Double L, don't do it man. Just appreciate that Floyd is fighting a live opponent. Mosley is still a very good fighter, all the credit in the world to Floyd if he wins.
Hadn't thought of that but yeah. I hope Shane is not too much of an underdog so I can win some cash on this.
Mosley was more bothered by Cotto's punches than Manny. Manny's chin is at least as good as Shane's, both have excellent chins. Manny's youth, speed, footwork, southpaw stance and unpredictability pose far, far more problems than what Mosley brings to the table.
Exactly. As soon as a fighter proves himself in the ring with an outstanding victory (the way Mosley, Marquez, Hatton, ODLH has done), PBF immediately challenges them for a fight, while they're at the peak of their boxing powers. Compare this to a guy like Antonio Margacheato, so adored by Double.
Cotto hits harder than Floyd. I'm telling you, this is not a discussion that is going anywhere. I will never agree that Manny is a tougher fight than Shane.
Innit. Like I said in the above post, it's the speed and unpredictability of Manny that makes him a much tougher fight than Shane. Plus the constant activity, movement, stamina etc etc. I love Mosley, but he IS a bit too 1 dimensional and predictable for Floyd. I don't think it'll be an easy fight, but Floyd should win, and it's also difficult to gauge what Mosley has left. As brilliant as the Plasterito beating was, it was probably quite flattering to Mosley, seeing as Plasterito is a stupid, slow, sloppy Sloth of a fighter, especially without the cement in his gloves. I also agree Floyd has a good chin. He did take the odd flush hook from Oscar, with basically no effect. As you may have guessed, I do disagree with you on the outcome of Manny Vs Floyd though if it happens. I pick Manny by decision. I truly think he has what it takes to beat Floyd, disrupt his rhythm, hit him more than anyone has hit him before, especially with punches he doesn't see coming etc. Fighting someone faster than him is going to be significant - you saw glimpses of it against Judah, but of course Manny brings a whole lot more to the table. In all honesty though, Manny is the only fighter I would pick to beat Floyd at 147 or 154. I think Floyd would probably beat Tall Paul, if he could make 154 too. Which is all the more reason it frustrates me that Floyd hasn't challenged himself in the last however many years, apart from Oscar.
Floyd has been hurt before (Corley??). He was also hurt in one of his first four fights, if I recall correctly. As for that Oscar fight, no he wasn't hurt but he was definitely stung (maybe more than stung) by a right hand from Oscar toward the end of the 11th round - watch again. And that's Oscar's weak hand. Floyd can be hurt and Shane could do it. Could.
Then you're insane :: Not only is Pacman a better fighter than Mosley point blank, but stylistically he matches up better with Floyd. And yes Cotto hits harder than Floyd, that's not the point. The point is, Cotto landed flush shots on both Manny and Mosley, and they had more effect on Shane (although still not that much of an effect). Manny's chin seems rock solid at welterweight. If size and power was what it took to beat Floyd, he would have been clearly beaten clearly by Chico, or Castillo, or Oscar etc. Floyd is fucking slippery and hard to hit. It's going to take an extremely quick, unpredictable fighter to beat Floyd, not someone big and strong who can rough him up. I used to think it would take a pressure fighter to beat Floyd, but actually for a pure boxer, Floyd does pretty well against swarmers, and he can fight inside a bit too.
I remember one or two of Oscar's punches did sting Floyd, but like you say, he wasn't hurt. And I don't think being stung by Oscar is anything to go by, Oscar has very respectable power. He was more hurt against Zab and Corley, probably because he didn't see them coming. That was a genuine knockdown Vs Zab. Overall though, he has a good chin, no doubt about it. I would be very surprised if Mosley OR Manny KO'd him to be honest.
Are you serious? I have actually said for years Floyd's power is slightly underrated. By by underrated I mean he has average power at 147, at world level. Some people say he is feather fisted, that's definitely not true. But Cotto, although not a 1 punch KO artist, is pretty heavy handed. He hits harder than average at 147, I'd say almost as hard as Mosley, and a decent amount harder than Floyd.
Oscar's not very powerful with his right hand. But he def got Floyd's attention in a major way in round 11. No question Floyd has a good chin - and a good heart as he showed against Corley - but he can be hurt, definitely by Shane.
Yeah that's true, Oscar's right hand has always been pretty feeble, especially compared to his left hook. I don't remember the right hand to be honest, I only remember Floyd getting clipped with a left hook or two, and getting his attention, but not really hurting him properly.
I don't think Cotto's a hard hitter but he is physically very strong. I think you make a point about heavy-handedness; he reminds me of Quartey in that regard. But Floyd hits very hard, I think. And if he ever wore puncher's gloves like everyone else, it might show.
No one remembers it - Floyd played it off so, so well. Just watch it again; it occurs with about 10-15 seconds left to go in the 11th. Wish someone could upload it. He got rocked a bit but is just such a smart fighter.
And that was a shot Oscar too who didn't even train hard since he's busy promoting. Floyd still got all he could handle. LOL!
