He's had some tough losses against name fighters but he's also beat some good fighter, most mma fans wrote him off unfairly because he's easy to dislike!
I think he's failed for recreational drugs in the past Diaz was impressive....i sat on the fence with this one because i didn't know much about Zaromskis, but i was disappointed seeing that a few people were tipping him i expected more. Diaz has got a great striking style for MMA....put him in with someone who knows how to slip a punch and counter, then he might be in trouble....but those guys are few and far between in MMA. He's got reach and genuinely very good accuracy...and his output just overwhelms his opponents. Not a great night of action, didn't expect it to be with the Lashley and Walker fights there. Lawler-Maenhof (did Lawler do ANYTHING offensively before that right hand?....got to hand it to him though) and the main event were fun though.
are there any other semi-elite fighters in the welterweight division at strikeforce? considering that diaz has improved since going over to strikeforce, i wonder how he would do against the likes of fitch, koschek, alves, and thiago.
Well, the Strikeforce additions of Maenhof and Zaromskis got owned. I thought Maenhof was dead. He didn't actually wake up for about 5 minutes. By the way, Diaz has to be in everyone's top 10 P4P. Wonder how he'd do against GSP....
MMA striking has come a long way, even in just the past two years, but when are these guys going to learn to move their fucking heads?
What the hell happened to Melvin? What a douche. Getting KO'd by Robbie Lawler. That was Duane Ludwig-esque in terms of terrible performances. And Zaromskis is a chump. Disappointing.
No shit. Lawler can hit. And he was never stunned in the fight. His leg got worked but he wasn't stunned. You certainly don't want to get careless against him.
Yeah so what? Samuel Peter can punch too, but that doesn't mean it's acceptable for him to beat Vitali. Melvin's striking is leaps and bounds better than Lawler, he's disgraced himself here, sadly. I will probably never respect him as a fighter ever again.
Two things about the main event. 1: Diaz- His striking has improved, I think that was clear, especially using his reach, but still has laughable defense and little power. 2: Zaromskis- Terrible performances. Kid needs a ton of work. Shouldve never beaten Mach. Got lucky against him and didn't even ATTEMPT a head kick this fight. Definitely showing he doesn't have the temperment and the cage IQ to be a champion. Striking not really known as polished but he had good kicks which he did not use. Sloppy bar room wide punches, moderate power, limited movement, terrible defense, laughable chin. Could be good, but he was terrible tonight. He doesn't have it upstairs to match his physical gifts.(outside of the bad chin) Needs to get some coaches that can turn him into a Cro Cop type fighter. Stop wildly swinging, defend and set up a head kick. Still think he could be good but not now.
At what weight did Zamorkis fight in Dream? I think he needs to come down to 155 if he could and fight BJ Penn. Lawler's KO was the highlight of the night. Miraculously stayed in the fight and put him to sleep.
Are you kidding me? Do you know how many times this guy has been KO'd? You act as if it is an impossibility or something. Lawler can crack and Manhoef has a bad chin. Whats so hard to understand??
Nick Diaz is not top 10 P4P. Get real. And for as much as I hate GSP, he'd beat Diaz 10 out of 10 times. TFK
Diaz is obviously a lot better than you thought though, seeing as he slapped Zaromskis around like a red headed stepchild.
any thoughts on the job the announce team did?....it was ridiculous, they went more even more OTT on Walker than i thought they would
Well, the GSP thing may have been beer and excitement induced. But what I can't figure out is why Diaz continues to be overlooked in most peoples opinion about the top 170 pounders in the world. Personally I'd make him a favorite in almost any match-up south of GSP. I would like his chances with guys like Fitch, Alves, Koscheck, etc. The guy has great cardio, freakish size and reach, is smart and obviously has a great chin.
I don't know. Melvin is flashy and strong, but the best strike I saw in the fight was the one that put Melvin to sleep for about 10 minutes. To me that's all that matters in the striking game.
I agree. Diaz has lost to some people he shouldn't have, but I've been a fan of his since I first saw him - against Lawlor. He's looked better than ever recently. I don't understand why he's so underrated either. I think it's mainly because he's a lot better than he looks/seems. He doesn't appear to be particularly fast or strong or powerful or slick etc, but the man knows how to fight, and he's just been dominating guys recently and taking them out. And even though his punches look kind of slow and looping, his boxing is excellent by MMA standards. Despite the sloppy look of them, his punches have very good timing and accuracy, he always lands at a very high connect ratio. And his reach is better than it seems too. Because his punches aren't straight and neat like a good puncher, they don't seem particularly rangey, but they obviously are. Obviously I wouldn't pick him to beat GSP, but I'd give him a chance against any of the others. Maybe even Alves.
Seriously, man, you sound like you're fucking 15.:: Deep breaths. As Bob said, Melvin's chin has always been suspect and you act like Robbie can't bang. These two could fight 10 times and we could see 10 different results. :nono: And you are an idiot for calling Zaromskis a chump. The guy got taken out by an ever evolving badass in Nick Diaz. Get over your teeny-bopper bullshit. Did you come from Sherdog's forum or what?:atu:
that's exactly why i underestimated him mws, he doesen't look very good, but he is. I was also very high on Zarmoskis having seen his last 5 or so fights on the net, and he seemed like a genuine badass, not a wild slugger like he showed yesterday. He did rock Diaz pretty good though.
"ceasar Gracie jitsu motherfucker!" haha Nick Diaz is a character. I heard on the telecast that he's such a polarizing figure. Why? Because if the hit he talks? I like the dude, he seems very calm and collected, or maybe just cocky.
