the unfortunate truth is that while boxers are superior strikers (imo), in real fighting unorthodox striking that does not work in the ring can work.

kj noons is an excellent boxer by mma standards (not quite a decent pro) but he got knocked out by charles bennett who obviously has no boxing skill.

the best muay thai fighters would eat a top boxer alive in a k1 rules bout, but could easily get knocked out by them in mma which prompts me to wonder what exactly good striking is.

The glove size probably comes into play a lot more than the skillsets do. That being said, having superior boxing skills is still a huge asset in MMA.

    that is also true.

boxing obviously helps and being a good boxer is better than not being one. but boxing is tactical and has many rules. im talking more a real fight than in mma. a tough guy who can throw a strong fast punch can KO a boxer that in the ring would annihilate him.

Which bout or bouts are you referring to where you've seen this happen?

I don't believe that for a second. Maybe if he came up behind him and suckered punched him, but in a 1 on 1 fight? No.

Boxer's defense too good, chin too chin, punches too fast, accurate and powerful.

In my experience the average thug has absolutely no chance in a fair fight against even a half decent amateur boxer.

    depends on the people.

some people just punch very hard and quick, naturals if you will. someone like mighty mo (a garbage boxer at best) massacred frans botha (an ex boxing world champion) with punches.

takanori gomi KOed jens pulver (an undefeated ,albeit against bums, pro boxer) with a punch to the head. krazy horse (no boxing experience at all) KOed kj noons (very good boxing for a mma fighter)

in a spur of the moment fight a bigger power puncher like lets say ricky hatton who was easily beaten by mayweather in the ring, could grab mayweather and pummel him with his free hand.

sonny williams knocked out marvin hagler at a gas station the day before their boxing match (that hagler easily won)

in boxing floyd can give up his back and protect himself with thick gloves, in a fight when he doesnt know what is coming he could easily get caught slipping by someone heavy handed who couldnt touch him in the ring.

kevin randlemans punching is miserable but with brute aggression and quickness he knocked out mirko crocop and murillo ninja, both great strikers.

boxers who win with superior ability and not punching speed/power could get massacred by boxers they easily defeated in the ring, and likewise naturals who have big power and speed but no skill could KO boxers that would easily beat them in boxing.
