Definitely worth watching if you haven't seen it. Going to be hard to beat that. Damn shame, this was an easier fight for Melvin than he's going to get against grapplers like Jacare and Shields. He's pretty much screwed now.
I must admit, i don't know much about Manhoef....what's his take down defence like? TBH, i don't think his stock took a dive after this fight....he was impressive up to the knockout.....he has an exciting style. He's got a shot against either of those guys, IF he can keep the fight on its feet.
It's good but he won't stuff Jacare or Shields takedowns every time. Outside of BJ Penn, even guys with great TDD get taken down, and in his situation, it's not a cliche. Once Jacare gets him on the mat it's over. Hell, Jacare does that with good grapplers, let alone a Manhoef.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pick him in either fight, but they're good fights to make. He could lose again and Strikeforce will still probably wanna use him because he brings that excitement. I expect him to go back to Dream and notch up a couple of wins at some point though.
so true. this fight should've been an easy win for Manhoef, Lawler was never a threat to Manhoef even on the ground. in fact he could've won by just throwing leg kicks alone whilst keeping his guard up and I'm sure if Manhoef survived the first rnd Lawler corner wouldve thrown in the towel. That punch didnt look powerful at all. I'd love to see Cung v Manhoeff, this needs to happen.
