Hagler wins..BUT BY DECISION. Don't gimme this HAGLER RAPES Pavlik KO3 Xplosive type of knee-jerk response, por favor. Pavlik has a solid chin, lots of heart, good stamina and is much bigger than anyone than any decent fighter that Hagler defended his crown against. Hagler is just to skillful in this one.
If you're making this match up to make a point, it's a fairly stange one, sly. I agree with your pick all the way. Hagler 12-3/10-2.
I pick Hagler by late stoppage. Marvin would approach the fight carefully and use his vastly superior skill to pick Pavlik apart. Pavlik would get tired in his attempts to fight back and that would open Hagler chances to land powershots that would eventually buckle Kelly. Hagler TKO 10
Hagler TKO 8. Pavlik bravely marches forward, but hits mostly air and gloves as he is picked apart by Hagler. Pavlik's face gets busted up and he is dropped in the 8th. He beats the count, but the ref has seen enough and waves it off.
We must remember that Sly has an agenda. Because while Floyd is his husband, Hopkins is his mister on the side. If Hop couldnt stop Pav, he'd like to believe that Hagler wouldnt either. Hagler was heavier handed than Hopkins however, and a better finisher.
How about analyzing the fight instead of the poster? It wouldn't matter really how Hagler won anyway, it is pretty much impossible to be more convincing than Hopkins was
Kelly Pavlik does not have a good chin. Not by any stretch of the imagination. I agree that he is gutsy, courageous and has plenty of good old fashioned bottle, but he does not have a good chin. Fighters with good chins do not hit the canvas courtesy of guys like Taylor and Zuniga. Anyway, Pavlik loses because he is a level or so below Hagler. He'll put up a good effort, might have a little success here and there, but ultimately he loses. Probably by late stoppage. MTF
I see Hagler forcing a late stoppage, in a fairly one-sided affair. It's no knock on Pavlik, he'd certainly give it a shot, but I just can't see him being effective, & Hagler would go for the kill late-on, scoring the TKO in about ten rounds. The two men just aren't on the same plain.
Hagler would outbox him and stop him in the mid rounds. Pavlik does have a size advantage, but not enough of one to make up for the gap in abilities. The older Hagler of 85-on, with flatter feet and slower legs/reflexes, would win a more exciting and competitive fight, with more time spent fighting on the inside.
Hagler feeds on smaller fighters like Mugabi and Duran, hapless fighters like Minter, Antuofermo and Caveman Lee...and yet he's proved that he'd stop a HUGE new millenium solid chinned Middleweight like Kelly "the Ghost" Pavlik? Pavlik would appear so much bigger than Marvin in that ring it wouldn't be funny. I agree with Xplosive that Hagler would beat him like a Hebrew Slave (I LOVE THAT ONE..gotta keep using it)...but it would be a whupping on points. Pavlik is big and strong with good stamina and dependable chin...Marvin was a boxer-puncher that contrary to popular opinion had a strong punch but not a devastating one.
Where do you keep getting Pav's "dependable chin" from? Kelly's chin is nothing special at all. Chin and toughness are two different things entirely. Kelly is tough, but his chin is not. Size would mean nothing in this fight. Hagler would be moving in and out, busting Kelly in the face non-stop with that wicked right jab of his, and hitting Kelly with consistent combinations. Hagler wasnt a "devestating" puncher, and no one is saying otherwise... but he WAS a good puncher, and one of the most ACCURATE punchers in history.... which would spell Kelly's doom. Hopkins coulda stopped Pav had he really put his foot on the gas. A prime Hagler did NOT let guys off the hook once he got them going. Pav aint lasting the distance. ESPECIALLY not if we're putting him a 15 rounder with Hagler.... then theres NO WAY he's lasting the distance.
If Taylor had anywhere close to Hagler's finishing abilities he would have a KO2 win over Pavlik. opcorn:
Hagler would feel threatened just as he did against Hearns. Consequently, he'd fight aggressively and stop Pavlik early having seen red.
Sly thinkin Pav lasts the distance sounds more comical now.:atu: The Hagler jab turns Pav's face into a gushing mess with the first 2 rounds. Marv finishes him mid way, forget a late stoppage.
Please. You are te last person to criticize anybody's earlier picks that include Pavlik since you have turned your coat completely with him
When the hell would I ever give him a chance vs Hagler? Sly only picked Pav to go the distance vs Hagler because he has an agenda.... he's a Hopkins groupie.
