Time to step up and make your picks. Who wins and why? Carwin with his heavy hands and wrestling background hasn't allowed an opponent out of the first round. The guys chin and gut were checked by Gonzaga and Carwin knocked him the fuck out seconds later. Mir is bigger, stronger than ever and probably at his very best. He can be technically brilliant standing and his BJJ might be second to none at HW. He can make an experienced fighter look stupid. What happens?
I think Mir tries to take him down and it doesn't work. Eventually Carwin lands a bomb and maybe drops Mir a few times, but he doesn't want to commit to a ground attack for fear of Mir's BJJ. Carwin gets the stoppage eventually.
i dunno. i think mir gives up mentally most of the time where he finds himself in hot water. i think carwin is an unknown quantity? i have no idea who wins.
how so? He's had some incredible submission wins in his UFC career. I'm just asking so don't freak the fuck out. :kick:
Submission wins doesnt equal good BJJ. look at his fights, he doesnt manuver well on the ground. He also panics at times and covers up instead of look for opportunities.
Mir is falling inlove again with his hands so maybe that would spell trouble for him. But to be fair carwin isnt exactly great with his boxing, yeah his got power but his actual striking game is not that Good.
I see the fight looking similiar to the second Lesnar fight. I just think Carwin will take him down and smother him and pound out a GNP win. TFK
I agree, Mir has subbed alot of UFC HW's because most HW's have no ground skill. For a black belt, he has horrible transitions. If anyone remembers, in the TUF series where he was a coach, he was asking BJJ questions of the kid that was the stud from Brazil. Vinny Malgales(sp) or something like that. He also stated that he had very "bread and butter" BJJ, unlike Vinny's who was very refined. Thats where the big arguement between Vinny and Nog came from, because Vinny told Mir that Nog's BJJ was very basic as well. IMO, Mir is probably more along the lines of a Brown Belt at best in BJJ. With all that said. I see this unfolding the same as TFK. Carwin takes him down, smothers him, and GNP's a tko victory.
that carwin gets an interim title shot is a joke. His resume his shallow at best. I expect Mir to handle him pretty easily
That there's even an 'interim' title fight is the joke. Lesnar is due back in the summer. The winner can fight him then. Hell, the 'interim' title is even more lame since White said the winner of this fight isn't guaranteed anything and Velasquez might get the first shot at the title. TFK
Apparently, REED is 1 of the FEW that Actually DIGS Frank Mir's Personality...REED's Always Been the Type that Can Stomach a So-Called "Arrogant" Fighter MUCH EASIER than he Can a So-Called "Humble" Fighter... To B an ELITE Level Fighter, U HAVE to B ARROGANT to Some Degree...Not OUTWARDLY, Necessarily, but it HAS to B There...Personally, REED Finds OUTWARD Arrogance More GENUINE than that Subtle Shit...& that Ties into WHY REED Likes Mir... He's Also REED's Absolute FAVORITE MMA Commentator Too, Which Plays a Part in why REED Likes him... REED Admittedly DOESN'T Know Much about Carwin, but REED's Hoping Mir Beats the Shit Out of him... REED:hammert:
What is even more messed up, is that they don't have any sanctioning bodies to fuck it up for them. They are doing it on their own. Unless they really believe an "interim championship belt" is going to sell 50,000 extra pay per views. I doubt that it even sells 5 more pay per views.
Mir winning does nothing for the sport. He just gets beat by brock again. Carwin winning makes things very interesting.
considering they're 1-1, i wouldnt hold my breath on that conclusion. brock hasn't fought in a while and is coming off some life-threatening illness. who knows if he'll be the same guy once he step in the ring. i'm not a fan of mir, but he should be the favorite going in against carwin. hopefully, carwin will somehow land his hail mary punch and end the show. mir is a dick.
I don´t know. Mir must be very distracted by the humiliating losses his boyfriend Torres has suffered lately.
NOt at all. He should go for it and fight. Im just saying i hope he loses, because he will just get beat by brock again
That was before Mir realized he had to bulk up to stay in the race with Lesnar. Frank is now cutting down to 265 and is solid. While he will never match the pure wrestling-born strength of Carwin and Lesnar, adding the solid bulk should help him from just getting tossed around and easily controlled. Naturally the additional size will also add punching power and theoretically his ability to take a punch. We shall see.
