Too late IMO. Cotto needed a trainer in his development as a boxer. He's on the brink of retirement already.
That was my gut reaction as well. However let's not completely write off Cotto yet. His two losses came against a guy who was very likely wearing loaded wraps and another against one of the best P4P fighters of his era. He was very competitive in both fights. He's probably well beyond attaining all the great status, but he could still put together another strong run. Cotto's a very good all around boxer and a new trainer might help out more than we think.
I don't think Cotto is shot or anything. by "the brink of retirement" I meant that he wants to fight 2 more times and then retire. He won't accomplish much in that span.
While McGuirt is GOOD @ Making Guys more CONCIOUS of Defense, it's Usually @ the EXPENSE of their Offense... REED:hammert:
I think that is good news. Any REAL trainer is better than his buddy nutrionist who couldn't give him any solid advice on his last two bouts. And Cotto doesn't want to be embarrassed against a C-level boxer like Yuri Foreman while trying to capture a third title.
I still can't believe Cotto hired that little faggot from his team for the biggest fight of his life. :: That kid was even scared to speak up let alone command a corner and do what needs to be done.
