Liddell's MORE Shot than a Firing Squad Victim, yet Not Only is he a TUF Coach, he's Also HEADLINING a UFC PPV???... REED:shit:
I don't think Liddell or Franklin should be PPV headliners anymore, but they're the perfect kind of fighter to be a TUF coach. I hate when they hold up a title or a megafight by making them TUF coaches, causing the fight or title defense to be delayed for months as the show tapes, then as it airs. TFK
Ok, looks like the fight is still on.... http://www.mmamania.com/2010/3/13/1371720/dana-white-randy-couture-not-chuck TFK
U're Obviously UNeducated to the FINER POINTS of MMA, Joe...Chuck Liddell has LOST 4 of his Last 5 Bouts, 3 of them by 1st Round KO...Tito Ortiz Literally HASN'T Won a Fight in about 3 1/2 Years... That's PRECISELY the Type of Bout that Should HEADLINE an MMA PPV, to Show Boxing People how to REALLY Run their Sport... U Just Don't GET It, Apparently...Fuck that Re-Tread, Mayweather-Mosley BULLSHIT, it's ALL about Watching a SHOT Chuck Liddell Fight a Guy he's ALREADY Waxed TWICE... REEDopcorn:
The best thing that could ever happen to MMA, is these types of PPV's get mad and they have record low buys. With Strikeforce putting on good shows, these two reasons will force Dana to stack PPV cards as he used to.
Main events like Liddell vs. Ortiz are totally ridiculous and only hurt the UFC. Dana needs to stop putting on so many goddamn shows. If he cuts the number of shows that he has in half, he can load the fuck out of each card and there will be no complaints. Dana is now trying to take on the world and this will only hurt him. He needs to take it back to the old school.
All I know is I guarantee the Ortiz-Liddell 3 fight will be far more entertaining than Pac-Clottey. And I would go further and say that the supporting bouts will absolutely BLOW the Pac-Clottey card away. The fight has no significance because both guys are shot and likely not among the top 10 Lightheavies in the UFC. Furthermore Chuck is 2-0 against Tito, but if the first two fights are any indicator, it will be a entertaining war with both guys going for broke. Read that last part Mr. Clottey.
That's the thing. All of the PPV's have good fights on them, but there's not enough 'Main Event' talent yet for as many PPV's as they are putting out. The way UFC 115 is now, if they put a solid main event on it, it would be a great card. But with Liddell\Tito or Randy\Franklin as the main event, it just isn't as strong. I'm sure both fights will be entertaining and fun to watch, but they don't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. But even without a legit main event, it's hard not to like this card... Chuck\Tito Randy\Franklin Wanderlei\Akiyama Rothwell\Yvel Cro-Cop\Barry T. Griffin\Dunham Kampmann\Thiago TFK
agREED... But Here's the Thing, JUST LIKE It Did in Boxing, gREED is Beginning to Run the Thought Process of the MMA Decision Makers, ie., Dana White (& REED WON'T Even Get Into the Whole WEC PPV FARCE)....Liddell vs. Ortiz is Basically a CIRCUS Fight @ this Point, akin to Kimbo vs. James Toney, or Some Shit like that...A CLEAR CASE of Dana White MILKING the Name Recognition of the Combatants...No MORE, No LESS.... AND he's Giving the Shit MAIN EVENT Status... Sure, Boxing Started Doing this Looooooooooooong AGO, but it Certainly DOESN'T Bod Well for the FUTURE of MMA if Fights like this R ALREADY Taking Place, just when PSUEDO Boxing Fans R Treating MMA like a Safe Haven... w/Out Question, MMA's Popularity is GROWING...REED's NEVER Denied it OR had a Problem w/It...But w/that, Just like U Said, Tooooooooo MANY MMA PPV's R Now Taking Place... REED:hammert:
& REED Guarantees there'll B about 1/10th the Level of SKILL Exhibited N Ortiz-Liddell, Compared to What Manny Pac Displayed Against Clottey Last Night...U Want Blood, Guts & GUARANTEED "Action Fights"???...Go to the Neares Watering Hole about 30 Minutes B 4 Last Call... REED would Rather Watch a WORLD CLASS, ELITE LEVEL Fighter, @ or Near HIS PRIME than Liddell vs. Ortiz III- The Final (& UNWANTED) Chapter.... REED:hammert:
And I am right there with you Reed. I would much rather watch Whitaker-Chavez to see the shear skill on display. But, and this a BIG Jennifer Lopez type BUT, I also need to see both guys fighting like it's a must win for them. That's what was missing from Pac-Clottey. Clottey was happy to not get KO'd or completely beaten up. Manny is amazing. He is clearly among the Top 20 fighter of all time in my opinion. But I can only be so thrilled about paying 50 bucks to watch him essentially hit the heavy bag. Tito and Chuck are done being important in the MMA LHW landscape. But you know as well as I do that neither guy is going to lose easily. They won't be worried about getting cut or stunned or embarrassed. They will try until they're finished to WIN THE FIGHT. That last part may not be important to you if watching Manny's skill level is enough, but for me it is. Also, don't compare Chuck-Tito to a bar fight. While neither guy is elite any longer, they are the two most decorated UFC LH Champions in the history of the organization. Their reflexes are slower, their chins aren't as solid, but these guys know what they're doing.
This is why America fell in love with Arturo Gatti. I think all of us on Fightbeat know Gatti was the most skilled boxer by any means, but he opened up his heart in the ring and was going to give all he had or go out on his shield. It is inspiring. He may not have a perfect record when the career comes to a close, but he sure did win over millions of fans.
Yeah, I brought up the popularity of Gatti-Ward previously. Most boxing fans place it among the most exciting fights in history yet neither guy had 1/8 the talent of Floyd Mayweather. I get that Gatti-Ward type of excitement far more often with MMA now than with boxing.
I agree, I fell in love with boxing as a kid watching Duran. Anothere huge favorite of mine was Mugabi. Mugabi was dominated by Hagler, but he gave everything he had to win that fight. There wasn't the "safety first" approach that you see so often today.
REED is Aware of their HISTORICAL Impact & what Liddell & Ortiz USED to B, but Please DON'T Tell REED that this is Gonna B a SKILLFUL Display, Because it WON'T B...Liddell's Gonna Try to Keep the Fight STANDING Because he Knows Ortiz CAN'T Take his Power... It'll B about as "Skillful" as Liddell vs. Wanderlai Silva was...EXCITING, Sure, but NOT "Skillful"... It's Funny to REED how WHENEVER a Guy Gives a Half Assed Performance in Boxing, it's ALWAYS Held Against the Sport ITSELF...Like Now, U're Basically BLAMING BOXING Because Joshua Clottey Refused to Come Out from Behind his Shell & Try to WIN the Fight w/Pac... Yet, when Anderson Silva Half Assed His Way to 2 Consecutive Wins, NOBODY Blamed the Entire Sport of MMA, Did They???...Please DON'T Sit Here & Act like EVERY MMA Fight is SCINTILLATING, Because they AREN'T...Just as Every Boxing Match ISN'T Boring...Hell, Over the Last Month "Friday Night Fights" had about 3 Different Cards that were Fairly Exciting...But Since those Cards were Littered w/Prospects & No-Namers, NOBODY Watched... REED:hammert:
Well, again, please remember I am talking 100% about entertainment value. And the Silva-Leites fight was an absolutely sleep inducer. But I also remember the war between Sam Stout and Matt Wiman on that card as well as Rua's destruction of Liddell. And Quarry beating up Jason McDonald with vicious elbows. And the Polish dude from TUF submitting hard-hitting former WEC'er Brian Stann. That may have been the worst UFC Main Event I've ever seen, but I would rather have paid for that card than the one I just watched this past Saturday night. Serious question Reed, on the whole, would you agree that UFC PPV's are more entertaining RIGHT NOW than the typical boxing PPV?
RIGHT NOW, Undeniably...But is that Enough for REED to TAP OUT on the Sport of Boxing Entirely???...Of Course Not...Moreso, just Because Boxing PPV's CURRENTLY have Less than Stellar Undercards DOESN'T Mean Boxing PPV's will ALWAYS have Less than Stellar Undercards... REED:hammert:
As much as we all love to hate him, King used to have great undercards, with Ricardo Lopez, Michael Carbajal, even Felix Trinidad as he was coming up. Top Rank and G don't give us shit for undercards.
The Pacquiao/Clottey undercard was garbage even though on paper it looked passable in comparison to other cards. Soto fought too conservatively. I was hoping he'd add some spark to the card. Boxing needs to follow the lead of the UFC in regards to fight bonuses for KOs or Fight of the night, etc.
Man, you're getting on nerves with that stuff. I still follow boxing closely and love the sport. Hell, I even paid 50 to watch Manny this past weekend. And I hope you're right. I hope boxing fans become a little more stingy with their PPV $$$ and make promoters put a better product on the shelf. That's all I'm asking and it's my main complaint. You know Reed, you need to remember, I grew up watching some of the best fights in boxing history on network TV during the 70's and 80's. Chacon, Lopez, Curry, Duran, Spinks, Hearns, Cooney, McCallum, etc. were all available on Saturday or Sunday afternoons for free. Being spoiled has a lot to do with my current attitude toward boxing.
