Can't wait to see this guy this guy again this weekend. If he can beat Vera convincingly, it will say a lot. I think Bones is a very dynamic fighter with a LOT of promise. I just hope that he tones down a little on the risky strikes and he should go far. He reminds me a lot of how Faber fights, very aggressive, unorthodox striking, very athletic, and brutal ground and pound. A big win here puts him right up there with the big boys.

I know you were looking for an up and coming brother to pull for, Reed. I think this guy is definately it. And he is only 22!

REED, you should start a Bones Jones "The original MMA Brother Bandwagon"! Count me in:kidcool:

I know I was laughed at with this, but I really think Jones is going to eat Vera alive. His style alone will manhandle Vera.

This guy is very impressive. I hope he continues to dominate. Vera should be a good test.

I think that Bones is the future of the division. As far as Vera goes, it should be a great matchup. Vera may have the edge in stand up, but Bones has lots of other variaables that can win him the fight like athleticism, youth, unorthodox striking, sick ass Judo throws, etc.

It will be fun. Also cant wait to see Dos Santos vs Gonzaga too, as Dos Santos is definately one of my fav HW's to watch.

And as simple as they are, Kongo and Buentello are straight up brawlers. This, "as long as it stays standing, as it should" should qualify as a "fun" fight.

Vera has always been overated. What are his best wins? Whitehead? My boy Justin Eilers (RIP)? His win over a half crippled Mir? If Mir and Vera were to have a rematch, do you think Vera has any chance of winning? Me either.

Jones should beat Vera easily, as long as he doesn't gas. For as talented as Jones is, his cardio is a HUGE question mark. He was visibly gassed against Bonnar. If he gasses late against Vera and his hands start hanging down, Vera can easily end the fight with a head kick. But I think Jones will survive and win a clear unanimous 29-28 decision, with Vera only winning the final round.

Thank God DirecTV and Versus straightened their shit out, because this is a loaded card...

    Main Bouts (On Versus):
-Jon Jones (9-1; #10 Light Heavyweight) vs. Brandon Vera (11-4)
-Junior Dos Santos (10-1; #6 Heavyweight) vs. Gabriel Gonzaga (11-4)
-Cheick Kongo (14-6-1) vs. Paul Buentello (27-11)
-James Irvin (14-5) vs. Alessio Sakara (14-7)

    Preliminary Bouts (Non-Televised):
-Clay Guida (25-11) vs. Shannon Gugerty (12-4)
-Eliot Marshall (8-1) vs. Vladimir Matyushenko (23-4)
-Duane Ludwig (19-10) vs. Darren Elkins (9-1)
-John Howard (13-4) vs. Daniel Roberts (9-0)
-Brendan Schaub (4-1) vs. Chase Gormley (6-1)
-Mike Pierce (10-3) vs. Julio Paulino (17-2)
-Jason Brilz (17-2-1) vs. Eric Schafer (11-4-2)

You can see that Guida's stock is begining to drop as he is now on the undercard of non PPV card. I think he's one of those fighters that, because of his style, will always have a job in the UFC, but if he loses, we may not be seeing much of him other than on 'earlier in the night' replays to fill time.

It's Awfully CONVENIENT to Lable Mir "Half Crippled" when Vera Beat him, Don't U Think???...U JUST AS EASILY Could Say that Vera DESTROYED a Guy that Went on to BEAT Brock Lesnar a Few Fights Later, if U were So Compelled...Would Vera BEAT Mir Now???...They're in DIFFERENT Weight Classes, so Who Knows???....

What we DO Know is that Vera Beat THElivingSHIT Out of Frank Mir, the 1 Time they Shared a Cage Together...The Rest is SPECULATION @ Best...

I think, regardless of whether Mir would or wouldn't beat Vera now, that Brandon is still a great barometer of where Jones is right now.

To date no one has really handled Vera at 205 pounds. In fact only Werdum has stopped him and that was at HW and controversial. If Jones runs through Vera like he did with Hamill, it will be huge.

Personally I think it's going to be a war. Vera is rangy enough to really make Jones work for things.

The scary thing is how easily Jones takes people down. Seriously, he put Bonner and Hamill on their backs unlike anyone has.

    Should be a nice scrap.

    agREED...

NOBODY is Ready to Climb to the Mountain Top & Proclaim "This is the Bones Jones Era", as Rogan Did after Machida WAXED Rashad Evans, but Brandon Vera is CLEARLY a LEGITIMATE Litmus Test for Jones...

Like REED Said, if Jones HANDLES Vera as he Did Bonnar & Hamill, that's VERY Meaningful...

Sorry Hanz, but REED SAW that Fight...While Jones Didn't FINISH as Strongly as he Started, Suggesting he "Had his Hands Full w/Bonnar" is OFFBASE...Jones EMBARRASSED Bonnar for MUCH of that Fight...N Fact, Bonnar had DEFEATIST Body Language @ the End of the Fight...

    Bonnar KNEW he had LOST...

It's common knowledge that Mir came back from his injuries way too early, and his performances against Vera, Cruz and Christionson proved that. There's no speculation at all.

Vera beats Mir any time in history, I don't believe a fight with Mir would be any different now. Vera's striking is far superior to Mir's.

I'm going against the grain here, I saw Mr Bones Jones gas out against Bonnar. The same Bonnar that was just whooped by friggin Mark Coleman!

Vera is going to surprise you all and knock Bones out!

I think Vera is a definite top 20 lightheavy in the world. He is a top 10 LH in the UFC. A win over Vera puts Jones right in the mix. I would love to see him fight Randy if he gets a win over Vera. I would bet he blows Randy out in the first round.

I think it was Trplsec who had the analogy to Faber. That is a good one. Jones' achilles heel maybe his willingness to take risks in striking as does Faber. The part that I see with Jones that I don't see with Faber is he doesn't seem to have the ego. What I mean by that is Faber thinks he can beat anyone at any style. Jones knows and understands his strengths and I will bet you he knows the only place Vera can possibly win this fight is in the standup. Jones TKO via GNP viciously. 2nd round. Some guys throw elbows to look busy to the ref, Jones throws elbows to end the fight.

Personally, I think right now, Mir destroys Vera. But its completely different now. Mir has put on so much muscle mass its almost silly to think of the two fighting now. Mir walks around at 240-250 now. REED is right on the fact that it is all speculation at this point.

Z, you always go against the grain:lol:

The fact that Mir was coming back too soon from a major injury, and that his game suffered big time for it. It's common knowledge among MMA fans. If you look at Mir's fights before the accident, and his fights since he took the time to heal properly, it's clear that he is a completely different fighter than he was when he fought Vera, Christianson and Cruz.

If there was to be a rematch with Vera, or Cruz or Christianson for that matter, they have no chance in hell of beating Mir.

REED Doesn't have HDNet or Anything, but TYPICALLY he Likes to Base his MMA (& Boxing) Opinions Off of What ACTUALLY Took Place...On that Note, Vera MANHANDLED Mir...Based on the Accident, SURE, U Could Say Mir would Fare BETTER in a RE, but to ASSume Vera has "No Chance in Hell of Beating Mir" is SILLY, Based on the FACT that we've ALREADY SEEN Vera Beat The Hell Out of Mir....

What you fail to understand is the Frank Mir that fought Vera is not the same Frank Mir that is fighting now, or fought before the accident. When Mir came back, he came back too early and was a shell of himself. He couldn't train properly and it showed in his first few fights back.

Do I really? I hadn't really noticed, I just go with who I think will win. I'm not trying to be different or anything. I'm definitely not one of the types that makes crazy predictions hoping that by some miracle it happens and I look smart.

Although I did do that one time, and the miracle did happen. I picked Sanders over Wlad by KO. I may have been the only guy to pick Sanders on earth.

By the way, gassing against Bonnar ain't a crime in my book. Bonnar brings it.

But that being said, Jones handled Bonnar far easier than anyone else has in my opinion.

And the same was true with Matt Hammil. Jones walked right through Matt Hammil. Even Franklin didn't handle Matt the way Jones did. Hell, everyone talks about Hammil's wrestling and Jones slammed his ass down so hard that he dislocated shit.

Jones is the real deal. Vera better bring his A+ game and actually show some aggression or Jones will give him the rag doll treatment.

I like Sakara, I just never understand why Irvin is on main cards. Nothing special.
