If Micky Ward-Arturo Gatti wasnt fight of the year in 02 then Dorin-Balbi was, or Victoriano Sosa-Lamar Murphy.

"Wiped Out by Paulie Malignaggi"???...U Make it Seem as if Juan Diaz has 2 EARLY ROUND KO LOSSES Or Something...Even NON-DESCRIPT Opposition has STRETCHED Dunne Out on the Canvas, in the Very 1st Round, Mr. Feebles...Bernard Dunne IS Not, WAS Not & WILL NEVER B Regarded as a Better Fighter than Juan Diaz...Compare Diaz's Resume to Dunne's or Cordoba's & there's NOfuckingCOMPARISON!...

Dunne WON this So-Called "Fight of the Year" that U're Noting, yet he's an INFERIOR Fighter to Juan Diaz, the LOSER of the "Fight of the Year" REED is Noting...Diaz-Marquez was a HIGHER CALIBER, HIGHER QUALITY Fight...

When you are dominated, twice (regardless of what some old, corrupt judges say) by the guy who was stopped by a SERIOUSLY diminished version of Ricky Hatton, you have very little right to call yourself world class.

Let's be brutally honest. Juan Diaz is 2-3 in his last five (and he should have been 1-4). His best wins are arguably against Michael Katsidis, which says a LOT, even coming from someone who is one of Katsidis' biggest fans, and old man Freitas, who was so shot he RETIRED after Diaz beat him.

Let's not be blowing smoke up Juan Diaz's ass here. He did very well for himself, considering his lack of real punching power and his one-dimensional, pressure style, but he was/is as LIMITED a unified champion as you could ever likely meet, Mister REED, and his form has suffered markedly as he stepped up in class and lost his unbeaten streak.

Sure, JMM is levels above Cordoba and Dunne, but Diaz isn't.

Of course, when trying to decide 'the best' fight of the year, it is worth considering the level at which a fight is taking place. I would agree that a good fight at elite level scores more highly than a good fight at club level. But Dunne-Cordoba is, AT WORST, one level below JMM-Diaz. It was a 'world' title fight, not some undercard, pre-main event card filler.

And it was much, much more entertaining than JMM-Diaz, which I agree was a very good fight, but it was nowhere near as good to watch as Dunne-Cordoba IMHO.

This was a 'world' title fight fought in a phone booth with SIX knockdowns, two huge momentum swings and a come-from-behind winner. Yet it isn't fight of the year because, well, hardly anyone in the US saw it...

    MTF :shit:

The guy who wiped Dunne out was a decent fighter. Kiko Martinez was the European champ at one point and has lost twice to Rendall Munroe, who is now on the verge of fighting for a 'world' bauble. You made him sound like a scrub, Mister REED.

For those who haven't seen it, try actually WATCHING Dunne-Cordoba, instead of presuming it's crap because it wasn't shown in the US...

Cordoba would land 4 to Bernards 2.

Have a guess whose punches get mentioned.

Awwww. Are we still angry about Holyfield kicking Tyson's ass?

That being said, it's definitely a poor choice for FOTY since it was too one-sided.

dunne was, is and always has been a mediocre talent and i thought his win over cordoba was a HUGE upset.

cordoba arguably is better than anyone that diaz ever beat, but that's not to say that diaz is an inferior or less accomplished guy, which is obviously not true.

in any case, i thought dunne vs. cordoba was a fantastic fight.

Yes it was a great fight and Dunne did well to win....but both fighters were full of flaws. I mean, basically, one average right-hand started the first knockdown Bernard suffered. The offensive work was augmented by terrible chins and terrible defenses.

So you haven't seen the fight and want to talk shit? How fitting. Funny enough Parra was undefeated at the time and had a title. Maybe he was unknown to you, but not to me. Sakata later won the title and made a few defenses as well. I guess it's easier to be ignorant though.

So Minto-Maddalone was for a title? Are you saying Cordoba and Dunne are on the level as those 2? Funny enough Cordoba actually has a win over Celestino Caballero who is arguably better than any of Diaz's wins.

i'm not really interested in the flyweight/jr.fly/straw divisions anymore, but man, eagle kyowa-rodel mayol was one of the best fights i've seen in the last 10 years or so.

yea the only guy who's fun to watch is Roman Gonzalez. not sure if you've seen his fight vs. niida, but he fucked him up pretty good. i think he's a real threat to calderon at jr. fly.

Bernard retired there a week ago, citing brain damage, financial problems and a lack of opponents to test him. Vis a vis the last reason, see the first reason.

And Caballero KTFO Somsak in Thailand, stopped Parra in Venezuela, and brutalized Molitor and Unified in Canada. He is also feared by one JuanMa Lopez. Caballero should be high on p4p lists.

He's better than the Freitas that Diaz fought. Freitas already had 1 foot out the door and was done.
