After tonight, Dirrell and Funeka come to mind. I guess I should add some of the criteria or being "unlucky": 1:robbed by judges 2:robbed by boxing promoters 3ostponements due to injury/other fighter's weight issue, etc. 4assed over for title shots 5:add your own
dirrell officially got his W and he was beating abraham up until the stoppage. i agree about funeka though. i thought guzman won, but evidently due to the fact that he didnt make weight. i think el terrible pointed out during the fight that guzman would've been seriously hurt during those exchanges had he actually made weight. funeka should retain his #1 ranking by the IBF. at the very least, he should make $ that he should for a world title fight. that may be significantly less than what he could make as a defending champ in s. africa, but at least he's continuously getting american tv exposure. plus, he has rolando reyes as the mandatory opponent and i think that's a very winnable fight for funeka. should that go to purse bid, i'm sure it's most likely to end up in s. africa where funeka would hold the edge in home court advantage
Dirrell has a case of being robbed against Froch as well. Funeka was jobbed against Guzman the last time out and against Nate Campbell too.
Dirrell - Froch was very close and could have gone either way, I thought Dirrell might have nicked it but to be honest it was his own fault, he could have won that fight clearly and left no room for any doubt.
Dirrel's a fucking bitch who deserves every piece of bad luck coming to him in the squared circle. Last night's quit job was a hideous, cynical act.
In the slo-mo replay you can see the delay in the reaction, the cogs turning and the cynical theatrics which follow. A guy discombobulated by a hard head shot doesn't hold his head like that. Thats what kids do when they get hit with a penny sweet on the head, notice a teachers or parents watching and want to sell it. I think the ref made the right decision but Dirrel angled for that finish there. It's a very cynical, dishonourable way to get a W, in Hut's book.
agREED... INITIALLY, Dirrell had a "I Can't Believe this Dude just HIT Me while I Was Down" SMIRK on his Face....THEN he Whipped Out the Theatrics...Motherfucker Impersonated a DEAD MAN as the Ref Checked On him then MIRACULOUSLY, Dirrell was FINE 1nce he was ASSured that the Fight was Over:shit:... Sure, Abraham was RIGHTFULLY DQ'ed but the Fact is, Dirrell's Stock Continues to DIMINISH...The Super 6 was Supposed to BOLSTER the Career's of the Combatants, but in Dirrell's Case, his Last 2 Fights have HURT His Career... REED:mj:
I couldn't agree more....the irony of it is that Abraham gets to go back to Germany with some reputation intact...."I was coming on strong" {which he was} "I woulda got to him in the last round" {which is less likely} but he can always say that he could take Dirrells but Dirrell couldn't take his, blah blah blah. Dirrell on the other hand wins, but he loses. He loses because he did what American "scribes" have saying for years was a solely German/European preserve: he totally milked the home advantage and then plainly quit when things got a bit shady. His people tried to stack the deck, the referee was an American, and "missed" Abrahams knockdowns, etc. When Monte Barrett hit Haye when Haye was down {a legit KD} the Brit ref took a point off Barrett and the fight went on. Haye didn't play dead, his attitude was he was winning anyways, and he duly finished the job. And I dont even like Haye. Dirrell figured "fuck it, I can end this right here". And he did. On his back. Misrepresenting the extent of his injury to the crowd, the doctor, the referee and basically getting himself out of a moderately sticky situation.:shit::shit: It's most likely the case that Dirrell would have slid and run out the final two rounds and picked up a unanimous decision. But something about the guy just didn't want to finish out the last 2 rounds....he pulled a Camacho Jr and thats what it boils down to. I dont want to knock Dirrell....he did what anyone of his physical attributes should have done but when push came to shove, and he found himself facing a hard 5 minutes towards the end, he took the easy way out. I doubt Abraham would have found the killer shot but Dirrell sure wasn't interested in throwing any light on that one.
Funeka has TERRIBLE luck! His ultimate downfall in the ring though is his chin. Its mediocre at best. He still has hopes of winning a belt at 135 though, since 135 is pretty weak. The bitch beater Valero would brutally KO Funeka though.
Please.... Glen Johnson is a LUCKY fighter. Had he been faced with a younger Jones, he'd just be considered another "bum" that Roy beat up.
Carr just wasnt very good IMO. I dont see him being champ in ANY welter era. Well, maybe he woulda beaten the fraud Berto.
He Lost to Dela, Tito AND Quartey & was COMPETITIVE w/ALL of them...Is it a GIVEN that Miguel Cotto OR Antonio Margarito BEATS Oba Carr???.... REED:dunno:
Milton McCrory??....Marlon Starling???...Lloyd Honeghan???...w/Out Analyzing the Matter, REED Thinks it's SAFE to Say that Oba Carr WOULD have Won a World Title @ SOME Point, Fighting in Some Other Era... REED:mj:
Cotto beats him. Even an old Shane is better then ANY version of Carr, and a prime Cotto managed to beat Shane. Marg? Depends on whether or not he's caught using his wraps.
yes. carr was competitive w/ oscar, but i didn't think he was really in the fight against either tito and quartey. he knocked down tito, but got punished shortly after. against quartey, he was simply outworked, outhustled but was rewarded by a judge who didn't know how to score. i think both cotto and margarito (w/ or without plaster) would've smashed carr in the later rounds.
Carr DAMN SURE was not as good as Marlon Starling, and he wasnt as good as the Honeyghan that beat Curry either. Simon Brown woulda knocked him out in that era as well.
The Honeyghan that Beat Curry was an ABERRATION, Much like the Buster Douglas that Beat Tyson...OVERALL, Oba Carr was a Slightly BETTER Fighter than Lloyd Honeyghan, N REED's Opinion... REED:hammert:
