One of my guys had an amateur match down in Tampa last night (Feb. 20th) and Hector Camacho was there. He looked good. He worked the room all night and people still treated him like a celeb. I've watched him since I was a kid, and I'm 38 now! I've always respected him, as a fellow New Yorker and a damn good and underrated fighter. By the way, my guy won via 2nd round stoppage.
Always hated his guts. The near-autopsy performed on him by Julio Cesar Chavez is one of my favorite moments in boxing history
One of the best destructions of a great fighter ever. But C-dogg you have to give one thing to Camacho he showed his heart and toughness in that fight, I don't kno too many people who could have takin a beating like that from JCC.
not sure how camacho senior would be considered 'underrated'. w/ the amount of talent he had pre-rosario, he underachieved for sure. financially though, he made some wise decisions taking on old ass duran and leonard which somehow got him a title shot and major payday vs. oscar.
It is one of the few somewhat gutsy displays of his career, I'll admit I almost like it better that he didnt get knocked out. It was more fun to see him get HURT a lot
he had a great chin, but also had great survival tactics, which turned him into a boring ass fighter. chavez was smart to punish him to the body. neither guy was in his prime anyhow. chavez himself was slower than he was once he moved up to 140 and wasn't quite the same after the war vs. taylor.
Well not entirely true, I think Camacho gets a bad rap for how much he actually "ran away' in his fights he was on his bike a lot but I wouldn't necessarily say he ran away from his opponents. He did so in some but not all of his fights. Its funny how I am a fan of brawlers and head first fighters but seem to be a huge fan of Camacho... well I can't stand his bitch ass son...but...
i won't admit anything, he is my hero!:::: Well he did do enough to win the rounds against them so he didn't run all the time, but yes I do agree he did run once he got tagged hard enough, but he also slipped and countered. But I know what you are gettin at cdogg.:bears:
out of camacho, pazienza, jimmy thunder, and holmes who frequently headlined USA's tuesday night fights, camacho was the least watchable.
