Manny has proven that he had the chin, stamina, speed and power to easily defeat tough Welterweights like Oscar De La Hoya and Cotto..let alone lightweights which are 12 pounds lighter.

Still...Duran is the greatest Lightweight that ever lived, slays men by the thousands and if he were here he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes and lighting bolts from his ARSE!

Manny has dealt with all styles and prevailed but Duran has always had his way with extremely fast, high volume, southpaws who had one punch KO power and who throw from unpredictable angles and have good chins. Duran has fought that style many times and prevailed usually by first round knockout.

So Manny is made for Ka'Lel....er...Roberto Duran...surely.

    Thoughts?

Pacquiao is a lot more competitive than some people envision, & Duran has to get off the deck early & use every dirty trick in the book to stop a depleted Pacquiao on his stool through ten or eleven rounds. Electric exchanges at times. The battle between Roach & Arcel would be just as intriguing.

I've never yet seen Pacquiao "depleted" late in a fight. Dude seems to have as much stamina as anyone that I've ever seen.

But it will be a classic fight. I agree with you there.

Remember the fight with Sanchez? There will be shades of that here. Pacquiao flustered & pressured by foul tactics.

No one misunderstand me --- I'm not saying that was the Pacquiao of his prime, or that a latter-day Pacquiao wouldn't crush the likes of Sanchez. Just stating he suffered from fouls in that fight, & he would here, too. Some people think of this as a one-sided Duran victory, I don't. I think the Panamaniac is suitably bothered by Pacman's blend of speed & power to turn things nasty.

On thw subject of Pacquiao being depleted, he's gonna catch a beating like he's never dreamed of in this fight, & I think it takes a hell of a toll. His defense has never been especially tight, & boy, could Duran whack. Didn't want for handspeed, either, though Pacquiao probably retains the edge there. Both boys are going to get some mighty licks in, but Duran was a little bigger, a little better.

This comes from someone who considers Duran largely over-rated, btw. He is not the best Lightweight of all-time --- not for head-to-head, not for accomplishment. Close on both fronts, indeed, but people romanticise him excessively, especially as a 135lber.

We didn't see Manny enough at lightweight to know his capabilities there. It seems that the speed difference is very important for him: he can dominate very strong guys with his speed, but at super feather he had difficulties against guys who could time him.

Styles favor Manny here. Duran was pretty good at what he did, but Manny's quick footwork would keep him out of the trouble most times and his quick counters would hit Duran time and time again, while Duran might do damage humping close.

I see it as a close fight which turns in favor of Pacquiao in late rounds

Pacquiao's awkwardness, when put together with his raw hitting power & positively blistering handspeed is what earns him a first-round knockdown, & three of the first four rounds on my card. I think they swap the next four rounds, two a piece, but it's Pacquiao who is beginning to struggle from the Duran onslaught. After about the eleventh, Pacquiao is pretty busted up. I think Roach concedes defeat before the bell rings for round twelve.

Once more --- you would see some scintillating exchanges in this fight. Both guys would really light the other up at times.

I can't pick against Duran here. Not at 135. Duran by TKO after extensive body work, Pac-Man slows down, and the hands of stone knock him the fuck out. Duran's chin was too good to be bothered by Pacquiao.

Pacquiao could absolutely put him on the ringmat, but I doubt he could keep him there. Duran had trouble seeing many of DeJesus' punches, in more than one of their fights. When a guy with Pacquiao's raw power hits you with a punch you just can't see coming, you bet you're coming off your feet at some point.

I think Duran would be frankly shocked at Pacquiao's offense in the early going. Maybe not shell-shocked, but certainly upset.

Arguably both Whitaker and Mayweather...in terms of head to head.

Without reading, let me try my hand at Sly's post

"Duran is just a more limited version of JMM, and Pacquiao fought evenly with him.

Therefore based on STYLES, and my ability to see things that others can't see, Pacquiao would win by KO.

We saw what happened when Duran faced world class fighters (Leonard 1, Hearns) Pacquiao would be able to take it to him and KO him just like Hearns

Easy pick, if you can analyze like I can

I saw Duran on a video once. The picture was a bit grainy compared to the shiny new HD stuff I watch now, mind. Seemed a tad old.

He looked canny enough, though, so I'll say Duran by KO. Maybe with a bodyshot.

Does pacquiao get to use HGH and god knows what else leading up to the fight?

Ramonza made a key point--- Pacquiao looked very discouraged and flustered in that Sanchez fight... nobody could get dirty like Duran, except maybe Fritzie Zivic

The William Wallace reference was supposed to be all good fun...but you have to get offended. You need to remember to take your daily metamucil...

Based on your attempts, William Wallace, you are hardly the judge of all things clever.

Pac would discover VERY quickly that Duran aint Hatton, or Cotto.

Savage fight, but Duran wears Manny down and fucks him up BADLY down the stretch and stops him.

Well you seem to enjoy this childish back and forth....but as for me, I'd rather discuss boxing.

I happen to think that this is an intriguing matchup and not a "given" for Duran considering what Pacquiao brings to the table.

    Did you offer a pick?
