Seems like a pretty even match up. Both were about the same size, both rank among the big hitters in Heavyweight history, both lost convincingly to their elite opponents, but were able to beat or be competitive with the best of the rest. Baer was a champ and Williams wasn't, but fighting Primo Carnera wasn't quite the same as fighting Ali. How do you see it?
I have seen about three fights from both so my pick is not on the most solid ground but I would go with Baer. Williams had an ability to throw his shots very relaxed and very hard and he was the better two-handed puncher. However Baer's right cross would be enough to hurt Big Cat too. Williams has the edge as a puncher but I think Baer's advantages in speed and stamina would enable him to turn a close, tough fight in his favor
Good thing you're not into back and forth pissing contests and prefer to discuss boxing. Whoops! Guess not, huh? As for your response, I'll put you down for..."don't know anything before 1995 so I can't respond properly but I can't pass up the chance to be a hypocrite"
Did that just for fun. I like seeing your angry reactions every now and then. opcorn: That's a tough fight to pick. Two different eras of fighters. I'd go with Baer...but almost only by gut.
I'm not remotely angry, but it is fun to watch you flip - flop whenever it suits you. And then claim "i was only joking". Now let's see how much you don't like the back and forth stuff.
You're trying to get into another pissing match...I shall not oblidge you, sorry. Go argue with yourself on some meaningless drivel. I gave you a pick on the fight...why didn't you address that?
Baer beat the living dogshit out of Max Schmeling, something that people often overlook. That is a more significant win than any in Cleveland Williams career by a long shot. Baer could take a shot better than Williams... I see this as a fun shootout between two big bangers with Baer winning by KO in 4 or 5, getting up off the deck to do so
I was just going to say Baer's win against Schmeling is both undr-appreciated & a better scalp than anything on Williams' resume. A good straight right beats a goof left hook to the target everytime. Baer hit harder & had the better chin. Give me a KO in his favour, around the fifth.
