This one's for you, Vernon. RIP Champ.

Forrest jabs the hell out of Phony and proceeds to beat on him for 12 rounds.

I say Forrest via UD or possible late stoppage.

This is a dangerous fight for Forrest. He may be fighting with a ghost out there having some flashbacks of the Mayorga fights.

Margarito is only tough against smaller fighters. Forrest would pummel this clown. Loaded gloves or not.

I agree. Margarito wasn't quite as offensively-explosive as Mayorga, nor was he as wildly unpredictable, but what he does have is the ability to keep throwing hard, thumping shots (albeit, those gloves may well have been loaded for many fights, & probably were). It's a dangerous fight for Forrest, indeed. The fact that Mayorga put him away so quickly --- it was over in seconds --- is troubling.

With that said, I believe Margarito's running into a lot of trouble with that long jab of Forrest's. Maybe it's just me, but I always saw Forrest as kind of a poor man's Tommy Hearns. Tall, strong Welter, with an excellent, long jab & the ring knowledge to maximise his height & reach. Likely outcome is he does just that here, disrupts Margarito's bodyassault with the long left hand early, & then reduces his man to spurts of offensive success, tempered by a more-frequent inability to keep the pace going. A bit like Morales-Pacquiao I in that sense, where one guy has his moments, but is more often a step behind, & thusly loses a competitive --- but clear --- decision.

Such is the case here, IMO. Forrest, 7-4-1 on my card. Would I be stunned if Margarito got him, though? Not stunned, no.

Well if they had never fought WE WOULD ALL say the same about Forrest vs Mayorga.

I think vernon wins a decision...but a very close one.

I'd fancy Margarito here, personally. I think Vernon has a tendency to like things done neatly and at his own pace and I can his swamped by the shear volume of Margirito's offense despite landing the more eye catching shots through the fight. Close fight either way, but I can see a 7-5 outcome for Tony.

Forrest by destruction and late TKO stoppage. I wish this fight had happened.

You fail to see that Margarito and Mayo had two diff styles. Mayo was quicker, more awkward, and more unpredictable than Margarito. That threw Vern off his game. Phony is more conventional and methodical in his come forward style, and has relatively slow hands and feet. In other words.... he plays right into Vern's hands.

Forrest woulda beat the hell outta that cheating puta. In fact, who's to even say that the cheating bitch Marg would even beat a prime Mayorga?

Agreed. Mayorga was much more mobile than Margarito. Margarito is a one dimensional fighter, even in comparison to the Mayorga that beat Forrest.

I'm pretty convinced by the Mosely and Cotto fights that any top 5 welter can outbox and/or stop Margacheato.

Plastercheato could give Forrest a lot of trouble, if not win.

But regular Cheato? Nope. No pop.

    Like I said....

"..if they had never fought WE WOULD ALL say the same about Forrest vs Mayorga"

It's easy to say...NOW..after seeing those fights that Mayo is "quick", "awkward" and thusly can throw Forrest off his game.

but anyone who saw Spinks outbox Mayo and then remember seeing Vernon outbox Mosley, twice...would have UNDOUBTEDLY (you included, don't motherfucking lie) said that Vernon would have embarrassed him with a boxing clinic.

Spinks is a better boxer than Forrest. He has to, he's one dimensional.

The main difference is speed. Spinks' quick feet and slick reflexes were the factors than enabled him to avoid Mayorga's rushes. Forrest was a tad slower and that cost him. Margarito however was slow enough for Forrest to keep his rhythm and thus he would win pretty clear

Mayorga & Margirito's styles are almost completely OPPOSITE, other than their innate aggression. Marg is a methodical, steady, come forward volume puncher. Mayorga was actually something of a counter puncher in that he'd tend to wait for openings. Mayorga was totally unpredictable & sporadic with a relatively low output - an ocassional ten foot tidal wave; Tony completely predictable & methodical - the tide coming in, lapping away relentlessly

That said, I think Tony wins, but there's isn't really anything we saw in the Mayorga fight to base that on.

Very fair chance of this. It'd be close, IMO.

I'll give it to Forrest about 7-5 though.
