If Mayorga taps like a bitch within 10 seconds it means nothing when we discuss the two sports. In saying that, it would be interesting if he won. ::
I would freaking hate to get hit by Mayorga with the little mma gloves. Unlike the James Toney bullshit I was arguing about a while ago, Mayorga has to be one of the hardest punchers p4p mma has ever had.
I agree Z, Din Thomas is a great litmus test for him. Thomas is a journeyman, has some nice wins, but will never be considered even top 25 again. If Mayo can't beat Thomas, he should just go back to boxing. Does anyone have any idea who Mayorga is training with? Takedown defense, takedown defense, takedown defense. At this point even trying to develop ground skills is useless. Just don't let it go there and give himself a chance to land a bomb.
Not sure why Mayorga would want to make his MMA debut against a guy like Thomas that is so solid on the ground. If Mayorga gets out of the 1st round I'll be amazed.
my thoughts exactly, I was somewhat impressed that he took on someone of Thomas's level for his first fight, though.
yeah, well maybe that just demonstrates his arrogance....that he believes he can turn up and beat any of these cage fighters just with his fists alone...so he's not asking to start at the shallow end. It's a tough debut....if you're a 25 year old olympic standard wrestler and you've switched to MMA, you're not expected to be pitted against a 25-8 fighter in your debut. So losing, even if he was taking his new sport deadly serious, wouldn't be a disgrace. I hope Mayorga does do well, i've always liked him. He's the most intriguing of the boxing-to-MMA converts because he's not that far removed from a very high level....i thought he ahead going into the 12th vs Mosley. so what weight is this fight gonna be at?
well Mayorga is the attraction, i'm guessing that if he wants it at, say, 160, then it would happen there because it is a good opportunity for Thomas to gain some notoriety. But, Mayorga was making 154 not so long ago, so if he is training properly, then 155 makes sense.
Actually Din has been at 145 over his last 3 fights. After losing to Josh Neer and getting dunked by the UFC, Din dropped down. Probably a smart move and he is 3-0 at that weight. It will be interesting to see if he pops back up to 155 or 160 for this or if they make Ricardo come down. My guess would be Thomas goes back up for 1 fight.
