometimes it's not so easy to just go in there and put a "beating" on someone.

You keep harping on the Oscar fight but that shouldn't define Floyd no more than the Louie Leija fight should. If you don't like Floyd because he's safety-first, fine. Doesn't change anything. I love Roy but I've never seen him tagged, really hurt and then stand toe-to-toe with his man like Floyd did against Corley, for instance. We all see what we want to.
I don't either. In fact, I wrote an article about it when I used to write on here. I certainly don't believe that is the case now but I'll be back in his a** if he fights some chump next.
I don't think it matters, quite frankly. If he was so concerned about his undefeated record following a close call with Castillo he wouldn't have given him an immediate rematch four months later.
I'm very high on Pac, you just think that because I believe Pac is on PEDs. Or maybe you don't. Either way, Pac has been a pleasure to watch and thus far, in my opinion, is the greatest fighter of this generation. But that doesn't excuse him or his team from their terrible, terrible actions recently and I have to put my personal feelings on any fighter to the side with regards to that.
I'd pick Floyd but Shane has the one-hitter quitter IMO. Just don't see him landing it.

Just re-watched parts of PBF-Judah, & I tend to agree.
Everything that Zab was having success with against PBF (fast SP stance in & out combos, good angles), Manny does better.
All the stuff that let Zab down (Chin, mental midget), does not seem to be a problem for Manny.

I believe so to a certain extent--especially looking at the Corley fight. However, I think Judah's "success" is a little overblown. He had a good first two rounds, lost the third, landed one hard left in the fourth before the ass-kicking that began in the previous round commenced...throughout the whole fight. Furthermore, I doubt we'll see Floyd play the role of stalker against Pacquiao like he did against Zab. He won't have to. And he probably prefers he doesn't.

Agreed. I have defended Mayweather many, many times. But if he does not fight Mosley next then he had better "stay busy" with Cintron or Berto (if Berto is ready in the spring) or else there will be no more defending PBF.

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya says despite a bitter ongoing feud outside of the ring, he hasn't given up trying to convince Filipino Manny Pacquiao to fight his client Floyd Mayweather.

"That fight has to happen," De La Hoya said Tuesday of the proposed bout which fell apart earlier this month in a drug-testing dispute. "It's too big not to happen. We just have to cross one hurdle."

Speaking at a news conference Tuesday to promote a non-title junior welterweight fight, De La Hoya said Mayweather and Pacquiao will fight sooner than people think.

Pacquiao, boxing's pound-for-pound king, is scheduled to square off against Joshua Clottey at Cowboys Stadium in Texas on March 13.

Mayweather and Pacquiao almost cut a deal this month, but claimed they couldn't agree on a 10-day gap in the timing of drug tests prior to their proposed March 13 bout.

"The public will hopefully make him change his mind," De La Hoya said. "Why would you not want to earn 40 million dollars? Why would you not want to show the public that all this speculation is nonsense? Be the one to stand up and say it."

De La Hoya also said Mayweather and Shane Mosley are in talks to possibly meet May 1, likely in Las Vegas.

If negotiations fall through with Mosley, after falling through with Pacquiao too, and you'd be fine with Cintron or Berto - then you're still a Floyd apologist.

Floyd used to be more watchable, and less safety first. Although I've never liked him outside the ring, I DID used to like him as a fighter. Although not as aggressive as I tend to like my fighters, he was damn good to watch. And even if it was only against bums like Manfredy, he was certainly more aggressive back then, and put on more of a show.

At welterweight, the only performance I thought was good, where he showed some balls and gave a good fight and took his man out was of course Hatton. The Judah fight was OK. I kind of got the feeling the main reason Floyd took over in that fight, was that Judah wilted mentally, as per usual.

Don't get me wrong. He is a clever, skillful fighter, very hard to beat - but I just think he is a wasted talent. Not only does he not take on the best fighters available, but the fighters he does fight, he doesn't even fight to his full potential.

Regarding the Oscar fight not defining Floyd any more than the Leija fight, are you serious? You know better than that.

Sorry but the Oscar fight wasn't just "one fight" - it was the biggest fight of his career, against one of the best opponents, more viewers than ever before, a chance to show the world what Floyd, the supposed best fighter in the world, is all about.

It's the biggest fights that tell us the most about fighters. Some rise to the occasion, some don't.

It's like saying the Cotto fight shouldn't define Clottey anymore than the Cruz fight. The truth is it should. It shows that Clottey - despite being a good fighter - is a choker.

And conversely, fights like the Oscar and Cotto fight define Pacquiao. In his biggest fights, he looks better than ever, even though he's had some lulls against guys like Larios etc.

If it's not about his undefeated record, why do you think he has been cherry picking his opponents, and fighting far more cautiously in recent years then?

Actually it was nothing to do with the PEDs, for some reason I had it mind you didn't rate Pacquiao as much as some.

And about Mosley, yep Shane can still punch, but to be honest I think Floyd's chin is quite good. I think it takes more than 1 shot to KO him.

That's why I would pick Pacquiao by decision, although I think Pacman would have more chance of KOing him than Shane.

Floyd by decision over Mosley is the safe pick, but I really wanted to see him against Berto.

I agree. He's been far less aggressive as he's moved up in weight but I'm not surprised. That's what usually happens. Usually. As for the Judah fight, the plan was obviously to back him up and force him to fight. And they knew he'd quit. This obviously tells us that Floyd tailors his style to his opponent.

When you look at Floyd's career, he's almost always shined in his biggest bouts with the exception of Oscar. The Corrales fight at one point was the biggest fight of his career. Then Gatti. And so forth. Even after Oscar it was Hatton. The Oscar fight was the exception, not the rule. Sometimes you just can't "beat someone up." It happens - especially when the guy has a size advantage.
Nearly every fighter cherry picks once they are in a position to do so. That's just the game. As far as fighting more cautiously, I'd say (as I did before) that it has much to do with fighting bigger men.
    Well now you know.
I do too. Again, I pick Floyd.

If Oscar nearly beat PBF, what makes anyone sure that PBF could beat Mosley or Pacquiao?

The circular/triangular logic doesn't work. Especially since Oscar treated Mayorga like an abusive dad while Mosley struggled forever. Besides, you and I both know that Oscar-Floyd fight was just...weird.

it was weird. but it wasn't clear who was holding back and if it were both, who benefited more.

also, it's funny that you reject the circular logic and then use it yourself (with Mayorga) to further your point.

i agree the circular logic doesn't work. but when it comes to Mosley, i think a lot of what he brings to the table (speed, power and strength) are the same things that ODH used to trouble PBF.

by the same token, the trouble Mosley had with Mayorga, I think, is irrelevant since Mosley's trouble primarily was due to Mayorga's size and strength.
